I just saw Sammy live for the first time and, during this song, she crowned me as first lady and put the Jackie Onassis hat on my head. I cried for the rest of the show because I was so happy to have finally met this gem just last week as I stood in the front row, kissing the edge of the stage. I will never forget it. Thank you, Sammy.

I keep listening to this song over and over. I’m not sure what I love so much about it, but it’s one of the better written and arranged new songs I’ve heard in years. I hope it catches on eventually and more people hear it.

Coming here from The Voice Norway Liv's performance as much as that was great; Sammy's voice is just perfection.

This song always gets me on my feet, dancing like a maniac, and imagining that I were signing this in front of a crowd. Thanks for this inspiration, Sammy Rae and Friends!

This song shakes me to my queer core. The way Sammy Rae and the Friends capture the intensity of a first non-hetero love-- like, ALL first loves are intense and life-changing, but when it's also wrapped up with self-discovery, acceptance, and overcoming fear and shame while you realize you're not alone in the world.. this song is something really special.

Superb. I lack the words to praise this arrangement; "and I thank you for that."

Is the bass player playing his part on a 4 string and the album is on a 5 string???? Something is different?? oh lord he is missing the half step leading tones that make the chorus so lovely, why is he not hitting those 3rds before the next chord

Baby, just love it, put the harmony and theory aside

Came here to say this.

Why? Because we may love the elements of the recording but the person playing live gets to put their spin on it. It’s not a matter of the player “missing” something. You’re missing it’s presence, I did too! He’s still performing his function very well and with his own creative flair. That’s the live performer’s prerogative. He is there and you aren’t 😂 you can either go listen to the recording or you can go take his job. That’s not gonna happen by whining in the RU-vid comment section. If Sammy and the band wasn’t happy with the bass player’s interpretation of the song he wouldn’t be playing with them for long. I just watched another performance of this song to a huge screaming crowd posted 1month ago so I guess he’s successfully doing his job. Also, a leading tone is always a half-step so it’s redundant to say “leading tone half-steps”. More precisely a leading tone is a major 7th scale degree (raised 7th in minor) resolving upwards to tonic, even of a momentarily tonicized key. So if you’re talking about the series of half-step downwards bass movement in the chorus… those aren’t even leading tones. That harmony is taken from secondary dominants or tritone substitution. It’s voice leading not a leading tone. AND he does do it. He’s just not playing the song like a paint by numbers exercise. There’s always some breathless commenter that needs to prove they know some theory by shitting on the people actually grinding (who also know theory!) Sour grapes lol
