In this mpc 4000 tutorial, I cover some of the basics on how to sample into the MPC as well as chopping those samples up to play them back! This will further help with beat making and mpc 4000 house music!

I've been a MPC user for a long time but there's always little things that you miss in your own workflow, so I'm happy to pick up some things in these tutorials and see how others work. I have been considering changing machines to something more modern, like a Digitakt but your videos reminded what a good unit the 4K is.

Hey RT, thanks man. Nice video. How would the mpc 4000 be as a DAW? I've got a little Roland synth, guitar and other stuff I want to record different tracks and takes from. Along with some vocals, then "perform" a song on an MPC and record the performance, and then tweak the performance. If that's possible on an MPC. (Ableton just doesn't feel right for me, putting this all together.)
@RickyTinez
@RickyTinez 5 лет назад
I currently use it as a DAW. And it works. But it’s a little tricky at times and you have to really think about the way you record things in and how you play them out. For example for the record a baseline you have to make sure you trigger that loop correctly in time. It’s really fun but it’s not like a traditional DAW where you have stems and you arrange them and what not you do technically have to sort of play them in

Rickey Tinez I have somebody offering me a trade of their MPC 4000 for my MPC Live. Right now my MPC Live is worth more than the MPC 4000, but I'm not sure which will retain it's value better. Both units have their advantages and disadvantages... Portability and power across the board for the MPC Live (Plug-ins in a stand-alone MPC), and more midi control and a better sample engine for the MPC 4000. Both my MPC Live and his MPC 4000 are in excellent physical and working conditions. My question to you is would you make this trade if you were in my shoes? Does the behemoth size of the MPC 4000 make it less future proof since the future of technology is to make gear smaller for more studio space, and more portable, while at the same time being more powerful on paper???

Mr Automatech yo! For me personally, I’ve never had a piece of gear resonate with me so much. The 4000 is def the best of the MPCs when it comes to doing everything you would need in a DAW. if you can find one under $700ish I’d say grab it!

I have 2 question: why is the 4000 your favorite? What makes it special over other MPCs? Second: do you think it’s a good machine for live as well, or is it really more intended for production? Asking because I saw one on Craigslist at a fair price and I’m. Wondering ...🤔
@RickyTinez
@RickyTinez 5 лет назад
I think the 4000 is my favorite because it offers the most flexibility but it still has a bit of that old-school sound and old-school feel. I'm actually in the middle of setting it up for a live set and it's pretty tricky, but once you understand the way it works it's pretty simple. It's a beast in a studio and can easily run your entire setup. what is a fair price?

Hey Enrique, loving your vids man.....you break stuff down so perfectly, brilliant tutorials! I've had a 4000 for a while now and was trying to figure out how to chop and program drums in the style of DJ Shadow and Amon Tobin......just finding it super hard to find any valid info out there on the web, it's beyond esoteric! I'm guessing Shadow programmed a lot of his drum hits without quantise.....but, on the 4000 this means your hits don't show up on the step editor, so you can't manipulate anything after you're done recording?! I don't know, maybe I've got something wrong....I really do love the MPC, but I'm finding it really frustrating to try and program drums that sound natural and flow like a real break... I've been trying to emulate Shadow's 'Lost & Found' by chopping up the U2 Bloody Sunday break, but I just keep scratching my head when I can't get it to work out. My attempts are always clumsy and don't line up right.....it's sooo annoying! Any pointers before I ditch the MPC and give up trying to write beats....?! Any info would be much appreciated........peace X
@RickyTinez
@RickyTinez 6 лет назад
Dandroid5000 don’t ditch it!! I had that saaammeee issue. But check this, after you’ve recorded stuff into the sequencer unquantized, hit the time correct button and set it to anything (1/16 works well) and it should show you where your hits are A LOT easier. And once you’re lined up with the hit you want to correct, turn off time correction and it’ll be hovering near that note information. Make sense? After that highlight the black circle and select the move F1-6 button and adjust the numbers. They take a second to get used to but it’s not bad

Erin Ramona Martinez it’s a great name! If I had to choose just one it would definitely be the 4000. Just because it still has the classic MPC sound but it’s really easy to use and super flexible. Buuuuttt it’s massive haha, so if space is an issue I’d say get the 2500 it still sounds pretty good and isn’t too big, it does so much. And if space is really an issue get a 1000 and you’d be set! Note repeat, having trouble with it

So note repeat is a weird one. It needs the MPC to be playing in order for it to work. Also make sure time correction is on. If time correction is set to 1/16, note repeat will play 1/16 while the sequencer is running. Make sense??

Here is what I would do to save me tons of time: Instead of using this machine, I would record my loop or whatever sound into my DAW. Then edit everything about my loop in my DAW. Then get a sampler (many are free online for Windows), and put your finished and edited loop into each Sampler channel. That way I don't have to be following a long maze of menus in an old style machine like this one AND I would save a thousand dollars not having to buy this Akai MPC 4000.
