The historically renowned Dasamahavidya Mahal, also referred to as Raja Bakhri or the king's palace, holds a significant position in the history of Sambalpur town. However, the current state of Raja Bakhri is a disheartening sight. Crumbling walls and ceilings, overrun by rampant creepers, serve as a poignant reminder of the neglect this majestic monument has endured.
Throughout the years, the government has failed to recognize the importance of its maintenance and preservation. Situated on a 0.93-decimal land near Kunjelpada Chhak, Raja Bakhri bears witness to numerous historical events that have shaped the identity of western Odisha.
The architectural splendor of Dasamahavidya Mahal encompasses a total of 30 chambers, while one particular chamber is revered as Rani Uas, the queen's abode. It features a charming verandah and a spacious yard, adding to its regal allure.
Sadly, unless concerted efforts are made to restore and safeguard Raja Bakhri, this invaluable piece of Sambalpur's heritage will continue to languish in a state of decay.
