She has such a beautiful voice! I Really want to know what's this "strike" musical about. I've only seen "next to normal" (on march 13) and it was awesome!
Wonder when this is coming out, and if they have not shot it yet, wonder when Sam will be available to shoot it given she is doing Pretty Woman the musical now?
I've deleted previous comments of mine about this song re the movie Stand! and am providing an update in a single comment. This song is performed by Marshall Williams and Laura Slade Wiggins in the film and their performance is available on the sountrack store.cdbaby.com/cd/standmoviemusicalsoundtra Comparing the two is a very interesting listening test. The backing track is identical. I can't tell the difference on the notes sung and the timing. You really have to listen to the timbre of the voices to catch the difference. People wanted to know, are Samantha Barks and Marc Devigne in the film? Technically no, but I feel like their performance of this song is there in spirit as it seems it was either 1) a model for Wiggens and Williams to closely follow and/or 2) both set of performers stayed close to the score and the composer Danny Schur must have been convinced by the Bark and Devigne performance that the song was perfect and needed no further changing It took the soundtrack release and seeing the film a second time to convince myself I wasn't hearing Barks and Devigne! In select theatres in some cities in Canada until December 12, 2019. Some kind of distribution deal for USA and Japan upcoming, keep your eyes on Stand!'s social media accounts.
Hi Mark. It's Danny Schur. Your analysis is spot on; not much changed between the version in the video and the version in the movie, sung by Marshall Williams and Laura Slade Wiggins. The one wee difference is the addition of strings starting in the second verse, in the movie version. To be sure, while many of the arrangements and lyrics from the stage musical "Strike!" - which became the movie "Stand!" - were altered for the film, "Love in a Place Like This" has remained unaltered since day one. The scene has always been about the same thing - the Romeo & Juliet tug of war at the centre of the interfaith relationship - and it's still the same in the movie. Weird story: when I was mixing the movie version, I had all four vocal tracks in the same timeline - Mark, Marshall, Sam & Laura. None of the vocalists studied their counterpart's performance. But after, I listened and thought, "Wow. It's amazing how similar they sound."
The name of this movie changed, and i am pretty certain Sam is no longer involved with the movie. I doubt she filmed this while she was preparing to or playing Vivian in Chicago or on Broadway in Pretty Woman.
For everyone who commented and viewed this video - thank you! The Strike! movie title morphed in "Stand!" once we went into production - due to the creation of a new title track "Stand". The movie became the #1 Canadian movie during its Canadian release in December, 2019. The film is now available on VOD in Canada and the U.S.. Learn more here: www.stand-movie.com
