Fantastic review! I took delivery on the Gear S3 Frontier this week and am absolutely in love with it. I got along okay with my Lemfo Q1 but the battery life on it was dismal. doing much more than steps and time display quickly drained the battery. I understand that this is an issue on a lot of the Chinese knock-off watches. The Gear S3, even when worked hard, will give you at least two days of battery life and most times it appears it will give closer to three of more days. I paired mine with a Note 5 and they work seamlessly together. Thanks again for the great review.
JohnS thanks for the kind words, I'm still loving the S3, but I'm interested to see how my Moto 2nd edition works when Android wear 2.0 is released in a few days... it would be nice to be able to use both watches as they look so different... we shall see....
WOW!!! You answered all my questions, but no Twitte? : ( I do Twitter alto. But if I'm out and about I can still pull out my phone .And no G mail? That's a bummer also, its just S mail right? Being able to keep a record of working out instead of having to write it down in a book and getting calories counted, and the amount of waters I drink is crazy! Michele Conley s mail app, but you can respond to gmail notifications from the watch... Twiiter notifications but on my watch at least i cant currently respond. I'm sure a future update will take care of that though
Great review! I have the Classic and I wore it every day for a week but I haven't worn it for work yet because it looks ridiculous with a smart shirt. My proper watch is an Omega Speedmaster and I'm wearing it again and not missing my S3 at all. I can't see me wearing it again at the moment but I'm watching RU-vid videos in an attempt to make me want to wear it.
The worst part about owning a Gear s3 is the very low actual compatibility with any Android device, and the whole having to be locked to Samsung's services. And if you WERE to pair it with an other Android device that doesn't have Samsung's apps, you would have to download AND install like 3 or 5 apps to pair it with that phone. But I don't mind, as my main phone with data is a Samsung Galaxy device. And I don't use it with my Axon 7 or LG devices. BUT, if I want full functionality, I would have to use either Samsung's official messaging app, Google Hangouts, or other really popular but lacking messaging apps. And, if I were to use it with a different phone I would have to reset my apps and watch faces. Thankfully, I don't foresee upgrading anytime soon... Well, at least until about a week after the Galaxy S8 releases.
Great review and teamwork! Finally a smartwatch that is getting there. Would be fun to see how much one can tweek out of the battery, with more stuff turned off, just for comparison. Drewling for the Gear S3, so waiting for a price drop of 30-50%, since it is too high prised for a two day watch, just my five cents... ;-)

I like this one very much, but I prefer the classic version's style... unfortunately, that one doesn't have LTE connection. Not that it would make difference here in Brazil - our phone providers don't support e-SIM technology yet... I hope this would change soon although.
Great review. I like radio dramas as well. Maybe it's a Canadian thing. We do seem to get short shrift on products compared to the US, and those shipping charges! It's a great looking watch though, and loads of features. Water resistance would have made it perfect. Do you use it with bluetooth headphones?
John Matthias thanks very much... I use it with my aftershokz 2's bone conduction bluetooth headphones and the onboard speaker as well... Depends where I am and the level of background noise. By the way, you can't swim with it but it is ip68 so under 1 meter for 30 minutes is fine ;) oh, ya, one last thing... If you buy from B&G in New York then shipping is free.
Morry, excellent review! I've just counted the coins in the loose change bowl but sadly not enough to get an S3 yet! Could you tell me whether the S3 has an option to disable incoming calls but still maintain bluetooth connection for all other functions? I have a "slightly" cheaper No 1 G6 tethering watch which can only be call disabled by switching off bluetooth on the phone or watch.
Anton Varga thanks, to answer your question, there is an incoming call app that you can un select in the app manager section of the phone app. So no calls to the watch if you don't want them ;)

1945herb the frontier version in the USA is available from At&t and Verizon I believe (I'm Canadian, so don't quote me on the providers;) and uses an e-sim, it's kind of like a virtual sim card that needs to be setup by your participating phone provider.

Louis Jimenez Jr. simple, single press the right bottom button, select recent apps and kill all or only what you want... of course I have never seen the watch slow down regardless of how many apps are open

Fojum no where near as much as the fruit watch or android wear, but what it does, it does soooooo much better. It has apps for everything you need. So basically you wont spend your life looking through the app store for useless apps that the fruit and android wear offers that you will indtall and then never use;)
I thought the same lol :) Only like maps, Spotify, and like a couple of games would be enough. You wont need like all the games on the app store and an app telling you how to turn on your tv and water a plant
Fojum Hahaha, those other companies think it's an advantage to have a massive app store, and all the so called reviewers say that it is the gear s3s biggest problem... But the only one who benefits from a big app store is the fruit and google, especially the fruit who make getting a refund impossible :)
Hello sir, im from the phikippines and there is no LTE version here of the gear s3. I just want to ask you one thing about the version with wifi and BT. In wifi, in case you left you phone in your house and it was connected in your home wifi, and you have with you your s3 at your friends house with your s3 connected to your friends wifi. Will it still work that you can receive calls and mesafes and other notifications even if your phone and s3 is connected with different wifi? I hope you can answer my question. Samer Rasheed Mohammed just rotate the bezel from the keyboard, it will give you all options including handwriting... hint ... look for a world icon and give it a sec :)

Much better. Between these two, the D5+ has better build quality, access to many more custom watch faces if you want to download them, and good reviews. The KW88 has a larger and brighter screen and includes a camera. They are both good watches so ask yourself: Do you need/want a small camera on your watch? Do you plan on playing with lots of watch faces? Do you like the looks of one over the other when you see the videos? For me, I like the size of the KW88 screen, but I like the features and watch faces of the D5+, so I would choose the X5 plus from FINOW. Much like the D5+ in function but with KW88 screen. I don't use a camera in a watch. The quality is too low. If price were important, I would choose the FINOW Q3 plus. It's like the X5 plus but with only one button instead of three. I have the bluetooth version which I use with an LG G6 phone. All works great except the watch did not come with an email app. I have looked for an app in Gear but to no avail. Is there a solution?

Since you say you need to pair itwith your phone I assume you mean answer and place calls from your watch using the SIM in your phone rather than putting a new SIM with a separate phone number in your watch. Good review, but when you said this watch isn't as powerful as the other smart watches, that's entirely false. The Exynos 7270 is faster and significantly more efficient at 14NM Process where as the competitor's SD 2100 is 28NM Ancient process which the LG Sport has among most other Android smartwatches which is considerably slower and far less power efficient than three Gear S3 Exynos 7270.
SmartWatch Ticks you are both far too kind, I mean I forgot to even mention wireless charging ;!), of course that was probably because of the great battery life for a smartwatch ;)
I don't actually have this watch, so I don't have experience with individual Wear watch apps. I'd suggest that you look into downloading the app WatchMaker and paying for the upgrade. Not only can you download thousands of quality faces, but you can design your own (and I've got tutorial videos on doing that). These are Android Wear faces that will run on this watch.
Andrew Willner CIBC in Canada is beta testing with visa cards only for the time being. However in order to use samsung pay on the watch you will need to buy your watch from a USA retailer like B&H as the Canadian version of the watch is not likely to get the software for at least another 6 months from what I'm told. You can use it (visa from cibc) on your s7 or s7 edge now in Canada though

Diogo Montes the moto 360 2nd gen or pretty much any android wear will allow you to view and answer your email from your watch... At least short replies... At least that is my understanding. Of course the apple watch is probably the best for use with an iphone. You can probably get a good deal on a first gen on ebay. Remember that your outlook will have to be on your phone in order for it to show up on your watch.
Hey eveyone, I just wanted to post a quick update for those of you who own an iPhone but like me tbought the apple watch was errrr (be nice) boxy and unattractive... There is now an official and super functional app in the apple app store so you to can actually use the gear s3 for yourself! You finally have a choice when it comes to smartwatches (android wear is severely limited on IOS) and the gear s3 is not... Enjoy ;!)
What? Is this Planet Earth? I thought Samsung watches ONLY worked with Samsung phones. Now, not only is it opened up to other phones, but APPLE phones as well? And not some token app, but a full fledged working app? That's as likely of ever happening as Donald Trump becoming President of the USA. Yea, right.
Luc Bouillon | Century 21 Hi Luc, actually its pretty easy, here are the steps (and yes, it works for tapping or swiping ;) 1) buy your watch in the USA (I got mine at B&H Photo in New York with free shipping) 2) follow all of the instructions from the gear S3 app on your Android phone (I have a galaxy S7 Edge, I don't know if that matters), it will show up in the app if the watch is from the USA. 3) enter your real mailing address but when you get to the part where it asks for you postal code enter the numbers in your postal code (3 of them) and add/finish with a 1 and a 2 (you may need to play around with different number combinations as a zip in the USA is 5 numbers). 4) after you submit it and it goes through (it might take a few tries) it will tell you to look for a code in an email from CIBC, put the code in the appropriate area and you will be good to go. Note that you may get asked to sign the receipt in some stores/restaurants/gas stations. And note that it currently only works with some CIBC credit cards (you may need to call and ask them which cards are supported as it does already work in Canada on the S7 and S7 edge phones), not yet with debit cards. Also note that you will likely surprise a whole lot of people ;) One last note, even if you have allready setup Samsung Pay on your phone, you will needto do it again on the watch, it will not automatically migrate over ;(

Drone Image even in the USA you can't insert a sim card... it uses something called a virtual sim and must be purchased from a provider so they can activate it.

Tom Riddell Hey. I can only assume if you could afford a gear s3, that you would be able to afford just about any watch. And, I would love to recommend you get it, like I did, if you are going to want Android wear 2.0, the first watches to get it will be the pixel devices from Google, like their own watches, but all other flagship watches will get it, and one of the watches I recommend, is the Asus ZenWatch 2. It has one more button than the gear s3, and has a sweet build for the money.
messaging when connected to a oneplus 3 is awful. can't send new text or whatsapp messages using voice command, can only reply. not an issue on android wear. will be taking mine for a refund

Morry Zelcovitch if I had a Samsung phone then this watch would no doubt be fantastic BUT this is not fully compatible with non-Samsung android phones (which Samsung did not advertise on their site until about 2 months ago). And on android wear, the lack of Gear S3 level hardware is killing the platform. Look at what Samsung has accomplished, compared to the LG Watch and Huawei's Watch 2

I bought KW88 and LF16 and kept the LF16.. gave the KW away. I like the LF16 better, the camera on the KW88 is pointless and the LF just looks better. It is 100% compatible with all the faces out now and I have 60 installed on it. The RAM is not an issue for me, the 8gb ROM is what matters and it wins easily there. The stock launcher is a battery hog and there are much better ones now. Normal use (power saving mode ON) 12-16 hours / Music or online stuff 2-3 hours
Survival Instincts hahaha, maybe my vision is better than yours... I see the screen as perfectly gorgeous... Don't be fooled by so called resolution numbers, nobody makes an AMOLED screen like Samsung, even the fruit company wants to buy their screens from them for one of their new 8's
I like the bezel feature, but it's overpriced and they still haven't supplied an interchangeable battery. I can afford almost any watch but it's a novelty showpony for me and as to Samsung, yes I have a couple of current Samsung devices (phone & tablet) and they have decent screens. I'm not fooled by resolution 400x400 is sharper. Active matrix technology (AMOLED) is nearly pointless for tiny screens, but it's worth noting the cheaper models I mentioned also use it.
Thanks Survival Instincts! Good to know. Has anybody been pulling together the collection of available faces for the LF16/KW88 class of watches? I'm too ovrwealmed with the FINOW/No.1 class faces to tackle that as well. It would be nice to be able to just post a link and be done with it.
