My mother passed on the same day, Sammy Davis Jr. did May 16, 1990 . It makes me smile to know they went through the pearly gates the same day.

I had such a crush on Mr. Davis. When he sang Mr. Bojangles and danced, it just pulled at my heart strings. I recognized the same in my daughter who loved Michael Jackson. We live our black men and admire our innate talent.

Sammy could sing just as well as Frank Sinatra? Let me say this "I love frank" however vocally, Frank could never level up to Sammy, period. Frank would sit in the audience when Sammy performed at certain shows. Frank never envied Sammy's vocal magic he respected him for it. He knew Sammy was a better entertainer than all of the others in the Rat Pack and they knew it. Boy oh Boy I miss those days. I love the musical arrangements and lyrics. His presence was a positive influence on the nation, as he was a "crossover" entertainer, not just a "Black Entertainer." To be successful in Show Business, talent must appeal to all people. Any negative attitudes coming from Black people were based on jealousy and ignorance of his history and the fights he went through to attain his status. This is, and always has been a problem with some Black people who fail to appreciate Black celebrities who fought to overcome racial barriers and pave the way for others following them.
