Upgrading from s22 ultra to get the increased grunt and all day battery from the Snapdragon over the Exynos and flat screen. Unless anything major changes, then probably stick with the s24U for a few years.
about to pre order it tomorrow so I feel you lol, it think I’ll go at least three-four years before switching again if not longer unless they come out with something insane in the next two years.
You'll love it! I switched from an iPhone XS Max to the S23U last year and the difference was staggering. Switching from the A34 would be a huge upgrade! :)
I´ve also ordered the 1TB Version, in Titanium grey. That should bei a good upgrade from my mate 20 pro. Quiet a nice phone, but 4,5 yrs old. Enjoy your new phone.
Thanks for the review! Planning to replace my Note 9 so it should be a pretty big jump in tech for me! Going to sorely miss my rear fingerprint reader, headphone jack, and expandable storage though :")
Fellow Note 9 user as well, and I have the same sentiments. However, I know the upgrade is needed. I was considering just getting the S23 ultra to save some money since it doesn't seem I would miss out too much on the upgrades. Though I also thought, I might as well upgrade to the newest phone considering I'm on a note 9. 😅
Also upgrading from a Note 9. Think we're all gonna be pretty happy. I had tried to upgrade to the S22 Ultra when it released but had to return it because we didn't catch the $60 unlimited data fee tied to Verizons upgrade contract and for the week I had it I definitely enjoyed it. It is a little heavier though so would recommend a lighter case like Spigen Ultra Hybrid. You can also get a headphone dac like the Moondrop Dawn Pro and get the added benefit of your music sounding better.
@hellsfavoritesaltyberserke4724 I recommend getting a USB c dock, they're like $20 and have USB, type c charging, micro, SD card and Ethernet or HDMI :D
What I love about you, Chris, is those brilliant little wise cracks you squeeze in when doing your reviews 😆 Another great Brit showing us a genuine, unbiased review of both phones, rather than a w*nk fest of how great the S24 Ultra is and how crap the S23 Ultra is now. Keep up the brilliant work, Chris 👌🏻
Thanks for another great first look! I have pre-ordered the s24 ultra to replace my s23 ultra, and for the record - I don't wipe my arse with pound notes of any denomination. I use my phones as hand-me-downs to family so that I can have the latest and theoretically greatest. Cheers!
I'm on an S22 Ultra and I'm considering it. This was the 1st generation of phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen chip and battery life is abysmal over 5G. I heard battery life is much better on the S23 & now up to 15% better than that on the S24 Ultra. Also, I like how Samsung brought the flat screen back. The AI features are cool too, I'm sold.
Yeah, I had the S22 Ultra and the battery life wasn't the best. They definitely stepped it up with not only raw performance but battery life on the S23 Ultra, which doesn't always happen together. The S24 Ultra should have even better battery life, which is insane
I actually kinda dissapointed at myself for trading my s23+ for s24 ultra just because of the flat screen reminds me of my love for my old Sony Xperia Z ultra
I think If you have the s23 ultra the move is to wait for Samsung to jack their trade in values up to $1000 in a couple months then do the trade in. If you’re willing to wait longer than that then they will probably have some really good sales like they did on the s23 ultra last year. I got my s23 ultra for $799 on sale with no trade in after it had been out for 6 or 7 months
That's a very prudent approach that I agree with. However, if you want 1tb of storage like I did/do, those phones are typically not available for those sales.
@alonsobrito3926 true indeed. I have cloud backup as well, and you're right it does negate the need for so much space. It will still be nice for me to have a portable physical device that can hold and display all the things I want on it without any connections needed.
I just received my S24 Ultra today, and on top of the washed out colors, the contrast is horrible. In the color palette if you choose the basic colors and then the green over teal, when you apply that palette and go to the previous screen, the colors become indistinguishable from each other, while on my S23 Ultra, the colors are vivid, vibrantly saturated, and perfectly defined. If this is just a software issue, I'll wait a few days to see if Samsung acknowledges the problem and fix it via software update, but if they don't, I will be returning this phone and will keep my S23 Ultra which has no color issues at all.
@@Jaksa69 I returned it days ago, in fact, according to the tracking number, Samsung already received the return, now they have to issue a full refund. I'm keeping my S23ULTRA and I'm buying the OnePlus 12, much better phone than the S24Ultra, and at a fraction of the cost, less than half with the trade in of any eligible device.
I got my preorder in...my mobile operator really has a bang on plan for me...S24 Ultra 512Gb/12Gb Ram in Titanium Grey, 20€/month unlimited internet and calls 4-5G (2 years) and a Xiaomi watch 3 all for 1120€...I'm happy, can't wait to get the beast, my Huawei Mate 20 pro has been good for the last 5 years , but an upgrade is needed 👍
They had an awesome deal for pre-orders this time. Here in UK we got the 1TB for the price of 512GB, we got a £50 off voucher, £400 for trading in your phone depending on the model, free 2x screen protector and vegan leather phone case worth £75! and a free samsung watch 6! Such a great deal!
about speakers i think a s24ultra minimal lack bas, but more clarity (high hz) and more better, but depend of tuned equalizer settings. if -3db settings eq the best sound and bass
Compared my S23 Ultra with S24U in store. Not sure why, but the S23U screams Samsung. The beautiful design I loved for a while now. S24 seems to lack character if you know what I mean.
Curved screens aren't everything. It's a subtle look, no practicality. I'm on the 10, it has the curved screen so I'm not just trying to be a contrarian.
@NYC_Goody These people clearly haven't tried to use an S-Pen with a curved screen. It is about the most frustrating thing to do. Like you said, they're just not practical.
I'm slightly tempted to upgrade from S23U to S24U: - flat screen - brightness - 50Mpix 5x zoom - better night photo - video 4k 120fps - better battery life by 15% - new shiny object But I won't because: - too expensive for what it is, even when returning the S23U - no direct-to-satellite communications - no better bump in battery - still rectangular edges (I understand for the S-pen but at least give 2 more rounded edges at the top) - love the 10x zoom See you next year Samsung
Battery life? The s23u has a degraded battery and is on UI 6. S24u is completely new and is on UI 6.1, which is better for battery life. Actually, UI 5.1 was better than 6. A truly objective test needs to be new s23u vs s24u both on UI 6.1. This will happen once 6.1 releases Q2 2024. Slice it as you wish, if you trade in your perfect s23u, you will have to pay like minimum 400$. Thats like insane, and others need to pay even more
@@ancientslav4863 they've been saying better battery with every update since the s10 probably even before that, but this is the first Samsung I've had. Then months later it's back to being shit. With this being a reoccurring theme for years, why should any reasonable person expect 6.1 to be any different?
I skipped the s23U just because of the curved edge alone, as someone who had the note20U and the s22U and used the pen a lot I hated how the edges made me make a lot of mistakes while writing, it never made sense to have a curved display with a pen.
huge fail...the s23u is the best phone Samsung has ever made...s24u wasn't guaranteed to be as good and here it is and I say its a EASY PASS for me...the s23u is so good and definitely waiting till s25u cause they will do some anniversary version
Evry samsung(or android) flagship phone after view days test(or review) after release is not very good😢😢, give me the 3 month(or more) review and its Become Incredibly fvckin goood🤩🤩 and maybe become the best phone all year.
great vid as always, and im considering to upgrade to the S24 Ultra from my current S20 FE. I also have a question, where do u get your phone wallpapers, they look awesome
That's the upgrade I'm considering also, though the S23 Ultra is still compelling - going to wait to see what kind of price cuts that one gets and for more S24 Ultra battery life/gaming tests from multiple places before I lock my decision in. And my trusty FE, being the 5G Snapdragon version, is still doing a solid job and if I wanted to wait until late this year to upgrade I absolutely could...
@@shinydavidhowell I have got S20FE SD but on Android 13, now no further Android updates making me think about upgrade otherwise I have fallen in love with s20 fe for it's camera and stereo speaker.
Regarding fingerprint sensor on S23. I do have a glass screen protector and I have the sensitivity setting switched on but I don't find it totally reliable. I have 4 fingers registered but it seems to only reliably work with one and even then, there are times/days it won't recognise and I'm forced to enter my PIN.
I have an S24+ with Exynos chipset and an S24 Ultra, with Snapdragon obviously. I have been comparing the cameras and it's crazy how far behind the Ultra is considering it's price. Photos on the S24+ are amazing while the Ultra lacks behind on almost every aspect except zoom. I've even asked many people which pictures they liked better, and they always picked the ones taken with the S24 Plus. I'm really trying to love the Ultra but this is just ridiculous, it's so much more expensive and doesn't feel better
hi.thanks for the comparison...yesterday we pre ordered (me & my wife)...she's upgrading from note 10+ and me from s20 ultra...we hope it's worth the upgrade. 😊
Lucky it didn't distribute the Exynos version in ASP region. They did maintained the iconic design of a note and yes flat screen is more practical for pen support. Features of AI and productivity is what they needed to focus on for next model.
I decided to upgrade, but because I have the S22 Ultra that I have to return to the carrier because I got it with a return credit, and I buy it directly from Samsung because they have the exclusivity of the 1T of storage model and because I was surprised to get a credit of 625 Canadian dollars for my older S21+. I am SO impatient to get it !
My quandry is do i wait on Sony and Xiaomi telephones being released or just play it safe with Samsung. Still using my s21 ultra although i think a switch in brand might be coming. Keep up the good reviews and humour.
The only thing I'm excited for is the flat screen. I was holding onto my Note 20 ultra until there was a true reason for me to upgrade. To finally use the S-pen without the frustration of sliding off the edges is reason enough for me.
I've the S23Ultra I've watched alot of reviews on the S24Ultra and in the UK after trade in and offers it will cost me £750 which is laughable because the upgrades are minor and some of those upgrades are coming to the S23Ultra and by the way I've heard they are thinking of doing a monthly charge for those Al upgrades in the future. Anyway roll on to the S25Ultra
I just want to say that the pricing for the device actually haven't changed in some countries. For example in my country the official price for the half tera storage is 1100 dollars and if you get it with pre order you will have it with a 1050 dollars with official grip case and with a tera version of storage, 2 yrs samsung care + 65watt charger
New gorilla glass is less susceptible to scratching... considering how they usually state how its 10x more resistant (when it really isn't) " less susceptible" must mean its as scratch resistant as blu tac
Even compared to the S21Ultra there isn't really anything extra in this phone why I would consider an upgrade. Now the only thing that makes you buy a new phone after 3 years is the battery life degradation. Of course manufacturers do not make exchangeable batteries anymore.
Can I suggest an upgrade to your channel? Why don't you put a title of what is playing on the devices somewhere in the corner? Some things look very interesting, but I don't know what they are.
I am due an upgrade at end of this year ,from s22 ultra, and I am sorta between S24 Ultra, maybe the new One Plus, a Samsung flip (smaller one) or a Proper flip phone. Like an old fashioned one. Spend less time on social media
Hye, can you compare s23 ultra with S24 Plus? I want to see the difference between exynos 2400 and sd8gen2. The price for them right now is also in the same range right now.
Have they fixed the overprocessing problem with images at 50 or 200mp yet? I had the s23 ultra sold it as i'm getting the s24 plus supposing the exynos chip holds up battery wise and isn't a laggy mess like the old ones but i hate the overprocessing they do it makes photos look really fake it's fine at 12mp but i would like to utilize the 50mp camera more. I do really like the look of the s24 ultra and would love it for the snapdragon chip but i found the s23 ultra just a bit too big and boxy although i got used to it i found it really annoying to carry around it barely fit in any pockets.
Samsungs phones ALWAYS get better with age/updates... the s23 is "maxed out" and the kinks all worked out. The s24 WILL BE the better choice, but expect some hiccups/update fixes in the near future. Dealing with early shortcomings, then having them fixed goes a LONG way to endearing oneself to the love of the gadget. Dealing with the negative for now, will make one appreciate the improvements later. A metaphor for life itself ;-)
The Bezels on the flat screen show a lot more. Looks less premium in my eyes. What costs more to fix flat screen or the curve. To me the curved screen is more premiuem. And the iphone fans used to say a heavier device was more premium than the samsungs lighter phones. Now they both changed there minds. So a lighter phone feels more premium have i been bumped on the head.
Excellent review. I preordered the 1tb ultra last week in Ireland from Samsung website. I am getting €855 ($930/£732) trade in with my s23 ultra 512gb and the free galaxy watch 6 40mm(which i will probably sell on). If i wasn't getting these offers i probably would have held out for the s25.
@@TheenGINeer_089did you get the £50 extra code aswell I rang up and told them about the code and they gave it me and I ordered it came with free watch and accessories only downhill is I missed out on the big offer which was around 470 with trade in and free gifts included and now it came to 565 total but still good offer as getting £200 worth of a watch for free. Can't go wrong on that.
Oh my God, is it possible that you have not updated your S23 device in 7 months!! They added the 2X option to isolate from the July update, but you did not update the device? You are a reviewer and must be credible
I personally don't like it. I'll be sticking with my Sony 1 v. I was actually hoping that it would be worth the upgrade but I was wrong, lol. Just my personal opinion.
Hi I'm thinking about changing my MI11 ultra, but don't know which one is best option buy a refurbished/second hand S23 Ultra or just go to Three and buy a new S24 Ultra? My contract will finish soon...Thx
Hi. I've got an Note 20 Ultra since its release. The whole rear cameras were replaced after a month and last summer the battery blew up like a swelled bladder. I luckily had phone insurance and they sent me a refurbished one. Now, considering what to do. Go for an S24 ultra, wait for an S25 or maybe even a fold 5? I want the best performing phone with excellent cameras. I'm wondering if the s24 is just marginly better that the Note 20 and if I spend €1200, will it be pretty much the same UX as having the Note 20?? 🤔
I'm trading in my s23 ultra mostly because when I traded my last phone in, I couldn't get the 1tb of storage I wanted. With 1tb of storage I won't need an upgrade anytime soon.
My current phone screen is going wonky, so I'm looking to upgrade. Still not sure if i should go for the s23u or the s24u, and if I should get the 256GB or 512GB version 🤔
I bought my s23u few months ago and i was wondering what a better phone can be, till the s24u was released then i realized that i was right 😂, s23u is more than what i need.
I didn't make an upgrade from my S21 Ultra to S22 Ultra because i didn't really see a different and i don't think it was worth it. Then last year S23 Ultra came in and i made an upgrade and didn't regret it. Now Samsung did the same again, Upgrading from the S23Ultra to the S24Ultra is not worth it if your S23Ultra is still new like mine ✌️.
You'll be getting a big update 23 January....the camera should improve.....there was a heck of lot of argument about it in X. BTW you do get double storage if you preorder. And don't be surprised if the delivery for the lesser mortals is pushed back. Meanwhile can we see the S 24 and the S24 plus pretty please Uncle Spurt because at the end of the day the Ultra still looks as if you're carrying your TV around....lmao.
for myself I've found using the 85% charging limit has zero impact on my daily usage. with the exceptionally long battery life now doing this absolutely helps battery longevity but for me as a moderate user, not hard-core, there's no negative trade offs. so to answer your question I'd recommend going with the 85% limitation in settings. that said if your unsure give it a try for a day or two. if you can get through the day without needing to charge and top off your battery then you know you've made the right choice. FYI there are times when i temporarily turn the 85% limit off. when traveling just in case something unexpected crops up? that's about the only time i ever charge to 100% but as said otherwise 85% works great and gives me a bit more piece of mind should i need to hold onto the phone longer than i typically would.
Cool vid. Honestly i don't think it's worth upgrading if u already have an s22 or 23 ultra. Not enough upgrades to justify the price. The AI stuff will be added to older phones later this year. I say it's a pass.
I whant to buy the s24 ultra but i cant make my mind wich one to buy the s23 ultra or the s24 ultra wich one is the best and some pepole told me the s24 ultra comes whit some problems they told it comes whit some green line on it and then the go to change it so yeah thats my problem so wich one is better for gameing and good grafics
