I don't usually comment, but I wanted to say some things here. First, good job on making a useful video. The umming and slow pace does make it look less professional, but you presented all the relevant info. It is a good video. Two, yes scripts will help, but if you are a heavy procrastinator its better to put a bad video out first, and then work on an improved one to replace it. Three, rather than looking at it as 'one big video', instead see it as a series of scenes. The reason you're a bit nervous talking is because you're trying to keep 15min of dialogue in your head. If you broke it up into 5x 3min scenes, it wouldn't be so stressful. That's how the pros do it. The fact you covered just about everything in a 15min off the cuff video is a testament to your ability. Good luck and I hope you make many more useful videos
MobileDecay - Haha! I see! Still new to this RU-vid thing 😂 And it's a relief that I'm not alone. But thank you for the kind word on the video. Appreciate it!
the best video information on the samsung dex and adapters that i have been looking at for 2 are 3 weeks and have tried out among others and these were my favorite adapters i have the galaxy S8 so thank you very much
@@AIDAVUE very much so after looking at so many ADAPTER HUBS like about 50 i think and by discovering your video so thank you greatly appreciated keep up the good work you are helping people everywhere
I am nervous 2 when i talk face to face or on the phone i never try it in video call at least this guy make a video talk about something, some of us can't make a video just talk or play or something. @AIDAVUE don't worry ur fine enjoy
I have a Note 8 and Dex still turns on with a simple aftermarket $8 USB-C to HDMI adapter I got on Amazon. The adapter does not provide power, but still initiates Dex on my phone. I am able to do the screen mirroring or use it as a computer, but for screen mirroring when I play a RU-vid video for instance (the whole reason I got the adapter), it only plays video and not audio. I know it's not the cord or TV because I've used the same HDMI cord to plug into my computer and play movies from my laptop on my tv, and the audio comes out of the tv as desired when I do that. So I think it's this cheap adapter. Even though it still initiates Dex and displays video, it does not push through the audio.
Great video, thank you so much, I thought my 3rd party adapter wasn't working till I watched your video, I didnt know I had to have the charging cord plugged in
That was extremely informative, i was using my Tab s9 and wondering why i connect HDMI to TV but it keeps on flickering and not displaying image of dex Im using that 3-in-1 dongle, and after plug in usb c for additional power, it finally works smoothly Thanks for saving me a lot of headache, i’ve searched countless number of threads and videos without finding the right answer 😂
Thanks so much for this. I have a desktop but no laptop and I was considering on selling it because I need a laptop at home when I am not in University but now I can just buy a hub because I have a s10. Thanks so much!
@@waleed4018 Correct. But that only works for the Note 10. Unless I'm mistaken, and a software update will allow that feature for older S and Note models.
Thank You ! I was considering the same adapter in the videos because they only have that one in the local store but not sure will it work or not. Now I know, this video helps alot.
Zs Sz - You're welcome, and glad you found the video helpful. Whoa! You're going to love the S10. It's a beast of a phone, and DeX will certainly maximize how you use your phone.
@@bhardwaj3319 - I am unable to confirm at this time as I have an international preproduction S9+ and the Pie update is not available for it. I will inquire with my co-workers who have US based S9 and see if it works for them. Sorry, and thank you.
I actually stumbled onto Samsung Dex by accident. I found a usb c to vga adapter in my stock room and hooked it up to see what happened. I was like "Whaaa? What's Samsung Dex?"
That's awesome, Ryan! Thank you for sharing! Good info. I never really use DeX on tablets, but want to try it out now since I have a Tab S4 from work in my possession.
Thank youuuuu your video really help me... I have note9 and usb hub. At first I only use the hdmi port and TV only show mirroring. I really confuse how to solve this and found this video. It is work when I use hub hdmi port with charging it in usbc port. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
does the Hub allow you to see copyrighted movies ? I have the set up in which I could see the movie on my cell phone but yet I cannot see it on the TV through the Hub I have . what I have is Type C Micro USB to HDMI Cable, Weton MHL to TV HDMI Adapter 1080P HD HDTV Mirroring & Charging Cable, Digital AV Video Adapter for Android Smartphone to TV Projector Monitor 6.6ft
Wow that's a setup. Not really. I've had no problems watching movies through the various apps, and even downloaded ones. Think of it as a desktop version of a Chromebook.
@@AIDAVUE Since I post it my comment I have been thinking about it and I came up with a logical explanation ,it is the cables manufacturer who wants me to join their website and get their services , I think that is why they are blocking certain material without participating in their program and paying them a monthly fee . how do you download off RU-vid ? that would be a good RU-vid to make .
Thank you very much. Very great tips. I bought the hub one you show on note 9. And i also got The galaxy note9 and i didnt knew about the only hdmi option. It will be helpful but i will buy on an 2nd moment. IF the screen mirror only mode be very precise them its fine for me. Thanks
I bought a 6-1 Vivitar hub from Walmart thinking it would work but it wasn't recognized by two of my tvs. I'm using a Note 9 with it. I'm going to go get a straight adapter cable tomorrow. If I may ask, what brand hub is the silver one that you are using?
@@AIDAVUE Cool thanks. I'm actually in Walmart and bought both the Onn male USB-c to female hdmi adapter and the J5 Create straight USB-c to hdmi cable. Here's to hoping one of them works.
I have a Samsung galaxy note 9 I just want to watch my streaming apps on my tv. can I watch Netflix peacock and Hulu on dex? Or do I just use screen mirror to watch shows
Yes, you can do it with DeX, but it would be a wired setup. You mentioned screen mirror. If you want to go that route, I actually suggest Google Chromecast. You can do the same, but it's wireless, you save battery life, and multitask on your phone while streaming.
Nice job with the video I was hoping you would try the note 9 in the Dex station just to make sure it fits I currently have a note 9 it was thinking about purchasing the deck station itself
Carlos Obando - Thank you for watching. Glad it was helpful. Yes, the N9 fits in the DeX Station and will give you extra usb ports, an ethernet port, cooling, and the ability to open more than 5 windows versus using just a generic adapter.
@@AIDAVUE that's good to know. I bought mine from Samsung, so just the device. When the android 9 update came up I avoided to install it as I was reading comments that this made the mobile's performance worse and others had to buy another phone. I am still on android 8 with no issues...
hi thanks for the video... but i need your help i just bought a generic usb-c to hdmi but my samsung galaxy a30 ain't mirroring in my tv .. what could be the problem
Thanks for watching. Interesting question. I know the A30's have the Smart View option to wirelessly mirror to a Smart TV. You can try to select that option while you have it connected to the dongle to see what happens. Only other thing I can think of is that the generic dongle is not compatible. Have you tried the dongle on another phone or tablet? Maybe try a MHL dongle. Hope that helps.
@@joe-yz6sn If in doubt, I would suggest the Samsung DeX Docking Station. It has everything you mentioned. Charging, hdmi, 2 usb ports, and internal fan to keep things cool.
Please help me, I have a monitor with USB C ports and no HDMI port, is there a way to display from HDMI to USB C? Not the other way around, or a separate device?
Im using 3rd party hub it works but now its says monitor or tv can't display samsung dex and sometimes wont initialize dex ive tried on diff monitors still same or it wont work im using galaxy s8
I'm now thinking of buy a Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy note 9 and I was wondering do the Hub brand make a different or any hub that you can powered it will run Samsung Dex??? Please help
It should run. I bought a generic one at Walmart then returned it for a cheaper one from Ebay. If you want to be 100% spend a little extra for the Samsung OEM dock station or cable.
Does it work outside of the OS or after getting into it ? As my phone's screen (Note 8 Exynos) is dead and I have my device encrypted, so will it be able to mirror the Encrypted Password Screen which appears before getting into the OS. Best Wishes!!!
Not sure about encryption screen, but DeX worked when my S8 screen was cracked and no display. Luckily I had the docking station to connect a kb/mouse for navigation on my monitor.
How did you do it? I have windows 10 and a s20 plus phone. Downloaded Samsung Dex in my windows 10. Got myself a type-c to HDMI (direct cord) and connected it to my windows 10 laptop but its not working. not even detecting it on my phone. what do you think is the problem? is it only working on PC and TV?
So it's totally different for PC. Grab your USB-C charge/cable cord and watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V1Hed86xAuQ.html There's also a Link to PC method that I need to do a video for.
@@AIDAVUE my type-c both ends cord also seems not compatible as the windows 10 laptop don't recognize it, although the phone shows samsung dex on notification but it doesn't lead to. Says cord not compatible later on.
@@RenTagaro You need to try a different cord or an official Samsung. They picky, but mine is 3rd party. Just need to make sure the cord is data & charging.
@@AIDAVUE yeah. Got mine from a samsung store. But I guess thats only intended for a smart tv or pc monitor i guess. Maybe I have to find a cheaper from from third party as well . The type-c I'm referring to is the cord from the box with the phone, still not working. I dunno.
For all who are interested in using Samsung DeX. Be careful with what type of dongle (hub) you are about to buy. I bought Verbatim usb C hub. DeX works, but only in HD and FULLHD. HUB supports resolutions up to 4K 30 Hz, but from some weird reason DeX is not compatible with this hub so I can't use higher resolution than FULLHD.
Today I bought original Samsung multiport adapter. Guess what ! It still doesnt allow me to choose higher resolution than FULLHD.. I tried it with my Galaxy S10 running on Android 10. But I have also Galaxy TAB S5E which still has Android 9. To my suprise Galaxzy TAB automatically selected UWFHD which is correct resolution of my monitor. I dont understand why it doesnt work with S10 but it works as it should with galaxy TAB.
Yes the hub works with the S8, but I'm not sure about non-fast charger. I have a bunch of Samsung phone chargers, so I never tried a different plug. I'll test, and get back to you.
@@pok_zero So I tried the silver hub with an iPhone plug and it works. Unfortunately, the black Samsung docking station does not. I assume it needs the extra power since the dock has a fan for cooling, and two USB ports for keyboard and mouse.
Thanks for viewing. It could be a number of issues. Easy checks are to make sure all connections are secure, monitor set on correct input, if adapter has power then connect it, and finally, wait a few moments longer for DeX to load. Also, you can try making sure your phone's software update. It could also come down to bad adapter, or hdmi cord. Hope that helps.
New to all this DeX stuff but if for instance I have a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, would the combo still work if I were to plug it in my monitor or does the combo need to be plugged in a DeX station/pad or HDMI hub adapter? (S9, Android 9.0, One UI 1.0)
Clark GP - The official Samsung DeX Hub will work with your with your KB/mouse combo. The silver adapter in the video with the extra usb port I am unsure of. I speculate it will not, only b/c the usb port might not provide enough power for a wireless combo. Hope that helps.
Screen repairs will likely cost the most b/c of the curved screens. Other repairs should be affordable. Good thing is if your phone is cracked, DeX will still work.
@@AIDAVUE true. even back when it was launched. but any idea about the costs gone down Now? thank you Dex: i suppose its plug and play. but would need a USB hub to connect Mouse/KB ( If not bluetooth. mine ARE ). n hopefully does not require a manual trigger from device to activate those. Now m wondering ab using pen drives, exHDD, when the screen is broken. lol
You forgot to mention that the hub is a slow charger not a rapid charger, it lacks pass-through capabilities. The phone will drain, while playing apps, faster than it charge.
DeX Screen TouchPad mode only works when phone is connected to a hdmi monitor or TV. DeX for PC, you will be using your computer's mouse or laptop's touchpad or connected mouse.
Good question. Not sure, but leaning towards, yes. I had a S8 with broken screen hooked up to a monitor soley for using DeX. I could log in, BUT I was using KB & mouse.
Thank you for sharing. I would think the Lite would support it since it's an S-series, but I guess not. Maybe in a future update they will add it like the first Fold. I'm still waiting for DeX on my ZFlip. Lol
Sorry, Ishaq. DeX is a Samsung feature on their devices, and would not work with the y9. You may be able to screen mirror or cast if the y9 has those features, but I cannot guarantee.
is there any way to connect keyboard and mouse to usb-c to hdmi adapter with power connector? I mean if I connect additional usb-hub with keyboard and mouse to usb port of that usb-c to hdmi adapter, will i get Dex with keyboard and mouse working with no problem?
adam balaja - I would use the silver adapter in video for that purpose since it has a usb A 3.0 port for peripherals, and a usb C female power input. ***fyi: The usb A 3.0 will not provide power to peripherals except kb/mouse, usb flash drives).***
I bought a new hdmi cord and a new type c to HDMI adapter to use on my note 9 and the display pops up but like 30 sec later it says no signal. I'm just wondering why , if anyone can help.
Hi Aidavue! As you know after android 10 update this has changed a lot. I have s9+ so have you tried after the update? After android 10 I started using dex daily on my laptop in order to not to switch back and forth between PC and Phone with charging cable. But I'm facing with some connectivity issue so I thought better if I get a USB type C to HDMI cable. But the question in my mind that if I get that cable will I be able to use dex on any screen as well? If the answer is no I will go for hub option. Please help me OUT =))
Thank you for commenting, Abdullah. Yes, DeX for PC has been acting weird after the new update. Right now, I'm using the Note 10+ & S20+ and they do work with the cable. But it has been brought to my attention, the max resolution for cable is 1080p I do not have a S9 anymore, so I cannot comment. My personal is a S8+ which I keep updated, and DeX works fine with cable and plug. Thanks!
I have the S9 and I can get DeX to start up the exact same screen shows up as it did when you hooked yours up the first time. How do I hit the ok button to continue??? Please help aha I like it better than the screen mirroring but cant move past that point.
The Samsung OEM cable if you want 100% compatibility. All other 3rd party cables are pretty much the same. Hit or miss, but much cheaper. If you go 3rd party, make sure you can return item if it doesn't work.
I am probably a big dummy but I have the while HDMI to type c adapter and I don't know how to get rid of the screen that comes on as soon as I hook it up it a screen about making sure the screen is right and at the bottom it says do not show this again my phone comes on the TV but I can't do anything because I can't get rid of the don't show this message again screen please help
Justice Williams - First, thank you for watching. Without knowing which phone you have, I can only give a generic answer. Try to make sure your phone is updated to latest Android software.
Is there an option for screen mirroring from the phone's drop down menu when you get the black screen? Also, does the hub have a power port? It may need power like the silver hub in the video.
@@AIDAVUE that was my thought about power. I got mine from a guy off Facebook who said he's sold over 100 of em and I'm the first it didn't work with. Tried like 4 hdmis 2 different phones(galaxy s10 and a note 10+) guy says he tested em all even tried 2 tvs. Got a refund and he let me keep the hub and said it'll work on another TV. Ended up just buying a chrome cast sadly.
So I have an hdmi adapter and a galaxy s8. I tried connecting to my TV. It connected and I saw my phone screen on my TV, but then almost instantly it disconnected and then reconnected and kept doing this while the adapter was connected to my phone. Am I doing something wrong? Does my TV not support this??
Your TV should support it, since DeX works with anything w/ a HDMI input. I would check hardware first (loose connections, loose ports, different cable, adapter might be going out, etc.) Second would be to update your S8's software. Hope that helps and good luck.
Unfortunately the Tab S3 does not have Samsung DeX feature. You will only be able to use the cable to screen mirror the tablet to projector. You can use the SmartView feature located from the drop down menu from notification bar. Or you can do it by downloading Google Home, then use its casting feature, but will need Chromecast dongle connected to projector.
I'm using the same hub as used in this video however the display seems to have a lot of noise. I'm sure its not the monitor itself or the cable as it comes out fine with other devices like my Xbox 360. Any fixes?
Hi Eduardo, thanks for viewing. There maybe a bit of confusion. Those adapters will work on HDMI monitors and TVs, but not on a Mac book. There's is a feature called DeX for PC, which you can download the client software on your Mac. Then use a regular USB-A to USB-C cord, to connect. Hope that clears things up a bit.
@@eduardoherrera1974 Even better if you have a Windows 10 PC. Download DeX for PC software, use your charging cable to connect your Samsung phone to computer. Then you will have DeX on your computer monitor. Only buy the adapter if you want to use it on a HDMI TV or monitor.
Hi! Thank you for Your video it's really helpful! I've tried to connect my s8 to benq m525 but failed. I had the white USBc to hdmi but was able to return it and get the grey one ( I got the j5 4k@30hz) but I've not succeed at all. Do I need to get the 4k@60hz? I'm thinking the problem is with my greyed "very apps via usb" in the developer settings when I turn on usb debugging. Do you think that's the case and how can I go about it.
Hey! Thanks for watching. I had the same problem with my S8+. But after I did all the updates to Andriod 9.0 and One UI 1.0, I'm able to to use a generic usb-C to HDMI similar to the white one in video. Hope that helps!
I will help BOTH of you there was a video i saw about 2 weeks ago and was about what was demonstrated here and it was the CHOETECH 9 in 1 MULTIPORT USB C ADAPTER CHOETECH has a youtube channel look it up and also on the TV BOX STOP RU-vid channel
Yeah I've tried the j5 before on the S7 with no luck. Best wired solution for micro usb devices is screen mirror with MHL cable or Chromecast for the wireless route.
rafael damian - Thank you! I looked up that brand, and most have a hdmi port. So you can use any of adapters for Samsung phone. Which phone do you have?
Hey I hope you can help me. I have the silver adapter. Sometimes it works like a charm but sometimes it shows like is not connecting with the TV. I do have a Vizio smart TV but haven't been able to figure out how to screen mirror so I don't have to use an HDMI cable. I am ok with connecting it through the HDMI but my issue is that sometimes it works but sometimes it stops working and it "disconnects" and I'm not able to re connect.
I would check hardware first (different hdmi cable, adapter, usb-c port loose, etc.) since you said it sometimes works. If still no, second I would update your phone's software and see if that sovles it. Plus the new Samsung One UI and newer Android OS has "Smart View" feature from the phone's pulldown menu. Once it's enabled, you just have to find the screen mirror option on your Vizio. Then you can go cable less. Try looking for "mirrorcast" or something similar on the TV. Hope that helps and good luck!
@Joe G Unfortunately yes and no. DeX takes a lot of processing power, so Samsung usually makes it available on their S and Note series phones. As for tablets, DeX is on the Tab S4, and Tab S6. IDK why they do this, but if DeX works on my GS8+, some of these newer phones, and tablets are way more powerful and should be able to handle it. It stinks IMHO.
@@AIDAVUE just went to samsung page looked up Dex, did not mention type of tablet or anything it/ the questions told me that it does with instructions on how to activate it.
