Thank you for your comprehensive camera comparison on the G6. I too am a photographer and use my G6 and V20 in manual mode for shooting landscapes, homes and rooms for realtors quick sales. And it's been a great side job for me.
I can really say that you have the best smartphone camera review channel. Unlike other channels which i think are too subjective in their review, you're doing it in an objective manner. Now im gonna follow your channel! keep it up! God bless 😁
Although the method you used for comparison of the cameras seems very scientific, I can't help but notice that most other popular reviews find that the S8 produces the best images. A low light comparison would have been beneficial as most cameras do reasonably well in outdoor shots or artificial lighting conditions
the LG G6 front camera completely sucks for a device like this, even an S5 front camera wins. But the Back camera is a Great device, it even takes better pics than the S8 and Plus on daylight, but in the Night the brawl gets to Samsung.
There are a few issues with calling the G6 the best smartphone camera. these phones do a lot more than just take pictures. i think you should consider video, panorama, and even the front facing camera; which i might add, are nowhere near as good on the G6.
Randy Ajay The G6 doesn't need panorama since the wide angle can take better pictures than using panorama. Also the G6 has the most features especially in manual mode being able to adjust shutter speed as high as 30 seconds. No phone goes that high. With that one can even capture images of the stars. I do with my G5 in manual mode. LG really makes amazing cameras.
SDav21 30 second shutter? Lol my budget phone Zenfone Max also does that, not only LGs. Even OnePlus does a full 1 minute exposure time, so it's not a novelty feature of the G6. I'm not hating btw, but I just wanted to clarify that.
f1.7 is always likely to expose more than f1.8. exposure control folks. u can deal with much of the issues raised in this review about the s8 samples by adjusting exposure but nothing you can do about the g6s frailties in lowlight. you're stuck with that. I'd go with the s8 overall.
Rubén Dario Pizzurno Aguilera s8 is the winner because you can address the issues on it by exposure correction while there's nothing you can do about the inferior OIS system on the g6 which will result in poorer lowlight performance
Just because you are locked at a wider aperture doesn't mean auto can't compensate with a lower ISO or higher shutter speed. That's a pretty weird argument. -Adam
IDG.tv auto can but if it doesn't the user should. Samsung even makes it simple with the brightness slider in auto. Leaving that to one side the basic point I was making was that you can correct for the exposure on the s8 but you're stuck with the g6s performance in lowlight cos that's a hardware thing. Hence why I said the s8 takes it overall. The primary camera just has better hardware so you'll always get better results in the round from it. Do you tap to focus on the s8. The camera not only locks focus where you tap, it also locks exposure. The reason why I mentioned the aperture was because it's an issue that developed with the s7 last year. Don't think it's just a question of the software not compensating alone. The camera just let's too much light in. Better that though because you can compensate rather than having a fixed lower f stop that doesn't let enough in when it's really needed. Smartphones because if their fixed lenses will always be bastions of compromise. User input will always be required. Come to think of it even DSLRs deliver mixed results when used in auto. idg.tv
Ddsdfs Ddfsss You must be young with all the disdain and hate spewing from your mouth. You don't have shit from LG! And you must have ment the software right, hardware on the outside and and software is the inner. 😒 Nobody buys something that they don't like or can't stand...dude shut up and move on!
Hi DDsdfs, Good Day! Agree on that but in real life, you don't ask your friends "what's the chipset of your phone?" It still has the same function as other phone. It can make calls, sms, surf the net, taking a photo and etc regardless of the chipset. Besides, if it runs smoothly, then there is no issue on that. What matters most is it functions as a smartphone. Then if there are apps or a function that only runs in SD 835 then that' is a point that we can raise to LG. If none, then all is well with current SD. :)
I see. I got you on that. Well, what do we expect from this companies? they always charge us/consumers with High Prices regardless of the Internal hardware as long at is "Brand New" for them :)
great comparison! but I have to mention this. the macro shots of electronic board. yes, s8+ captures clear text. but that's only around the center part of the image. look at the rest of text away from the center. they are blurry just like the motion blur you get when capturing image of a moving object with slow enough shutter speed. and also the lines on the board look almost disappear as if the s8+ is trying to applying beauty effect on the board's surface. 2:28 s8+ smoothes the surface of the wall (upper area of the image) making the image look less pleasing.
I DIDNT why all the phonereviewers say s8 still better than lg g 6 . i dont know why? for me lg g6 still the king of 2017 for sure. samsung with his curve display look like a toy . seriouly people need open their eyes
Because of the selfie camera, really. And most reviewers aren't actually photographers, so they look for the more "fun" and "impressive" pictures, not accuracy
Why is this channel so low in subs? I own an LG G6 and it is starting to slow down A LOT!! But I was hoping that I could get similar offering in another phone - 550+ PPI pixel density, QHD+ resolution, 32 bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, 3.5mm jack, IP67, fast charging, superb built, ultra wide angle camera and decently useful daylight photos. This video tells me that I should hold on to my G6 a bit longer.
Incredibly insightful overview and comparison! I don't get why people are knocking the LG G6 so hard. I'm getting one for sure. To many people it isn't as desirable as a Pixel XL, iPhone 7 Plus or Samsung Galaxy S8 and doesn't speak to the imagination. I do think LG can still do better, because there were a lot of hardware restraints because of the early release date. Partially due to cutting corners too, so for the LG V30 and G7 they need to go all out!
Well, thank you for this excellent review. While most of the others just say: G6 is good, but S8 is just better (thereby frauding the results, since some of the shots taken with the G6 were so bad that even a 50$ phone would do better). Your review is simple, but efficient. Therefore I hereby crown you as the winner of the comparison between G6 and S8
Hey i know im a bit late but i have a question Your g6 has 4.03 focal lenght and mine for some reason has 4.1 Is that good or bad? And if so by how much
I really enjoy the fact that these reviews are objective and don't just base it off of what is more vibrant or visually pleasing. Accuracy is key to a good photo
This is a great review. Is that S8 plus snapdragon or exynos? If not exynos, could you please try it against G6? Cause it is rumored that Exynos S8/8+ have a better camera compared to snapdragon variants.
IDG.tv I get that. But if you see the below link, Exynos variant is now available in the US now. Hope that helps you in doing another comparison :) www.sammobile.com/2017/05/15/dual-sim-variant-of-samsung-galaxy-s8-with-exynos-chipset-goes-on-sale-in-the-us/ idg.tv
This is actually meant to be a deep dive for the average shooter. Most people shoot in auto, but that doesn't mean that auto modes can't get an in depth look. -Adam
