My dad in the early 80's bought a 69 K100 that was originally a 2 axle, but the previous owner stretched it so that he could haul pipes out of Long Beach for a company by the name of Pipeline, out of Santa Fe Springs. It was yellow, Similar in length with tool boxes on both sides. It had a 318 Detroit with a a 16 speed Spicer box. That thing was LOUD going up the Grapevine! The previous owner gave my dad some advice. He basically said, when you go up the mountain, drive it as if you're angry. That way you won't break it. Out of all of the trucks my dad owned or drove, it was my favorite. We called it the Canary because it had Tweety Bird painted on the front. This truck reminds me of this. I'm so glad this video popped up. Thank you Ms. Flatbed Red.

Amazing. Not my favorite truck model, but favorite video. That truck lived a long and meaningful life, as his owner! And it shows, I love it! I like the fact it hasn't been restored but maintained over the years. It shows in a lovely way that's it's been used for work and not for show all these years. If it talked, it would have so much to tell! Great interview!

This is one of the most fascinating videos on youtube. And I mean that in all possible seriousness. Such an incredible truck. Such an incredible story. Such an incredible owner. You just don't get to see this stuff every day anymore. I've met a couple people similar to this at Owls Head show in July up in Rockland Maine. These are good old-fashioned, hard-working people. It's an absolute HONOR to run into people like this.

People that haven't driven/lived In a semi have NO idea how hard, harsh it is.Im 62,but only started driving in 1995 at 33 yrs old.I was forced to retire due to heart issues October 2023 after averaging 120-140 thousand miles year after year. What this man has accomplished is beyond a normal 8-5 job persons imagination.I drove modern equipment(latest air/heat systems) in horrid Arizona heat(90-122 heat)freezing, ice frozen mountains, chaining inexperienced drivers equipment so I could get past them after they got them selves stuck on mountains year after year. This man makes me feel like a punk for his amazing stamina.God bless you my brother, and all the other brothers, and sisters in this impossible industry.

I ran up and down I-5 between Canada and Eugene, Ore from 87-97……. Ran local Seattle 97-06 , then I-5 again from Medford , Ore to Canada….. I remember seeing this tractor ….. I believe I saw it hauling 60 foot rebar , probably when the guy was with Mercer….. I think I may have been right behind Joe waiting to get loaded at a couple mills. I don’t think I ever talked to him. There was another guy named Merlin who ran a early 50s KW that was a dark purple color around the same time . Truckers mostly all used to be like this guy. Really nice people on average, many of them rather intelligent. Trucking has evolved into a joke that is not funny
