I never get tired of hearing Sammy L David tell this account of how he saved the day in Vietnam. With him alongside no harm will ever come to you. A true hero and gentleman.
I got the honor to meet Mr. Davis in 2003 in PLDC (Warrior leaders Course) Germany, Had the whole room choked up telling his story, he cried, we all got to pass around his Medal of Honor. One of the most inspirational men I've ever met.
Everything I hear him tell his story it leaves me stunned. Everytime I read it, I am amazed. The amount of energy he expended is incredible. Bravery at every turn.
I have seen numerous videos of SFC Sammy Davis and in every one I have been deeply touched by his humility and sense of love for his fellow man. I grew up in an Army family, my dad having been a career NCO who retired in 1975 with the rank of SFC, Grandfather served in WW2 and was with the troops that liberated Dauchau and I grew up looking up to these men and learning much from them. I have always been fascinated with our history. I myself did not serve in the military, having gotten a good paying job right out of high school, had it not been for that I would have but at the time also i felt a little like my whole life had been a form of boot camp in itself as dad was a Drill Sgt prior to going to Vietnam in 70. So I have tried to watch every single video I can about our Medal of Honor winners and have also read about all of them before videos became more comon place. Partly out of a sense of respect and admiration and also because i find what they have managed to do under such difficult situations as truly amazing. I respect and admire every one of these heros, and for that matter every single person who has served. But of them all I love mist listening to SFC Sammy Davis and truly think he is just a great human being that we all can learn from. I would have loved to have met the man!
A true hero, and the enormous pride I feel to have the greatest soldiers on earth to keep us all free. So grateful to hear this incredible story and the respect we all should have about living life as free Americans.
How does an average guy describe such a man as this? Don't get me wrong. I know I am made by GOD with a purpose and am loved by Him. But the heroism, tenacity, critical thinking, and devotion to his team he displayed is incredible. I am thankful he is willing to share this story.
My dad is friends with him. Was eating at a red lobster with him one time, my dad cracked a crab leg and it squirted on to Sammy. My dad said you could of heard a pen drop until Sammy laughed it off.
