Well I watched all the episodes. And when I seen Serena. Played by Pandora Spock's... I thought she sort of looked like Samantha. But then the internet. So I did a lot of research. And was surprised to find out Elizabeth Montgomery played both parts. I was in love with Samantha.
...and the Balmoral Castle. Interesting indeed. It actually snapped me out of TV Land and back into reality. I'm like wait a minute, this is the 60s and they're referencing something from today!
As I understand it, Elizabeth used her own look a like cousin Panda as the genesis for Serena. Her son William once said that Serena gave his mom the chance to "stretch" her talent a bit, to play a role opposite to that of Samantha. It worked to the max.
I like this episode when Serena had that black bird called Malcolm. Everytime I saw a crow chirping I said to that black bird: I'm sorry Malcolm, but I have no magic powers to undo the spell Serena put on you.
These scenes are what make Serena a scream! When she told Sam that she's going to find herself a mortal and marry IT. 😀 Update: Until just recently, Serena telling Sam that she's going to see Elizabeth and Phillip was valid. Now they're both gone. This episode was made over fifty years a go.
Elizabeth Montgomery grew up in a very wealthy family. Her father was very famous. She was a hard worker in her acting career. Serena looks just like Samantha. And the reason she played the part so fantastically of Serena being a high class snob so to speak was , she drew off of her childhood living a very rich life. Montgomery in person had a very teasing personality and had a real witty character about herself. She was truly amazing.
As a kid I loved Serena. I thought they were the same person at one point and looked at the credits and she had a different name. Very confused and grew up knowing all the characters in old movies by the credits and my parents pointing them out. This show did mess with my mind with the credits.
Serena, Esmerelda, Aunt Clara, Aunt Hagatha, Uncle Arthur, the wacky cousin (played by Steve Franken), Maurice, and of course Endora. Did I miss anyone?
I just watched the run recently. Serena's first appearance was odd. She just acted like Sam, not the goofball she became. Darrin thought some witch cast a spell to turn recently born Tabatha to an adult. At the time they must have thought that was all there was going to be of the Serena character. I don't remember exactly but Darrin and Sam didn't talk about this mysterious sister and she just kind of went away
@Karen Tyrell In the first episode she went to visit Samantha, after she had given birth to Tabatha. And she did sound exactly like Samantha. She gave Serena her own personality as time passes though.😏
Everybody thought that Samantha was better suited with dick York as Darren Stephens! But Serena would have been better suited with dick Sargent as Darren Stevens!
I know Serena was Samantha's paternal cousin, but was she her father's sister's daughter or his brother's daughter. They never established that in the show.
A year before Bewitched aired, William Asher produced the Patty Duke Show and probably got the idea once bewitched aired. I love Serena, Uncle Arthur and Aunt Clara
I think Erin Murphy (Tabitha) is the only regular from the show's heyday who's still alive. Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay) was the last living adult regular, I think.
@Mkb Jon ... How ironic that Serena gave an honorable mention to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and all these years later, they're both still alive. How I wish it were so for Elizabeth Montgomery! Would love to see one last interview with her and her tv daughter Erin Murphy together. RIP Elizabeth 💔
@@AlmondJoie Samantha and Serena were both played by Elizabeth Montgomery. In the closing credits, it says Serena was played by "Pandora Spocks", which is a play on words ("Pandora's Box"), not the name of a real actress. Elizabeth Montgomery said she much preferred playing Serena, because it was more fun than playing goody-goody Samantha.
@@williamdonahue6617 Thank you for sharing that bit of Bewitched trivia. As an old school fan of the show, I was already well aware that Liz played both roles, and that "Pandora Spocks" was not a real person. Having said that, bc Liz played Serena so well, I think it would've been great if Serena could've had her own show after the departure of Dick York. Bewitched was never quite the same after he left IMHO.
I didn't know that the TV series, I Dream of Jeannie was a RIP OFF of the Bewitched TV series. When Jeannie's producers decided that she and her master, Major Nelson would get married, actor, Larry Hagman PROTESTED
@@josephclegg3562 I heard that actress, Elizabeth Montgomery actually resented the I Dream of Jeannie TV series because she just thought it was a rip-off of her show.
Serena, like Jeannie's sister, was very prone to creating impromptu go-go dance / discotheque settings - in contrast to their alter-ego counterparts who wanted to live like "normal" people.
Need a part two to cover seasons 6 - 8. Serena was in rare form in those seasons, too. What she did to Larry by giving him her "vitamin pills" is a hoot. What she did to Boyce & Hart forced Sam to get involved to get her cousin to reverse her spell, with a strong warning behind it. Love it. Oh, at the start where Serena flips into Sam comes from the seveth season episode SAMANTHA AND THE TROLL.
Serena had style, elegant but sexy; fur pieces suited her greatly, that's partially why I love her more than Samantha, it's ultimately her laid back, cheerful personality that make me want to choose her over Samantha...
It took me quite awhile for me to realize that Sam snd Serena were both played by Elizabeth Montgomery. I thought that Pandora Sparks was a real person.
haha... in a weird way I'm grateful for Serena and Samantha because they make me think of both Sabrinas in Chilling Adventures... they help me to imagine how both Sabrinas would be living their lives differently in an alternate reality.
