For those wondering about the "flickering" of color/contrast on the S8, that's a FCP bug. Here's the Raw Original Uncut tree video clip (4K): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bb1DP2MzMrY.html You can clearly see there's no "flickering". Super stupid FCPX, I'll keep looking into it... (let me know if you have any FCPX tips on this!)
what are you taking about FCP bug, i seen the same with other reviews lol, why would FCP do that only to the s8 lol when you also inserted s7 egdes video in too, your a liar man. you have it in all s8s video, even when you place them side by side and your telling us that its a fcp bug, if there was a bug i should have seen it twitch once in s7 edges video. LIAR
I only can speculating. In the last weeks a lot of reviewers critized the oversaturated S8-footages. And Samsung made few updates since then. The guy uploaded this video on 29. april ... so maybe the S8 has few whitebalance-updates since release , to repair the oversaturation - and maybe this isnt working as good as it shoult yet. Also in the ending of the video you can see the s8 jumps into contrast. It could also mean: that the uploader has edited the s8-video-footage for purpose (because typically editing softwares made changes by keyframes , so the first and last second of the video footage is leaved untouched). Third explaination could be: that the uploader himself while he recorded the video, changed the white-balance-settings of the S8 on the fly or the ev .... Fouth explaination could be , that his S8 has a malfunction... Sixth explaination could be : that he didnt record the S8-footage with the S8, but with a different camera. For example: the iphone 7 is confirmed that the device dont do smooth white-balance-transistions - and the issue is still unsolved at apple. But thats all speculations... hard to tell what it could be... Its the first time i see such thing at S8-video-footages.
Same as you said, though I dont own a S8, But on of my friend bought it, I compared it with my s7, and it was totally opposite what this video showed us... S8 colors reproduction is quite good, ands its punchy as well. But this videos S8 footage looked all washed out, and their are many color jumps in s8 videos, may be he did some editing with those videos, but failed. :D
As someone who's very particular about camera quality on phones, your review was really helpful! Especially loved the 'blinded' side-by-side photo comparison of both phones before revealing if it was the s7 or s8. Most of all how awesome it is you hit the key points while keeping the video so concise (Cause yes, viewer attention span is getting worse lol)!
Great comparison. I have also compared both S7 and S8 side by side and the results were quite different. I believe that's because I compared Exynos models that have slightly different image processing. I found the Galaxy S8 to oversaturate the image in 4k video recording.
+TechLineHD - Hmm, interesting you're saying the different model is processing it differently. You should do an S8 vs S8 camera comparison (Snapdragon vs Exynos)
Seriously just turn HDR on s7 and the difference is not even that noticable really if you ask me... I'll stick with the s7 it's not worth paying all that extra money. If anything both cameras looked better in different situations and that's being nice to the s8 lol
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke hmmm well that's interesting. I have different looking pictures when HDR is on my s7. I prefer the eye catching look on the s7 though. I wouldn't wanna pay all that extra money for boring and bland pics the s8 produces. Samsung should've kept everything the same but went back to 16 megapixels. That would have definitely been a monster of a camera!
Great comparison Ben, I have a S7 Edge and I'm very happy with the camera on it. Great side by side video and audio tests as well and the wave test really show what's happening in the processing of the image. I never would have known about that otherwise, thanks for the great work! 👍
@@ManojYadav-ms7cv lmfao i dont even own any of these phones in the video, just arguing about you, edgy human. -Coversation ended- if you reply, your a truly edgy kiddo
Golden Ratio That's what I was thinking. S7 is fine for someone who doesn't really understand or would never bother using photo editing (most likely older people), but S8 is superior.
and most people would only play back or view the photos and videos on the phones device anyway which will pump up the vibrancy more anyway especially if HDR+ is enabled
yeah why spending time for adding effects on every video/photo we take, when we can use the amazing camera settings of s7.... Cant imagine sitting at laptop waiting to transfer the video, than waiting to add effect and than upload.WTF
Really appreciate this comparison - THANKS! I NEED a wide angle lens for day-to-day shooting, so I'm guessing the S7 (S7 Active model is my choice) is the best I can do for video and stills; this is with the assumption that the S7 is THE widest available smartphone right now, except for the dual camera on the LG -- which is way overkill! I also really like the capable OIS that others don't have. I just wish SOMEBODY made a smartphone with about a 90-degree field of view. You may have guessed I am a real estate photographer and need a decent back up in a pinch. Thanks again for all of your great videos!
Glad it helped you out! I too love a good wide FOV on my smartphone, and the dual lens option seems super cool. Have you looked into a clip-on lens for your smartphone cam? Something like these can sometimes work well: amzn.to/2pAqvk1
Ha! Funny thing, though I will miss out on the the more powerful battery, I've ordered an S7 (not Active) model. The reason for this is that Samsung has a lens case for 80USD which allows a distortion-free 110 degree view - Cool! Ordered that too. Can you review that setup, please. You are the best - THANKS!
S8 is way better. Just look at how the close up of the speed limit sign has a more noticable white outline around the black text on the s7. That is *edge enhancement* and while it might look sharper at first, it degrades the detail if you view full resolution on your screen. You can always selectively add sharpness in a photo editor afterward. But the less edge enhancement applied automatically to the original image (without a way to disable it), the better
Great video! can you play with the color settings in the s7 and get less saturated and brights colors in the s7 - so that they look the same as in the s8? and if so, do you need to set it every time you film a video or take a picture or you can do it once and it will be stay like that all the time?
Thank you for comparing cameras really love this but i never ever seen any grainy video on S7. i watched a lot of camera comparisons and never seen any noise in videos like this (For S7 and S7 Edge)
Thanks for this comparison. I was really in doubt between S7 and S8. Definitely S8 is better, mostly because its faded color grading is more editable (to filmmakers, as I am). Moreover its quality in low light is better either.
Just switched from the S7 to the S8... I hate the S8 camera. Especially the zoomed in front facing. And who wants to edit every shot for Flat colors. It's a great phone, but Samsung dropped the ball on the camera.
Bradical Levinger hey, thanks for that observation, i was thinking of swapping my s7edge for an s8, but I've been holding back.. might hold on about longer or look at a G6.. cheers
Thanks John... i rarely use the front camera, but that doesn't sound too bad.. are you happy overall that you switched. just wanted to ask because in UK it's about £70-100 upfront cost,
Nice video. As for myself; I'm upgrading my S7 to an S11 later. Now that's a jump! My previous upgrade was from the original Xperia Z (first one evfer made) to an S7 edge- and only because I accidentally killed my Xperia. I deal in leaps and on't bother with baby steps. :)
This is one of the best camera comparison videos on YT! Great job! Have you tried LG G6 camera? Is it better than S7? I dont compare it with S8 because they are not in the same price range (at least in my country)
I love my Galaxy S8+ it's more about the photographer and their skills with a smartphone camera I think. Plus how mother nature provides us far better weather conditions than other days. I like your comparison though regarding the difference between both models. Nice high quality review/comparison. Curated to my technology playlist.
holly shit finally a graded color profile after 7 USELESS generations... TAKE MY MONEY ! S8 is a beast now. Really professional color reproduction. well done Samsung. Thats the way to go.
Hi, I really like your videos, I need to buy a new phone, and I'm doubting between these two. I want to start doing videoblogs for youtube, so wich one do you think is the best for it? Is the difference between them worth it to pay? I hope you can answerd me. Thanks.
Uhh nice, you ride the Electric Unicycle ;-) I have the S8+ and it seems to struggle when panning a shot. I have tried without auto focus and image stabilisation and still not good. Do you see the same?
Aaron Roach but it's taste. I like it with these punchy color. G6 also is like that also nice how natural the s8 looks but people like me just like the fake ones more
While video editing you could surely get them to look about the same. But the flat color profile of the S8 would probably end up looking better when color grading.
Hey Ben, what's the field of view of s7 edge/s7 front facing camera? I really loved the wide angle lens in s7. Is there any other phone which has the same fov as it was in s7 edge? All new phones seem to have just removed this feature absolutely
People are too used to the Samsung Galaxy S7's camera, so they believe it's better just because it has more more vibrant colors, but its natural look is not good compared to the S8, people believe that a more vibrant look looks better than a more realistic look, but I disagree.
Got S8 plus from it's release now with s7 edge , I would say s7 edge is still better it's all about personal opinion not on the people being obsessed with the s7 camera
Does the S7 remember camera settings after shutting down the phone? For instance, i always underexpose -0,33. Do i need to change that every time or does the S7 save that permanently?
I like that the s8 has more accurate colours because generally when you take a photo, you take a photo because what your looking at looks nice! I don't want some crappy post-processed version of what I'm looking at
Erm theres many other videos of s7 vs s8 camera and none of them show such stark color saturation differences. You sure you didn't mess around with settings and forget to reset to default before doing this?
@1:36 if i will peek thoroughly, s8 s video or lens can handle the vibrations well, see it for your self while rolling on the sidewalk, dont blame the editing software because both videos are on the same time line and shot at the same time. its the camera thats changing abrupt changes, if i pixel peek look like the lens ois is causing the abrupt changes in the s8's video
I think I will go with s7 edge, it's cheaper and it has all the features I want. External memory, water proof, and the camera is satisfactory. The only feature I have problem with the S8 is that they designed it longer and the S8 is much smaller than your s6 edge without going to plus. So it forces you to go to s8 plus, which cost at lowest an extra 100. I am only worried about the noise problem and it's ability to work with lighting, because I cannot afford to buy a professional video camera, when I only uploading videos as practice right now, when I want good quality still.
both good , but if both where brand new today , I'd probably go with the S7 edge , not that there's anything the matter with the S8 variants , but I'm not into the tall narrow form factor , I'd probably leave the G6 on the shelf too .
I personally like the image on the s8 better cause it make color grading much easier for me since manipulating the colors are a lot easier due to the low color profile!
Now for the price, is it worth going for the S8 right now? I'm going to buy a S7 but i wonder if it's still worth it or if the S7 edge is better or if the S6 is fine (and cheap).......... Too many phonesssssssss
what u say pinned for me the s7 has a bettet camera i know that u like the s7 better ur just saying that the s8 is better coz s8 is a brand new phone but the truth is s7 and s7edge is better
I'm pretty sure you had the cameras mixed up on some parts. It got confusing once you were showing the front facing cameras on the moving scooter and pointed to the s7 camera but said s8 and vice versa
