I just love that you infused humor into your channel this past year or so. These vids went from straight super informative to equally entertaining as well. Great stuff Navie!
5:50 being an old man myself, I remember the sp and the mpc. The limitations on those machines forced creativity. Records were often sped up when sampled and the pitch/speed brought back down inside the machine. You could fit more samples in that way. Speed a 10 second loop up to 2 seconds and it uses 1/5 the memory.
Really love these type of videos. A couple of days ago I was questioning the difference between most producers today and the super producers of the past coming into present, and how much they paved the way, but also in how accessible daws and plug-ins are that make our job ARGUABLY on the same level, if not a higher level, than the people before us. Of course you made music with big names and companies, but seeing how much closer the line is compared to how far we think it is before is pretty wild.
You're not serious right? Limited memory, limited sampling time, extended sampling and saving time, procuring material was actual labor vs unlimited obscure records at your fingertips on the web, making chops on a tiny screen with no snap to zero, on and on. Whatever makes you feel better though. Lmao.
My brother you are literally the 🐐 and the fact that you are underrated makes you a gem 💎 To us! I appreciate all that you have done and do for us ! 👏🏾👏🏾💪🏾🎶🎶 And I would love to see “YOUR WORK RECREATING HIT BOY”
Dope video!! I'm discovering your content and the work put in your video editing is crazy. One thing tho, I think your beat is way too quantized to compete with a DJ premier beat, even tho you really managed to flip that sample! Would be fire with more swing!
One of the things that made beats back then so good were the limitations. You had very limited sample time so you had to make sure the samples and chops were the sh*t.
Alright Navie… this is too much… 😂😂😂 No way you better than Primo, but mad respect for making this vid.. Pete Rock, Madlib obv other comparisons to do… DangerMouse, too - his Cheat Codes album with Black Thought is currently my album of the year
SOMEBODY WATCHED THE ALCHEMIST MASTERCLASS LOL. ITS TRUE THO, MAKING A DRUM PATTERN AND PLAYING IT WHILE UR SKIMMING THROUGH RECORDS IS A WAY OF COMING UP WITH IDEAS THAT MAKE YOUR BEATS LESS THOUGHT OUT AND MORE IN THE MOMENT. THIS VIDEO HAD ME DYING BRO LMAO
The question is how premier arrange his beat from start 2 finish? How they really produce back in the days?? Even with all the limitation we still use DAW. By the way, Dope beat ;)
As a Preemo Stan, I can't say that your beat is better but it's amazing none the less. You got me wanting to give Serato Sample some play. I hope they slide you some coins😁
Hello, my name is Doctor Boombaps. What do you think about battle of the beats with subscribers.... they could submit a beat, send you the same sample they used... and see what you do with it. ?.
Why not use the beginning of the song? Lots of clean and open space there for sampling and making up melodies. Overall, I like the GangStarr song better. It's simpler, but your song is not bad in the slightest. It has more of a Prefuse 73 vibe than that of a mid 90's boombap beat.
IMO this is the most fun way to sample. Dilla did it a lot too. Pick a recurring sound like those high notes or a kick and a snare and then chop the song along all of those recurrences and play the chops to a drum beat until something jumps out at you. It opens you up to thousands of options if you crate dig for samples. BTW my new tape is finally out on my channel go give it a peep if y'all have the time
