Neytiri would rather die fighting and have her children die fighting along with the rest of the displaced Omaticaya than to be a coward. Jake is better acquainted with being theatherless, he was so disconnected on Earth that he could not even shed a tear for his murdered brother. Now that he has a core family and an identity he's proud of he will not just throw that away nor will he risk the Omaticaya clan by staying.
