1+Z or the upcoming pixel 4a . If these fall under your definition of low cost phone ! Loved the review , keep up the good work. Stay Home & Stay Safe ✌️
I own this phone for months and the ring around the camera hole never ever distracted me, in fact I was not awere of it until now :-). I think this phone has brilliant screen, good battery life and acceptable camera. In fact most of the people will find camera awesome, because most of the "normal" people does not counting pixels and artifacts of magnified photos, they just look photos and say "it looks good", and these people are the exact target audience of this phone. If you are a prosumer photographer and expect top-class performance from the camera, you will be definately disappointed by the performance. But you may pay 600+ more dollars and get an S series or iPhone or Huawei P series, and have 0.17 second less shutter lag, if you think if it worths. I don't think it worths. I think this review points right issues, but also tries to downgrade the phones value with some "techie" or "apple" bias. This phone is a joy to use device in its price category and better than an iPhone SE second generation in many ways. Samsung nailed it and selling millions of this phone, while Apple just waited years for releasing an acceptable value Phone until new SE. Good work Samsung!
@@frds5811 Yes, especially camera is not very responsive. Also fingerprint reader is not very fast. But for day to day use I am very happy with this phone.
@@frds5811 Yes, I am an old Android user :-). Generally lifespan is 2 or 3 years but I want to use my phones as long as possible for creating less technological junk. So I try to skip at least 1 generation, or most likely 2 generations. I used following Android phones as far as I remember :-); HTC Hero, Sony Xperia MT11i, LG Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy S7. And, why you are asking?
This dude literally said a battery that lasts more than a day is "ok", do u want it to last a week 😂, u can tell he is trying to make the Samsung look bad.
A super AMOLED FHD+ display is 'good' for The Verge but an IPS LCD of IPhone SE is "great". Also battery lasts a day on A51 but only 3-4 freakin hours on the iPhone SE. Hypocrisy?! 🤨🙄🙄
I've got the 6GB RAM, 128 GB version and this review doesn't do this justice. He's trying to review it in comparison with flagships worth 3x it's price. 1 more thing is I bought it a few months ago when it was undervalued at $250 dollars, there's definitely a reason why they increased, doubled, the price.
This phone is good enough for 99% of people I don’t really think that this video is playing too fair with the phone, I mean it ain’t 2 bazillion bucks man
It's still 400, the Pixel 3a is 1 year old and still performs much better than this new phone. Apart from the screen and battery life, everything is better on the pixel.
@@badhrihari1705 the 3a has great haptics (flagship level), great dual speakers, instant updates, great camera (flagship level). And it never feels laggy as the Samsung does. I mean the only reason to choose the Samsung at that price point is because you want a Samsung. The pixel 3a is better in many ways, if you just want a good screen and battery, honestly Xiaomi does great things at lower prices.
Before the release I was excited to here thay it will be at $399 which is equivalent here in the Philippines to 20,341 pesos. But after its release I checked Apple's website and it retails for 26,000+ pesos, rougly $500+.
Let's get this straight: This phone is 40% or less the price of a flagship yet you're getting like 65-70% of the features of a top notch device. Seems to me you're expecting a bit too much
Bro see the competition though, there r 400$ phones that have camera better than ultra, other that have flagship spec's. This has nothing special about it
It's really bad if you look at its competitors. I have an iphone 8 and it unlocks instantly after I put my finger on it. The iphone SE2 is only going to be better. There are also other in-screen sensors that work way better than this one.
True, Huawei and Samsung basically own the mid range market right now here in SA. Hope someday we can buy Pixel phones and Oneplus phones through our carriers.
I don't like this dude ,for real , been a verge fan ever since they started This kind of reviewers puts the whole company on the apple biased side Which is not professional at all Dieter are you aware that this is better storage better screen futuristic look fast charging multiple cameras For the same price as the revised iphone 6 from apple (I mean iphone se )
I don't get it either TBH I look at all the phone reviews, see their camera samples....and I think, "You could swap any of the pictures and the phones that took them and I honestly couldn't tell the difference"
I have to point out that I have anywhere from 7 or 8 actual DSLR cameras from Pentax, Sony, three Samsungs, some Nikon P series as well as lenses, gimbals, tripods and all that. I'm not even a professional photographer, I just like taking great pictures of stuff. I have never once picked up a phone because it apparently has an excellent camera And if I showed you all the pictures I've taken with all those phones over time and dared you to point out what took what, I'd give you all my camera gear for free if you guessed anywhere near 20% accurately
This review really disappointed me. He only showed the part when the app lagged. I can only say that people should never rely on these reviews when making a purchase but rather try the phones in markets for themselves to decide.
Im happy Verge reviewed this. Does the A51 really cost $400 in the US though? It's much cheaper internationally, where it's been out for a while now. Here in Ghana, it's selling for the equivalent of $290.
Depends on how you get it. Some third-party retailers are already dropping the price (shows as $299 USD on Amazon right now with a legit prime shipper), but in the US most people get their phones from their carriers who will charge the full $400 over a payment plan. For the average American it's not a good deal unless you buy it out right.
@@Anonymous-uw4sr actually yeah sometimes. Not 100% smooth everytime for a few apps. But few days ago I got One UI 3 android 11 update and quite improved its performance
@@Anonymous-uw4sr I simply love it tbh. I gets the job done and I got what I need in a phone. (Oh and I actually like One UI). But keep in mind that I have never used a flagship-super high-end phones since I chose not to spend tons of money for a phone (I'm not rich lol)
This space has been interesting for a while now, most of the cellphone manufacturers move something at this price point. It's just hasn't Apple's thing in a while, and iPhone SE 2gen is not a bad attempt at this price point... just it's much more cut throat than I think the company will be expecting.
@@ryanmahuze76 What has been clear to me for a while now is that the $1000+ USD phone is a dead end.... That isn't high-end to most people that is unapproachable.
Orhh Verge... 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ as usual. - The screen is definitely AWESOME for a 300-400$ dollars phone, a super amoled screen by Samsung is much better than the LCD in the iPhone 11 for example 😂 - It has 4 CAMERAS ! 4 !!! It can produce wide angle, macro, zoom, and normal. And they're good. Can an iPhone SE or a Pixel do that ???! 🤦🏻♂️ - Battery life is much better than both a Pixel 3a or a iPhone SE 😂
You could say the same about the iphone se 2020. But your review of that handset way more favourable. Give android phones a fair shake and slow down on the apple bias
I think you should NOT review low-cost phones... we all know it is a cheap phone then why you need to mention it 1000 times and make other people feel that you are a super-rich guy who only uses flagship phones and forced to review a low-cost phone...
Well that's the entire story with Samsung's A and M series. They are leveraging their awesome screens quality to attract users to a smartphone with average camera quality and performance.
I know but then I think about all the idiots who spend way too much on a phone and then can't do anything else in life, than sit on their phones and stare at other people living their life actually doing fun things. Besides, it's just a phone, I honestly feel completely fine spending $300 on my cell :)
Don’t see the point in these mid tier models. Might as well get last years flagship S10/Plus for the same price (350). Better camera, screen and performance than the A series. No brainer.
Man, Dieter never disappoints, does he? This was such a well balanced review, which held the phone to itself instead of making constant back-and-forth comparisons to the iPhone SE.
HH always have. They’re the catalyst and genesis of the smartphone industry as it is today, they made the push for wireless audio, they introduced face unlock (or at least did it really well when first made), the notch design which I actually tbh think has grown on me, looks cool af, everybody started to do that too. They’re the ones leading, so they always have that “target” on their backs. A lot of the haters will hate b/c that is fact right there. When you’re at the top you will always get hate and criticize. This is true in everything. Sports, celebs, everything! Apple does everything really well. They don’t have as many features as Android ofc (but most don’t need all that. Lots of the features are gimmicks anyway like swiping your hand above a screen to scroll to the next page...). They got the great battery, great camera, smooth UI, great interface with other of their products, good enough screen. I’d like to see a slight resolution boost but not needed so much cuz more res will drain battery and on a phone you truly cannot discern difference in res as easily. Hence a test from Austin the XR bested true 1080p displays from androids
@@mh0Ang95 dude the level of praise you have for apple🤯 you literally made an essay in the comment section🤣 you should be the president of your fanbase.
Matt Hoang And I don’t think they’re getting hate just for being on top like these’s no justification for deliberately slowing down phones to make people upgrade - that’s not PUSHING the industry forward
It's NOT a $400 phone, I just bought it for around $310 and for that price it's a really good buy, screen is fantastic, cameras are pretty good and battery life is also amazing, the processor also gets the job done.
Awesome phone. Had the A50 and loved it, this is just a bump better. Awesome screen. Awesome battery, good camera. Its perfect for media consumption. I got mine at Walmart during a promo for $199!! Super pleased all around...
@@subdivisionseghouane8274 it is not lagging, its really good, and i love the screen. in my opinion a51 has a better design and is newer, so i got it, a70 has bigger display, better procesor and a faster charging, so if youre a gamer, maybe a70, but for me, a51 everyday use after 2 months it's really good.
3 times the battery life on the iPhone SE 2. And for the camera, Google Camera Mod solves all the issues. It gives you pixel-like photos when you install it
@@vervetech9395 what about wireless charging,ip rating,a13 bionic, better cameras than any other midrange, stereo speakers?? Not all the people like big phones like u unless you are a fandroid.Btw i am an android user but for 400$ i can ignore screen and battery life just for those other flagship features.
@@prashantmankarmacharya Official IP68 is the only big deal though others have tested it under water and it passed. A13? I bet most users aren't even going to take advantage of half of those benchmark numbers.
Not everyone want an iPhone or a small phone with huge bessels. Even women are leaning away nowadays. iPhone SE 2 is great but the size and iOS is not enough to make android users switch as much Apple anticipated.
Let's do a prize comparison for iPhone SE 2020 and Samsung Galaxy A51. In US both these phone cost around 400$ which is made clear in this video. But the Crazy thing is when it comes to India A51 is 25,999 Rupees(345$) but iPhone SE costs 42,500 Rupees (560$) which makes this comparison in my region totally crazy.
This is not a 400$ phone. There's a ton of better phones than this one for $250, $300 and $400 with less compromises. It would be amazing to see you review more brands instead of only Apple, Samsung, OnePlus and Pixel.
I have this phone, I've been using it for a couple of months now, and I don't see why everyone's leaping to its defence in the comments. As far as I can tell, this was a very fair review. I've never had a high-end phone, but I'm still irritated by the poor fingerprint reader and the lack of processing power - a brand-new phone should be able to handle Spotify, but this one struggles. The screen is indeed great, and the cameras are fine, but this does nonetheless feel like a budget phone - because it is. It's a pretty good one, as they go, but I'd rather have the Pixel 3A or iPhone SE (I didn't buy the Samsung myself, a friend had it and didn't want it).
Please be more detailed in your critique of photos, I really liked the look of some those photos and didn't understand why they were bad in your opinion x
Commenting on this from my 2017 Galaxy A5 which is still performing awesomely, and looking at the gripes he has I don't really think i wouldn't buy the A51. It's a good looking phone, with a great screen which is the main thing you look at, I almost don't use the front camera, rear always on pro mode, a one second screen unlock is way way way less time than what I waste looking at stuff I shouldn't on the phone and lastly, I think that battery life might be awesome specially given how I like to use my phones (dark themes, no always on display, no heavy games, no hours and hours on videos)
These reviewers will bash it like anything. Pixel 3 & 4 got hate like anything for those tiny bezels. Agreed they're flagships but even for 3a some reviewers wanted edge to edge display as that was the market trend but Apple gets a pass. These reviewers conveniently ignore the shortcomings of SE despite its excellent A13 chip (Terrible screen and poor battery life)
I'm commenting on this video on a Galaxy S6 which has not yet failed me. I've just ordered the A51, do you think it will last me five years like this one?
Okay slow ya roll. First off stop comparing it to a flagship we know it's compromised, get over it. Secondly how about showing some of the stuff that it does different? "The camera isnt so great but what you do get is xyz" The pixel 3a has a great camera and that's it according to your judgement and Apple can do what they do cos all there phones are exactly the same. I just want some positivity 😭
The thing is, the A51 in Asia is priced aggressively here; the phone is almost half the price of the SE 2020 at equivalent memory configurations (the 128 gb A51 retails for 260 dollars while the the 128 gb SE is priced at almost 500 dollars). Yes yes the ecosystem and the A13 Bionic but if you're just searching fora phone to browse Facebook and watch cat videos in RU-vid, and just want a reliable phone you can't go wrong with the A51
Apple and Samsung make different choices when going to mid-range, and for me, I would always choose the higher performance SoC rather than a pretty display, but each to their own and of course it depends how long you keep your phone. My phones are looked after and passed down so better performance is essential. The A51 will be fine if like an iPhone SE you do not push it, but long-term future-proofing, not a good choice. Personally, in the UK you can get an S10e for not much more (new) as the advantage with Samsung flagships is that they freefall in price over time. I saw the Fold going for around half-price already secondhand (no takers), after 3-4 months?!? I would unlikely choose a Samsung mid-range, as in Europe, we have some fantastic choices (not a restricted market as in the US) and the ROG Phone 2 is about the same price! Not a hard choice there! So, the A51 is a hard buy and more for Samsung fans.
A51 is decent actually but it's def way overpriced in US. In my place, it cost less than $300 and at same price as SE, can get S10 lite or S10e, way better phone. The situation seems similar as your place UK hahah :D
Can never understand these so called 'reviews'. It's a $400 phone, there will be compromises. Hey, those are said by the reviewer, and yet he whines and whines and whines and whines. Don't you realise the concept of 'good enough'? It's a $400 phone! Quit whining! And you tech reviewers make it sounds as if 'cheap' is sin.
You're not "awesome" when it comes to reviewing budget phones you're used to 1000$+ flagships People who would consider this device would compare it to their similarly priced 2-3 year old phone and budget phones weren't great at that time
