I still remember when I met KSHMR. He was a producer without much popularity. He started out as a "ghost producer", made songs for famous DJs and didn't get any credit. Later he began his career as a DJ, in a short time he gained the admiration of other DJs and fans of electronic music. I am so glad that one of my favorite electronic music producers has come out of the shadows and now their sound libraries are used by many producers in the music industry, not only in EDM also in another music genres. He finally got the recognition he deserves. He also has his own record label "Dharma Worldwide".

How You Like That drop too ?? I just feel so bad I was literally worshipping Teddy and company for creating this sound. Sure they're the ones who arranged it like this but my life is still a lie.

Stay Tonight too I'm shocked.. and a few others. I love when producers sample things but not when they just put something that was made as a sample. @@yadommmmm970 I watched the interview on Genius with the producer 24. I don't find one with Teddy. 24 explained how the song was made but didn't explicitly said "the drop is made with this sample I bought". I already thought that the sample on Lisa's rap part was too much because they kept the sample exactly as it was, just added some effects. I was really impressed about that oriental guitar sound, I actually thought they had composed and played the piece, of couse it's disappointing when I found out they just downloaded it.. But I mean it's a verse, Lisa's voice is on top, it's fine. It's just that now at the end of the day I don't really know what is new and original, what is the work of the producers, and what is not. As a musician myself it makes a huge difference on how I appreciate the work of a producer. Yes I realized now that there must be like you say so many songs that heavily rely on premade melodies and sounds.
@liyang1436
@liyang1436 2 года назад
Well, teddy still arranged the sample to make it more cohesive. I’m not sure how hard producing a high quality track is, but i’m pretty sure its not just cut, paste, adjust volume/speed/pitch and call it a day as I have definitely seen songs that sounds horribily mixed but less experienced producers I see sampling as more of an instrument, so I don’t really need to be hung up on whether they manually produced the sound by fiddling around in some programme.
@Raphael-2
@Raphael-2 2 года назад
@@liyang1436 I make music and when I heard How You Like That I was very impressed by how the synth of the drop sounded, and by the melody of it. Creating digital instruments and composing are big part of what a producer does. I assumed it was the work of the producers credited but it turned out it was not, as we can hear the sound and the melody is almost the same in the original sample. Then, as I already written, the producers credited are the ones who arranged it, they did an amazing work with the ideas and the mixing. But that's not even half of the process. When samples are used as an instrument, they don't keep the same melody too. It's really a total other thing to come up with this sound on your own or not, it makes a very big difference as I know how hard it is.

i love it when these samples are like incorporated into something bigger with other sounds but when it's like only the sample for a whole portion of the track it kinda feels a bit lazy to me idk?? i know producing music is insanely hard and i could never do it but i suppose it kinda disappoints me sometimes i guess. (p.s. i mean when the sample is just exactly the same with no changes and used for like 20 seconds)
@RelaxRelapse720
@RelaxRelapse720 2 года назад
I get why people feel this way, but I think people imagine it's easier than it is to find the right sample and make it work with the rest of the track. Even if it's the main part of the song. People always say just find the sample and throw some drums on, but what drums? If you're doing trap you have to make sure the 808 is in tune and the snares and hi-hats aren't distracting and match with the rest of the track. If you're doing something EDM you have to make sure the kick and snare cut through without being muddy with the sample. And that's only the start. Even the samples that are just the same thing looped endlessly still have additional instrumentation or some type of editing.

@@akma3828 I would argue it's debatable whether it's hard or not. Is it hard to throw drums over a sample? No. Will it sound as good as the tracks in this video? Probably not. I had always been impressed by the sounds in it and always wondered how their producer came up with those. Well... Now i got the answer lol. @kia7nnn
@kia7nnn 2 года назад
this is what i'm saying .. i feel as though it's fine to use samples, as they can spark up creativity and make up a new idea. but, if the creativity IS the sample, then it just feels .. lazy? i don't necessarily think producers should have the main hook, lead melody or melody line a sample as it just comes off lazy tbh. yes i am guilty of that too when i feel uninspired or not creative but i try to avoid doing that

I think HYLT can be forgiven in this because only the chorus sounds and the sitar samples were used, which is like probably around 30 to 40% of the instrumental and it is altered and given a new flow to make it suit the song. I think LALISA is the probably the least one here because the main melody wasn't that far from the sample and the whole song repeats the same track. Even the breakdown also has a sample which frustrates me. Like, the song felt rushed as people were now hyping up Lisa's solo debut and were really up for it, so they were like just gotta whip up something even though they were out of ideas. Teddy Park and 24 feels like they are suffering from artistic burnout and must take a break even though these ventures are getting the numbers.

There are more of them in Dilemma. The one in the chorus between "Dilemma" (x4) and "Dilemma" (x4) sounds like KSHMR as well. There is also that one in Naeun's trap part, which I find too prevalent and not necessarily the best fit and implementation. The pre-chorus seems like two samples blended together as well, both the guitar part and the other, a bit hidden, effect-ish(?) one. That part of the song is actually pretty good, works well with Hayoung's voice, lyrics and other added effects as well.

Came back to listen to this again and the thing I love about how SKZ used this sample is how many rhythms are added to it-it’s almost like this sample was used as a drum beat rather than the melody bc the melody was formed by adding a line of piano track with its own rhythm and fast synth sounds underneath it and it just creates this whole new melody with the sample smoothly adding to the melody rather than it *being* the entire melody And as the song continues playing, it’s the piano track and not the sample that grows louder and stands out. Just incredible mixing on 3RACHA & Brian Atwood’s parts

@@peters_jeekies1153 I just listened to it and DANK’s profile says he’s a remix producer, so I think it’s not sampling in that case but rather remixing. The main difference I _think_ is that he’s taking the entirety of the song, minus the vocals, and switching it up, rather than plucking a part out and blending it into a wholly new song. Like Jason Derulo sampling Hide & Seek by Imogen Heap for Whatcha Say (lol)

Literally to kill time before the release of the Apink song a few days ago, I let RU-vid algorithm me to one of your videos. So when “Dilemma” started I was like, “Aha! A sample!” then spent forever trying to figure out the song that was stuck in my head (Wooah Hip) because it used the same sample.

why do yall seem disappointed about producers using samples in kpop songs? atleast they're creative enough to fit them in several songs with different styles and genres, like that's very impressive

@goth catboy you know its normal and very well accepted that producers use samples. like this is a normal thing in the music industry, its usually people who have some misunderstanding of it that dont seem ok with it

@goth catboy but whotf are you that needed to be impressed by the songs? You’re not even a composer yourself so shush and its the music industry so i guess all of the producers in the world ain’t that impressive for using someones samples? I guess ariana sampling “ my favorite things “ and turned it into “ 7 rings “ is not impressive i guess.

@sarochisa
@sarochisa 2 года назад
@goth catboy okay greatest composer in the world i know this isn't impressive for you, but for average people with no skills in this kind of field it's very impressive for them. Producers are still creative for matching sound effects with the samples and to match the idols voices too? it's not like they slap it in and pitch up n down and call it a day, they still able to connect the samples with the whole song (pre-chorus, bridge) without ruining it too much

I already knew this was a sample of someone else voice because it was obviously not EXID's voices. But I thought they had picked this somewhere unexpected. There was a rumor it was Sia's voice I thought they had sampled an old unreleased song of Sia or something. Now that I know it was simply a bought sample I'm disappointed.
