Peter Siedlaczek did a wonderful job, showing how to play The Trumpet with a keyboard and an expression pedal.
This tutorial highlights basic techniques for shaping articulations such as staccato, legato, portamento, crescendo, decrescendo, vibrato, shakes, "dirty flutter", frullato.
More advanced articulations and phrases (split portamentos, falls, trills, runs), use of controllers, first and second level keyswitches, wah-wah & mutes, are also highlighted and discussed in detail.
We expect this tutorial to be very helpful to beginners, experienced users, and future customers of The Trumpet. (Giorgio Tommasini)

Do me a favor. Can you do accordeon. would sustain or expression pedal is recommended for accordeon waves.

Hello. Great Video. I have the same keyboard as you and I was wondering how you connected your expression pedal because there is no input for it on the keybaord.

Same here. I think it is attached to the mid cc controlled keyboard he has on top. I have a similar set-up, and use the cc knobs off of an m-audio to control me SL-990.

Sustain pedal doesn’t work for this purpose. What you use is an Expression Pedal.

I don't have an expression pedal. Any help would be appreciated. Everytime I contact Sample modeling, all I get is you have to set cc11 to the expression pedal. Thanks. I'm using a Nektar impact 88 key with Logic 10. Nektar impact doesn't have a jack for expression pedal

+David Grant Hi! You can use any kind of controllers. Not only a pedal. Modwheel or a midi fader assigned to any cc number, just set this number in remapping page in an instrument. All the best!

Can you recommend a durable, good expression pedal ? I realize this is like learning a new instrument and one must practice. BUT: have you any suggestions on how to best go about doing this ? Should you just pick a well-phrased rich (e.g. lots of expression, legato, shakes, etc.) real trumpet line and keep practicing it until you've got it. Then go on to another one with a different set of performance techniques (trills, doits, fall offs, etc.) and do the same ? I would guess after doing that awhile you might be able to come closer in real time to expressing your own lines with all those keyswitches and CCs, but it sure looks incredibly daunting, like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time.

+bcarwell1 On a practical level, unless you plan on using this VST for playing live concerts, you don't need to nail a perfect performance on your first try. The point is that the instrument is very playable so you could get something close to a finished line on a first try, or have the flexibility to improvise, but ALL of the MIDI CCs and keyswitches required to get the most convincing sound out of the instrument can be edited manually, by mouse and keyboard, after the fact. There's no need to become a SampleModeling-specific virtuoso, but knowing all this CC and keyswitch info is handy for programming your trumpet lines to sound good - whether you do it live on the keyboard or manually later. If your desired finished product is a piece of music, then there's no need to get good at playing this live. And you don't need an expression pedal to do this, either
