We had the privilege of hosting Sam Kieschnick (@sambiology on iNaturalist) a few weeks ago, who was visiting from Texas. One of our most enthusiastic and eloquent supporters, Sam was featured in the 2016 NPR article about iNaturalist (see link below). He talks about how he uses iNaturalist for engagement, and about its use in urban ecology.

Very cool Sam! I can relate. I often talk about iNat on my walks. For me and many out there, iNat is a classroom. Thanks for the great video!

"Gladly would he learn and gladly teach" Can't say it better than Chaucer! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with others, Sam. You represent iNaturalist and the Texas Parks and Wildlife well.

Please add a report feature for iPhones. I see too many fake observations or people uploading pictures of random things.

Sam, when you make presentations to policy makers, do they invite you to present information, and are they usually receptive to what you have to say?

So far, every time I've presented to city councils and park boards, they've been incredible receptive to the message. They especially appreciate seeing the numbers of participants and, of course, the species pictures of what's been seen in the area. I hope that this translates into tangible management decisions -- so far, I've seen it a few times. For instance, a municipality just north of Dallas, TX is creating a nature park, I hope in part because of the acknowledgement of the desire of folks to seek out natural areas. :)
