Oh don’t feel bad about crying!! My daughter is 30 and I cry when I get off the phone with her! I love her so much😊...oh....what a lovely tribute to samplers !! I’m looking forward to this month and watching all of the pics on Instagram. I’m still plugging away on Elizabeth Sheffield.....but that hasn’t stopped me from starting 3 more samplers! Thanks so much for all the great info on samplers!

🤗. Hi Theresa! Thank you for the interesting video on samplers. Bless your heart, it’s hard when our children leave and go so far from home. I’m sure he will be okay, he was brought up by a very smart woman! ❤️

By the time my kids moved out, I was ready and then right after, my mom moved in with us for care. Have not gotten that empty nest yet. I don't think I've done a sampler ever, but I bet I have one in my stash. So many lovelies just waiting to be started. Love and kisses to the kitties.

I will be stitching on an older sampler pattern by Sheepish Designs called The Garden Path. It was passed on to me from my mother in law's cross stitch stash. She actually had started stitching the design, and I will be completing it. Sampler September has given me the inspiration I need to get going on it.

Hey Theresa I love seeing the samplers that you have done, are doing or have bought. Really didn't start that way but you're right they get in under your skin... And you just have to have a sampler in your hand. They are fun to do.

Hi, Theresa! My Mama's heart aches for you as your miss your boy ( and Peaches). I am joining you in Sampler September!! I am so excited.. I am not on Instagram ( probably one of the only people in AMerica without a smart phone :0 ) I am currently working on Sarah Braizear from Hands a cross the Sea and as I was watching you, I was stitching on your Ann Dale.. She is SO lovely. I converted the colors to match the ones on the front cover photo--- more rusty than rosy. I am having a blast.. Looking forward to seeing you again

I've recently started Ann Emptage. She's really a pleasure to stitch and the picture on the cover doesn't do it justice at all. I can only imagine the crying I'll go through when my kids leave. You're such a good mom.

Hi Theresa, I have been stitching for 50 years but have never stitched a sampler. Your description of progressing thru stitching styles fits me perfectly. I have looked at sampler charts for the last year but have never tried one. You have encouraged me to try one. I look forward to starting 1859 Anna. I love the cat and the different colors in the alphabet. Thanks

I am currently working on the Jane Austen Sampler by Riverdrift House because I am a huge Austen fan. I also am waiting for the Portuguese Sampler pattern to come. I love all your information on the Samplers. Thank you for sharing! I feel for you and your sorrow with your son moving away. I cried a lot after my niece went away to college and I wasn't even her mother.

You asked if we watch all your videos? I sure do, right from the get-go. Some I've watched twice so I could take notes, make a list of charts I want to stitch. I'm delighted to hear you'll be putting up a video every week in Sept. Yahoo. I'm approaching the finish line onCaroline Broomhead, 1838 by Plum Street. I'll be starting 3 new ones: A Savior's Praise by you know who, Esther Iddison, & Merrily, Merrily We Welcome Spring. That's the lineup so far. I so enjoyed this latest video, the evolution of stitching, your insights into the world of designers and the challenges they face when they release their artwork. I never fail to learn something new from your videos, so I thank you for sharing all your knowledge, it's much appreciated. Having our kids leave home and start their adult journey is so hard but it will get easier. Promise.

So many mixed emotions when our children take the next step in their lives. My son moved 5 hours away a number of years ago still hard when he leaves after a visit. I enjoy hearing about the different samplers. Currently working on Our Saviour’s Praise and have Elizabeth Weston front Hands Across the Sea

For my birthday weekend, I started Hanna Gilpin on Friday - an Ackworth sampler now owned by Stitchy Box who bought the rights to your Needleprint quakers. Some charts are on PDF download but some are not. I started Mahala Barber yesterday by Fox and Rabbit, gorgeous! Today is Luz Gonzalez by Samplers Remembered and tomorrow is Susan Rambo by SANQ. I just did a flip through of my SANQ disc on my channel if you want to see my favorites. I'll be posting with the hashtag and thank you so much for encouraging stitchers like me. My firstborn left for college two weeks ago so I feel your pain - a mother's heart is black and blue (Stephanie said it well). Blessings to you.

I started stitching Three Lilies by La D Da this weekend, which I just picked up from kittenstitcher. com. I am also stitching Stacy Nash's Cherry Hollow Farm Sampler. Kind of new to all of this and starting with the smaller pieces. Spanish Mystery Sampler is calling my name now! Maybe I will pick it up with the 20% discount. I can empathize with those tears! I only have one child who is now 27 and living in Ann Arbor, Michigan (I live in Northern VA). Thankfully he likes to come home quite a bit to see friends and family, and hopefully so will Harrison!

Don't cry about your son going off to Denver! My son left PA about 5 years ago to move to Denver. Although I was very sad to see him go, he absolutely loves it! I have a feeling Harrison will make his way in the world (or at least in Colorado!) and do just fine. Even though I miss my son, I know he's happy there. And what more could a mom want?

I've just ordered Harriet Salt from HATS, a Bristol orphanage sampler. Can't see to stitch such a big sampler on 40 count without migraines so I plan to stitch it on 32 or even 28 which would be close to a square yard in size and then finish it as a quilted wall hanging.

Those samplers are inspiring. I am also working on Miss Mary Anne Bourne but am wanting to work on Agnes Platt, I love the border and motifs. I do love houses, big red houses. Thank you for sharing another video with wonderful ideas. I have at least 2 Samplers that I will start in September! Also I have a wonderful son that reminds me of yours. He is living at home for now, going to school. He is such a wonderful helper as my hubby is disabled from a stroke, and I’m battling the evil cancer crap. Cross stitching is my stress release! Those samplers in that slide show were amazing 😍! My first samplers were Shepherds Bush and they gave me a lot of confidence in executing specialty stitches. I loved how quickly they stitched up too. I adore the Bristol samplers, probably because I love alphabets. (That must be the teacher in me.)

I have always loved samplers and have a few books of sampler charts from way back in the 80's but I guess I never felt that I could do one. Now I'm loving them. I'm presently finishing Quaker Bluebird Sampler by Willow Hill Samplings which I love. I have purchased charts for several HATS samplers, including Sarah Braizear 1829 and Elizabeth Atkinson 1829, but I truly love more primitive samplers so I'm planning to "age" them with thread colors and fabric. I bought the chart for Rhapsody in Blue by Fouroaks designs about 6 years ago in honor of my favorite aunt, with whom I shared a love of blue and white china. I am still searching for just the right fabric and thread to start that one. I have also started On Prudence by Plum Street which is a modern sampler but with a great message. There are so many I want to buy and I thank you for the generous offer of 20% off. Now to just decide which one.....

So happy to see a new flosstube from you so soon. I have the Lucy Snushall chart. I love the quote on it. I have a terrible time choosing fabric and threads because it is so hard to tell colors, texture, drape, etc. online and I do not have a local needlework shop. I got to visit The Attic last March and Lucy jumped out at me, but I didn’t have the presence of mind (or budget) at the time to choose fabric and fibers. Just started using a bit of silk (and LOVE it), but can be sooo pricey to complete a whole project using same. Many of the quotes on samplers make me cringe and not a fan of Adam and Eve, but I’ve seen many a sampler without- so many to choose from (or from which to choose). Graham is a doll. Best of luck to him on his new adventures! Good to see you, Sally in Northern California 😁

Lovely video. So much history and my Mom is Scottish so I am learning our heritage through samplers. Almost done with Elizabeth Atkinson 1829, started Frances Pool for Sampler September. There is so many that I would like to do but looking for a sampler with some specialty stitches to do next. When our oldest son moved to Vermont and we helped him move along with his friend, on our way home with his friend in the car, I cried the whole 6 hours. I couldn’t stop and I knew it was what he always wanted but it was hard to adjust. But a great place to visit all the time. He’s in California now but again a great place to visit.

Hi Theresa, it was so good to see you today!! I had forgotten that you said you were going to be coming around more often for Sampler September. I love it!! I am so sorry you are having the empty-nest blues. Please feel free to tell Graham that your stitchy friends say he should call/text often to help you slowly get used to this new life-change., He's a great guy, I'm sure he will be keeping in touch as much as his schedule will allow! I've been through the empty nest myself and felt that hole that develops inside. I'm not an emotional person at all and I never thought it would bother me in the least, but it took me a couple of weeks to get past it. Oh, and I might add here that my daughter had married and moved a whole two miles down the road at the time! Ha!!! Yep, a whole two miles!! ;-) It's obviously a motherly thing! I'm praying for you!! So I decided to bring out an old sampler that I started way back in the eighties and never finished. It is The Pomegranate Sampler by Darlene O'Steen of Needle's Prayse. I had the border almost finished, but that was all. This will be my project this month. I have a ton more I want to do, but I have to save time to get projects for birthdays and holidays completed. Unfortunately, no one in my family likes samplers! The nerve!!! ;-) See you in a week!

What a fascinating episode. Thank you so much for focusing on samplers. I was never interested in stitching reproduction samplers until I started watching flosstube and seeing how much many really enjoyed stitching them. I began looking closer at them and realized that they are beautiful. I just started my first reproduction sampler last month on my birthday. It's the Dorothy Preston 1752 Sampler from Sampler and Antique Needlework, Vol. 1 book. It's gorgeous. Also, it's so mind-blowing to stitch something that was stitched by a 10-year-old girl 267 years ago.

Hey Theresa! For Sampler September, I started the S. Ward kit which I purchased last September from you and I am loving it! Even though I have been stitching for over 30 years, mostly samplers, I would like to try a Hands Across the Sea pattern but they look a bit complicated with specialty stitches and stitched on 40 count or higher. They intimidate me since I can only see 32 count with magnification and bifocals! But perhaps you could recommend one to me. My favorite designs are by Blackbird which I have done over many years. I love your videos and I have watched them all, sometimes twice ! Thank you for the sampler viewing at the end of this video, along with the beautiful classical music. Thank you so much! xo

Hey Teresa, I can totally relate to your sadness now that Harrison has left. I have been an empty nester for a couple of years. I loved having my boys at home, and still have occasional days when I'm "all into crying" due to missing them. But it does get better! :-) Sampler September... yay! I absolutely love samplers. I recently finished Summer at Hollyberry Farm. I started Little House Needleworks Family Sampler a couple of years ago, but got held up on charting my own family. I'm determined to get back to that one for Sampler September! :-) Then next up, I'm dying to get Sweet Templer Sampler, and then I'm thinking Susan Singleton by the Scarlet Letter. Should be a fun September! See you at Galleria!

Hi there 👋. I am new to your Flosstube. Several of the other Flosstubers that I watch often mention you, so I thought I would check you out. Glad I did!!! You won my heart with Samplers. When you were describing the process of getting to samplers is EXACTLY how I arrived at samplers. I actually just started my first sampler about 3 weeks ago because I love the colors, it looks simple (which is refreshing) and I love the verse on it. It has on it the verse I come to frequently when I have something going on in my life. The Sampler is “Time and Season” by Moira Blackburn. I am loving stitching this project.

Oh, samplers, my favorite! I have always loved samplers; while so similar in so many ways, they are also so very different from each other. Under my needle are "Catharine Dickinsen, 1840" by Sunflower Seed and "Sunflower House" by Blackbird Designs. One I am wanting to do is "Lucy Snushall, 1847" by Samplers Remembered. The reason I want to do it is because of the red but also because my aunt, Margaret "Lucy" Goudschaal, loved to embroider. The names are just too close not to do it. A fun sampler remembrance is of our 5 year old daughter walking down the display halls of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Museum in Colonial Williamsburg and "interpreting" the displays. "That is embroidery, that is candle knots (candlewicking), that is cross stitch. That is a sampler and that is how they learned their letters and stitching." People were amazed but since I was stitching; she was interested and trying to do it also.

Wow.. so very much enjoyed your sampler discussion today. Since I started cross stitch again last Fall, I've been drawn to samplers so most of what I've stitched is samplers. I'm doing a somewhat simple one this time by Plum Street, The Wool & Flax Co. because I loved the colors and the sheep :o) I would love to learn how to design samplers and further understand the meaning behind the different symbols/depictions in samplers. Hope you are crying less soon and your stitching brings you joy!

Happy Sampler September! I want all the samplers and I want them all stitched now so I can have walls of samplers. I never saw a sampler I didn't like except for the first one I attempted to do about 40 years ago. It was a sampler with boring colors (at least I thought that at the time) and it was too hard to make sure the motifs were balanced on each side so I never finished it. Plus, I avoided samplers for like 39 years until you and a couple of other floss tubers inspired me to try again. I love them now. I love the muted colors and the history and the wonky ones and mistakes are ok. Currently working on the Hope Sampler by Moira Blackburn. Yes, I want to stitch every photo you showed at the end of your video so someone needs to get busy reproducing those into patterns for all us Sampler freaks.

I have just placed my order to do the A Sampling by Ann. You mentioned this one on one of your videos. And I think it will be perfect . Love ya Theresa, thank you.

Theresa - I so enjoy your videos, and could listen to you talk about samplers and the needlework industry for hours! I am anxious to start a sampler chart I just ordered from you, by Cross Stitch Antiques, called Band of Roses. So sorry to hear that you are so sad about Harrison, I have been through this three times - and it is indeed painful. Wishing you the best, and yes, take your Sundays off!

Looks like a fine young man! Best wishes to him and a hug for you! You are very special to us. Moving on, I am working on Quaker Garden which I plan to add the alphabet to. I did buy a sampler from your sale and I've forgotten which one. Maybe one by Scarlet Letter... I'm looking forward to looking at it and stitching. I will start a new one, maybe BBD Quaker sampler you showed. Love it.

Is it bad that my favorite part of this video was your B-52's reference? I LOVE the B-52's. I feel you with the crying...this weekend was a rough one with my mental health. No real reason why either...just one of those weekends :/ Next year I would love to finally start the Uffindell Sisters from HATS. Yes, I finally got my hands on one. It was GIFTED! Can you believe that??? I didn't have to spend $400 like some people have lol

I SAW THAT! I was so excited you got that chart!!! I freakin' love the B52's -- I was way into them back in the early 80's when I was 13-ish (and then on from then). "Wild Planet" is the best one. THE DEVIL'S IN MY CAR!!!! - T

I am soooo excited about SamplerSeptember!! Samplers are all I stitch. I am stitching on an old Elsa Williams Chase that I never got finished & am going to stitch 2 hours each day in September as my participation goal. I also hope to start Mary Slatter by Worcester Art Museum Samplers. I have 108 samplers kitted and ready to stitch - now all I have to do is live to age 198 and I am gold. I am off to take advantage of your generous discount because I really need 109 samplers ready to go. Thanks for doing this Theresa!

Love your idea of #samplerseptember and starting a new one each week, I'm going to join you! Working on A Saviour's Praise right now! Looking forward to seeing you at Galleria! :)

I love hearing you talk about samplers! I’m about 1.5 pages into Elizabeth Weston from HATS, and am considering starting The Checkerboard Stag Sampler for #samplerSeptember. Hugs for the crying. I was a mopey mess when Thomas moved out.

I am a Sampler Newbie or rather a Sampler Zero...I am thinking the book would be a great place to start! A friend gifted me a chart called the Christmastime Sampler A.L.W. 1858 which is where I shall start...kinda scary

I've got a couple samplers going but they're not typical ones.they are peacock garden sampler, little alien schoolgirl sampler by Ink Circles, Spanish wine by wild heart, and persuasion by the stitching parlor.

Don't be sad. He will come back with a wife and a baby or two. He is off on a grand adventure. I felt like you, sad and crying but now I enjoy the clean house and the no heavy rock music!

I'm kitting up Sarah Chapple and am working on Christmas Garden by BBD. Also, Ann Dale has been calling my name loudly lately. At first I thought it was one of the boys but turns out it's the big and beautiful lady. 😉😅

I am glad that you are doing Sampler September. I have actually wanted to either create my own sampler since samplers from Georgia are rare or recreate one that was done by one of my ancestors (Kezia Rivers) and is featured in This Have I Done.

I love samplers! Just found a picture of an ancestor sampler, I’d love to find a reproduction chart! Good luck to Harrison, sounds like he has a great future ahead.

Looking forward to Sampler September! I'm currently stitching Eliza Mitchell and Mary Hogg. I have Sarah Chapple all ready to start -- so maybe this month. I don't like to have too many projects going at once. I think I can finish Mary Hogg and start a new one soon!

Yay! I'm going to love this month of videos from you! I started Sarah Casey Unwin on the first, and have Lucy Calcutt 1825 on the go, and get a new start on Sunday which will be a sampler! You may not be aware but a few of us flosstubers have done a sampler chart parade in the last couple of weeks - me, Kindred Stitcher and Kansas City Girl in a Colorado World, that I know of so far. Count me out of the book - postage to New Zealand would require the sale of a kidney!

I have so many samplers started but for Sampler September I'm going to focus on Scarlet Letter's Dorothy Walpole, Needleprint's Scottish Sampler 1757 and With My Needle and Threads Forget me Not Sampler. I'm not sure I'll get any of them finished but hopefully I can make good progress. I was lucky enough to be given my great great grandmothers sampler when I was twelve so I think that I was predisposed to love samplers when I started stitching. Good luck to Harrison, change is hard. We are about to start the new adventure that is High school with our daughter which seems to have come round far too quickly.

i am working on Amy Ball 1810 by The Scarlet Letter, this is one you don't see very often. I purchased the kit when I got to go there in person and purchased the one I thought was the most beautiful.

I am currently working on several sampler WIPs, but what’s on the bars now is Miss Sarah Brazier.by HATS. I will probably continue to work on her after I finish pre-stitching for a class piece for Needlework Galleria. I certainly hope to see you there! Last year your room/shop was so crowded I never made it in! Love the book your are offering!

I would love to start one of the Uffindell sisters. My favourite ever chart is Louisa Coulimore from HATS. She just speaks to me. - Thank you for doing such a great job with your videos. I stretched my first ever project using your instructions a couple of days ago. It worked!

Your sampler is beautiful and the education you give me is great! I’m doing A Saviours Praise and I wanted to start red deer sampler on the first but unfortunately I had an accident with a knife versus my thumb, knife won slightly. So I’m gonna be out of commission for stitching for a few days but hope to start it soon. I’m so excited about September and seeing your episodes❤️

You have to tell Harrison to go to Marco’s Coal Fired Pizza on Larimer ( right by the baseball park). Best traditional pizza, sliders, salads. 😁

Hi Theresa Seems almost like we were thinking along similar lines about what to stitch, books etc ... what an amazing giveaway ! Another book I have been dawdling about - there is so much to learn. I would love to get my hands on The Chase /Mary Starke / Williamsburg sampler - for some reason that is intriguing me these days.... I am also going to pick 3 samplers from my stash - and start stitching on two UFOs/WIPs and one easy one. Thank you for such a great video - watched it twice to be sure I got all the details - beautiful samplers in the Gallery at the end.

I have been holding out to start some samplers for Sampler September. My big one that is ongoing is Sally Spencer. My version will be rather unconventional. There are a few in Oh La La I would love to stitch, but there is a rooster sampler I found on Etsy that demands it be first. Onward to glory!

Sorry you are feeling bad about your son. I have 3 sons . I moved 18 times in 29 years. I had to leave my boys at college and move across the country. My 48 son had been living with us for the last 5 years for health reasons. He moved out and went across the country. Still sad!😏 I have been stitching samplers for over 45 years. Always have several going. But I pretty much limit the size. Great video! Love your talks.

I've been planning to start "It must've been the mistletoe" by Heartstrings Samplery. It keeps calling my name. I have done another band sampler by her and there are more in the same style as the one I did before. I loved it so much that I want to do the other 2. The other one is called "I've got my love to keep me warm."
