I've known about these tools in Illustrator for a long time, but seeing such an expert level application of these tools has blown my mind. Brilliant!! 👏👏👏
@@Texturelabs having surveyed thousands of RU-vid comments, I’ve concluded that the perfect tutorial length is Schrodinger’s tutorial that is both long and explanatory and short and to the point all at the same time.
You ALWAYS deliver more than I am expecting from each video. Damn! Congrats, you're actually awesome. I didn't knew anything new, per si, meaning that I knew pretty much everything you mentioned here since I'm a communication designer and also an instructor, but your delivery, man, simply awesome. Congrats and keep them coming! Cheers from Portugal!
So happy and stoked for this one! Illustrator is my bag baby! I also feel it's power is neglected a lot so THANK YOU for a great tutorial as always and a chance to expand my Illustrator knowledge.
Your channel is gold! The knowledge, the delivery, the tempo.. always squeezing more from the tools while being didactic about it! Thank you for your service! Any chance we are going to get you messing around some open-source tools, like krita or inkscape? I think some of your methods could translate nicely into FLOSS territory!
This sort of stuff is really great in Affinity Designer too (and the redraw is much better and faster/realtime in AD which made me move to it for this type of vector AND bitmap art). I still miss Creature House Expression from years back with its skeletal strokes (and their Livingcels animation software based on the same tech which only made it to beta) Art stroke imports (and use) into AE would be a great addition to AE but Affinity Designer and Illustrator do a pretty good modern job of Creature House Expression on the still/non-animated side.
Hey Brady, love your work! Can you save the file with the brushes with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option turned on, so I can try to use in other software please??
@@Texturelabs you can't "place" because art brushes can't be made from linked images. So you have to file>open the image instead and drag it into your brush panel that way.
i have made multiple typography projects using this same technique but i always made my own brushes using black brush stroke images that are converted into shapes by auto tracing them.never knew we can directly use a png into a brush like that, thats an addition to my knowledge...thanks for sharing... also, we can alter the size of the edges of each stroke using width tool, that helps you to refine your strokes much better and make these more realistic...
Just today I was wondering if we'd ever get an Illustrator tutorial from you and here we are. And it's about a topic I thought about too recently so that's nice.
Awesome... I think it's a testament to Illustrator being well-designed that I don't have too many crazy tips... But a few ideas that I'll definitely get into :)
Sometimes I feel a little ridiculous using the mouse - I've worked at studios before where virtually everyone asks "dude, why are you not using a tablet?!"... I think I must have terrible form the way I hold a pen, but I should probably fix that :)
i like the way you bring up and teach us about these brush things. i like the way you pitch the idea of experimenting with brush strokes. i wouldn't say you teach us, idk it felt like i was LEARNING with you because your enthusiasm is sooo infectious. love your stuff man
I've used this technique for a while now and have always been frustrated by Ai's performance, but that tip about working at +/-1pt makes a HUGE difference. So thank you again for making my life measurably better, Brady! Sidenote- why haven't they brought this into photoshop?? They even had/have it in Fresco, why not bring it to Ps?
Have you tried using image trace to vectorize the pictures of the brush strokes you took? With the right image trace settings you could get a nice vector version and then use that to create your art brush. Then you will have vector version of the brush that is resolution independent.
Thank you for this tutorial! I've been using illustrator for 10 years, and I'd never though to utilize the brush effects like this. I'm excited to incorporate this into my design immediately.
06:40 How do you copy and paste a PNG image without a white background from Photoshop to Illustrator? I tried it, but it pasted with a white background.
