Thanks for the video! I used it to replace my own battery when it swelled the back cover off. A note about about the video: it's not necessary to remove the lower plate or the sim card tray.

Good to know! right now using my S8+ for 4 years and 3 months. I have worked in a -24celcius warehouse. The original battery has had lots of abuse but now after 4 years its time to replace it. When using it drains so fast.

I think its disgusting that companys like Samsung are now reverting to this level of greed by making the consumer hand in their phone to get a replacemnet battery fitted at an unreasonable cost, when older models saimply allowed you pull back plate of and simpily replace the battery
@woorf
@woorf 6 лет назад
Matthew Fraser it all got to do with ip68. Your phone has to be perfectly sealed.. the traditional back cover can't seal your internal components well enough.
@luinks
@luinks 6 лет назад
are you sure gs5 was ip86? old rubber seals could work on a user serviceable back cover but definitely would add a few mm extra, this is not greed as matthew is saying tho, its design choices, as they dont expect you to replace battery in 2 years, they expect you to buy a new phone
@tubehax

Luis are you saying you can swap the battery on their non ip86 phones then?
@na5887

I agree
@blakefuentes7132
@blakefuentes7132 5 лет назад
They do that because by sealing the phone they can add tons of features like water resistance, dust resistance, and other features. Makes the phone last longer and better. Besides it's just a little glue. Unlike apple that deliberately programs their stuff to detect repairs and 3rd party parts and work improperly on purpose. Not to mention they don't release manuals and make updates that make it so that older models stop working. I work in mobile device repairs. Apple products I refuse to repair. They are built with obvious intent to be irreparable and force their customers to buy more.

Does the battery has the same size like s7 edge? If it the same size then I can fit it into my phone.

I see why US Cellular required the phone upgrade to continue services, they saw the dead batteries coming and didn't want to deal with all the replacement batteries coming their way.

Better not to mess with it or you end with trash ....

If your battery is trash, your phones not going to magically be trash after anyhow lol. If you mess up just take it to a local tech shop. Atleast you tried.

@@the.reel.mccoy. best reply. My 9th grade small engines shop teacher told us a story of his sons atari joystick that broke. The family didn't want him to 'break' it. He said what more could he do? It wasn't working anyway... the point of the story and he also stressed, don't be afraid to try something yourself you might surprise yourself, learn yourself, and save yourself (money) probably the most valuable lesson of my entire life. I have repaired just about everything I've ever had and i owe it all to that one lesson.

@@jamesnewcomb6065 A freakin men dude! My old man has been fixing and working on cars his entire life. Finally one day my cars valve train was messed up and I asked him what he thought it was. When he told me that it was probably a bent valve, I was horrified at the price the local shop offered to swap it at. He reminded me that even if I mess up the job, I'd learn from it. That was the best $200 I ever spent. He helped me along from time to time, but it was the first time I really ever pulled something apart, invested some decent cash, and fixed. The shop quoted me at 750. But for $200, I was able to not only save money and learn how to fix that pos, but also learned a lesson that anything can be fixed, it's just about how much effort you're willing to put into it. Pretty much on that day, he inspired me to switch my major and I've been working on cars more intensively ever since! 4 years later and I'm almost done with school and can't remember the last time I paid someone to fix something.
