I've been wearing my Galaxy Watch Ultra for about 2 weeks and I agree with your findings. I'm 70 years old now and starting to slow down my physical activities and more concerned about steps, energy scores, heart beat, etc. I have a home fitness gym with a treadmill, elliptical machine and a Bowflex. I've found I can get a solid 2 days of battery life with everything ON. It tracks well for heart rate, temp, duration of workouts, etc. I also like the irregular heart beat monitoring and sleep score. I upgraded from the Galaxy Watch5 Pro and it's a much better smart watch. Thanks for the review.
@@ibby81ae Thanks. Yes, I have those set. I would just like to find a blood pressure monitor device that works seamlessly with Samsung Health and not have a second app. I currently use iHealth's KN-550BT which works well but requires it's own app.
Been waiting for the good reviews. Earlier today we got DC Rainmaker. Now Chase the Summit. Just waiting on DesFit. Good day. 😃 Thanks for all your hard work.
I am a galaxy user who has been wanting an apple watch ultra competitor for android. I've really enjoyed using the watch so far, and am glad to hear that it is fairly accurate. I appreciate all your testing and comparisons between other devices!
maybe u know what im wondering...so im trying 15promax and apple watch ultra3 in greece on vacation...with option to give to one of my daughters...i love watch but hate phn.... when i return home i have s24u which i will go back to and i ordered this samsung ultra watch in orange/black im wondering will the watch work fluidly with googlepay ie tap to pay and google calendar which i have on s24ultra... the apple watch u2 was handy but i really found i hated the phn versus my samsung
@@Yuu_Tuub After 3weeks I'll be honest my man - it has great software but battery is 2.5 days max (no AOD), it is too heavy and I will sell him and wait for Fenix 8!
I been watching at least 20 + videos on YT about the Ultra watch! Yours is the 1st that does a deep dive into battery life, fitness, n GPS! Well done, man! I switched from Garmin Fenix 3 to this just under a week now no regrets! Do a lot of spinning classes, weight training, n MTB! Very accurate recordings!
Hey, the weight training tile is pretty good. There's also individual body parts weight training, but it's too much of a hassle! Spinning and yoga classes are pretty accurate, though! The GPS location for MTB trail centers is spot on. I double-checked with my previous recordings on Strava! The only thing is, if I crash, I might damage the head unit, so I'd recommend getting a protective guard!
@@kwiyau Thanks man! Appreciate the comment. I’m having a hard time these days to believe in RU-vid reviews that’s why I’m asking people for their real opinions because they actually USE the watch.
I took a leap on this and sold my Garmin Epix. I've left the Garmin universe for Samsung and so far have no regrets. While the Samsung Ultra can't compare in many ways to Garmin, it's working for me...I really love it. As for the style, I think it's totally unique and looks awesome. The build quality is outstanding.
@RaP22 no guts were needed, it's just a watch...and it was just a confident leap. I do miss the battery life of the Garmin for sure. I'm getting about 3 days with Samsung... never used maps much so that didn't bother me. So far so good but we'll see. The build quality on the Galaxy Ultra is exceptional but I think Garmin is a tad better. I think Garmin has a more resilient coating on the bezel. Who knows... these things only last a year or two so I might be back. Lol
Made the jump from Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 Sapphire. The garming may have been a bit more accurate and better for the VERY serious athlete. I ended up switching because I prefer to be able to leave my phone at home on runs and rides. Both great products and still own the Garmin too...
Im still super happy with my 5 pro, i think im using it untill it dies or is too old to have software updates 😂... just today i was laying in my bed listening to a audio book about Carlos Hathcock fell a sleep and woke up thinking I'll never find the spot where i was left, little did i know my watch stopped playing it once it recognized i was sleeping 🤯.... amazing!!!
I love my Ultra. Same model as yours. I'm still dual tracking right now due to my commitment to the Garmin ecosystem, but really dig the Samsung for all of the other functionality that my Garmin either lacks or doesn't do well, such as body composition analysis.
I'm curious, since you test many watches for extended periods and engage in various workouts, how do you track and organize all your workout data? Do you use a specific app or have another method for compiling everything? Great review! 👌😍
That's the thing with optical sensors. It could perform wildly different on different wrists with different bands and different levels of snugness. We all have different body fat percentages, hair density, skin color, etc... Lots of variables. The only way to do a proper test would be to find a group of 20-30 strangers and average the results from the same group with every device.
Just ordered mine, cant wait. I have quite slim wrists so im hoping it wont be too big for me. Otherwise will have to return it for the galaxy 7 instead
Are you sure? Mine doesn't change throughout the day and I've been wearing it for a couple of weeks. Scrolling through the previous days still shows their scores as well.
@ChaseTheSummit I think the 7 has a bug or not so great battery life. A friend of mine has 1 and he's disappointed. There seems to be large differences between the 7 and the 7 Ultra
@@leeslimz7606 It all depends on our individual ideas of 'great battery life' I guess. My Watch 7 44mm BT version easily lasts 3 days with AOD off, gestures off, continuous health monitoring and sleep tracking on at night and a 45 minute workout everyday which uses GPS. All of these even before the update and the update didn't really change anything. In my opinion, this is great battery life, for some who want a battery that lasts a week, this might be disappointing. You cannot compare it with the Ultra that has 50% more battery that the 44mm and double the battery size of the 40mm. It's double the price of these both.
@@ChaseTheSummit Yes, it does change everyday for me. The score reduces by atleast 3-4 points as the day passes. Might be a big in your case. Did you try it after the update?
Nice one...But i hav watched every video of this watch but couldn't find one review on Battery drain in FULL LTE mode. This is my reason to buy this watch👇 I want to leave my phone at home & go for a RUN while using this watch in full LTE mode, listening to music using galaxy buds through Spotify on the watch & at the same time wanna track my Run via the watch app. Question : How much of the watch battery do u think will drain for a one hour RUN if my watch is 100% charged when i started my RUN? Roughly 50%may be?? Can you lemme know pls. Coz the only reason i am considering to buy this watch is for the above requirement.
Like I said there's a lot of variables with battery life and Music + LTE will certainly play a BIG role in draining the battery. I wouldn't expect any more than 2-3 hours while streaming but that's just a guess. You could also pre-download the music before you leave home over wifi and save a bunch of battery though!
Awesome review. I really loved how you approached explaining battery life. On the Energy score how low did it seem capable of going? Was it more similar to Oura which barely crosses below 60%, or did you get a full range of scores?
for battery drain does that take into account the bluetooth bug where it cauzed crazy battery drain? A new firmware released fixed it supposedly. At least some users are reporting positive outcomes after updating.
I got a Galaxy Watch. 7 40mm. Love it. I got it early, before official release. I get easy 2 days battery with AOD. Gps and HR comparable to my Garmin 165 or better. Soo fast and capable! I might also get an Ultra for Adventures It learns your use and the battery improves as you use it.
The Galaxy Watch platform has always been the most feature rich smartwatch platform. No other smart watch on the market can tell you your body fat percentage, monitor for sleep apnea, and check your blood pressure, all while being a rugged smartwatch one can place calls from and even play music from. Its accuracy issues běing fixed tăkes it to the tippy top in my eyes.
I'm liking it so far. The accuracy is much improved when compared to the previous Samsung watches. I primarily got it for the smart watch features and LTE connectivity so that I dont have to run with my phone. My Epix Pro 51mm is my main fitness tracker, but I wear the Samsung watch on my other wrist. The overall design is growing on me. I have the same color as you and think it looks better with the dark gray trail band. I do hope Samsung adds support for external sensors in the native app.
The GPS from the Epix 2 Pro is not accurate.. When i'm walking in the city between buildings on both sides the GPS is measuring my walk 20 meters off. It says i'm walking on the other side of the street. And walking inside a mall, the Epix 2 pro is measuring that i'm walking outside of the mall while i'm actually inside... The Samsung watch 7 Ultra sometimes measures the correct path in a zigzag shape, but it does measure the correct path. The Samsung also takes the correct measurement between buildings and inside a mall it is still measuring that I am walking in a shopping center.
@Tha-King-Arthur you might want to check your configurations on the Epix Pro. I feel it's more accurate than the Galaxy Watch Ultra, especially in difficult situations. Now, the Galaxy Watch Ultra isn't bad, but the antenna design is probably better in the Epix.
I just started tracking my workouts (mostly running and hiking) with the Galaxy Watch Ultra, i also compared it to the data from the Garmin Fenix7. I am impressed with the Galaxy Watch Ultra! Amazingly precise, and the screen and interface is just sooo much better than Garmin.
Now we need the Garmin ring and truly seamless Physio True Up. I still love the Garmin ecosystem, I just can't get on board with a watch needing charged pretty much daily.
That’s the impossible question. It simply boils down to which ecosystem and what phone you use that will dictate which watch is better suited. If Samsung left the door open for iPhone users I think this would be a super interesting conversation for a watch that’s $100 cheaper and very similar… but that didn’t happen so here we are with two different walled ecosystems 🙃
I ordered 8 different bands for the two Galaxy watch ultras I bought. Got titanium grey & titanium white. Happy with them both so far. I just didn't like the provided bands they came with. Thumbs up from me. I do miss the physical scroll bezel though.
I don't use LTE and WIFI because it's always connected with my phone but my workout drained much more. I did a indoor walk 4 km and a indoor run 1 km and the battery dropped 17% with GPS on, AOD on, all health on, adaptive brightness on.. My battery last 1 day and 20 hours on a full charge. But there is a software update coming to fix the drain..
Excellent video, just one question for tou! Can you have a map on screen on watch, during the running?! I ask for that fact because I need that detail on my watch during my hiking, please can you answer me something, or even show on another SWU video, thanks again!
Compared to the Galaxy Watch 7, which uses the same sensors and all the processing hardware, what you gain for more than double the price is a 40% larger battery, 3000 nits instead of a 1000, the ability to worry free dive into the water from the jetty but not below 1.5 meters, the alarm, the extra orange sport button and the titanium body, plus the squircle cushion design.
Hows that band on your wrist? I have the garmin fenix 7x and the band really irritates my skin under my band. Would you go from the garmin fenix 7x sapphire solar to the galaxy watch ultra?
What is your take on this watch vs garmin fenix 8? I like garmin but samsung tends to get good deals and gets to like half price of the garmin. Is it worth such a huge difference in price?
Wrist movements seriously affect heart rate accuracy for some/many watches. You kept your wrist more or less steady at 22:00. Wonder what would happen to the heart rate when you swing your arms.
Great thoughts about this new watch. So you bought the Galaxy Watch Ultra with your own money. Would not Samsung been able to send you a media sample watch since your channel is nearing the 150,000 subscribers?
Have not, I might pick one up since folks seem interested. It should be similar in terms of heart rate accuracy but IU suspect may not be as good in GPS due to the older antenna design. Purely speculation though.
Even though it's a copy of the AWU, they are doing a lot better in the software department. GPX tracks, cleaner data pages, energy score, and a better native fitness app, Apple are you listening?
One thing that seems silly but I LOVE is the fact that there is a MAP PAGE inside the workout app. Unlike apple that makes you jump between Apple Maps and the Workout app. Silly thing, but c'mon. We all want it!
Don’t see enough difference from my Galaxy 4 Classic at 46mm. I like the spinning outer dial on mine over a quick button. For me, it’s not worth the money.
At 15:27, you pressed the quick button to start the running workout but there was a lag in the seconds field. Does the running clock start immediately when you press the quick button? I'm mainly interested in track/interval splits and interval time accuracy...like a stopwatch. Thanks.
I have had mine since the 19th and I would love if they would give us sensor support. They need to give us this update. The GPS is great from my experience but I find the pace jumping around while running when compared to my Epix Pro. Do you notice this?
Same problem here, in comparison to my garmin fenix 7x the pace jumps up and down totally crazy. I’m probably sending my Samsung back for this reason because I can’t trust in the pace that i’m running.
Nope, only works on Android and for full functionality it needs to be a Galaxy phone.

I hate on samsung watches that I cant connect any sensors. I ve had Samsung Watch 4 and when I went for a run, 21km (2hours) listening to music, I came home and they turned off. So GPS+music 2hours battery life made me switch to Garmin Fenix 7X pro and now I couldnt go back. The battery on garmin is awesome, 30+ hours of GPS is mindblowing. And I barely used any of a smart features of a samsung. I used payments and calling. Calling is one feature I miss the most on my Garmins. Great video!
Samsung watch 4 is not the Samsung watch 7 Ultra.. Garmin has an great battery with amazing health features but a very slow and boring software experience, no decent smartwatch functions, 95% of the apps are useless to download and the GPS inaccurate in city's.. The Samsung 7 Ultra has a much better GPS signal, better software experience, more smartwatch abilities, tons of apps then my Garmin Epix 2 Pro..
the thing about the design they probably needed the shape to increase the battery size and maybe for the new bio sensors? But use the apple ultra 2 as an example. It has a rectangular display screen. Had Samsung gone down that route, people will be then scoffing it's a blatant copy/clone. So they went with this. Whatever way they took they'd still get criticized. Personally i don't really care about the copy accusations, i would have prefered had their display be the same size and shape as the apple ultra 2. Primarily because that has more display retail space, and it doesn't have rounded edges which cuts off stuff like UI among other things due to screen shape constrictions. The downside to that though, is the round shape for watch faces are all circles, so to use it on a rectangular design won't be as good. So they would have then have to do a completely new design unique to a rectangular shaped display screen. You would also not have a rotating bezel with that design. But that only works with a circle shape. But the reason given why they didn't add that this time around was because that rotating mechanism would impact the durability rating which was why it was omitted. Marques said something interesting, that they should done it anyway even if it impacted durability. If they did do that and release some special edition with disclaimer that now it might not work in water at all, and durability rating is impacted, would then people complain about that? My point is, people will just complain no matter what even if they add what people critisized it for. quantified scientist did some testing on ring, and the results were not good. the only thing then left for it would be the reduced battery drain when paired to the watch, but with those poor accuracy results.... yikes. the ring isn't cheap and if the accuracy is poor, that is a hard sell.
@@RagingBad thats fair. not every1 likes the design and i get that. but if that is the case, why then is apple ultra watches with that type of design selling so well? so if samsung decided to make that, i'll bet you some people would still buy that.
The battery its exactly the same one used inside the smaller galaxy 5 pro and i dont understand the talk about ruggedness and waterproofing issue of a rotating bezel : basically all the exploring and diving mechanical watches have a rotating bezel and mechanical watches are much much more delicate than digital ones , looking at the exploded view from samsung the bezel its just a cosmetic piece of metal glued in the front and i ve read already a couple of reviews on amazon saying that the bezel its really easy to scratxh and dent as its made from a soft metal. In the end the fixed bezel its just samsung being cheap.
I have a question about navigation that i did not see in that section: when following a route, can remaining altitude (profile) be displayed? I have a Garmin 735xt and it bothers me that i can't see what comes next
When you say you can connect an external HRM with 3P apps, is that via the phone or in watch? I don't think you can connect any sensor direct to the watch. I love the idea of this watch, but I think it will let me down versus the Garmin Tactix 7 I currently use. If GWU just had offline topo maps installed, I would be much happier.
Using an app like SportyGo you can in fact connect external sensors. SportyGo supports Heart Rate straps, and even the Stryd foot pod. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.qooapps.sportygo The downside is that the activities won't be reflected in Samsung Health
Great watch, but would of been better if you could of purchased it with the band of your choice, without LTE and if the battery wasn't so bad. I am getting 14+ days with my Garmin which makes it impossible to even take this 2 day watch seriously.
I understand the watch and ring work together, that's why there's a heart rate with the watch off while you wear the ring. Also, the frame is made of Titanium. Where did you get it was plastic? Due to the feel to the touch?
My mistake. I assumed the frame was made of plastic due to the feel and because most smart watches have a plastic frame to improve on connectivity since metal is much denser.
Still no ant + support. As a cyclist this makes this watch next to useless, it will not communicate with my power meter, bike drive train, cadence sensor, speed sensor etc, or gym equipment that I use. So for collecting my training metrics totally iseless. This is hardly a sports watch, Garmin, Suunto, Polar and similar devices are all proper sports watches which will communicate with ant + sensors and devices. Then there is the battery life, very poor when compared to a proper sports watch.
Fun fact: I average 20 + klms per day walking & I have noticed classic 6 gives dramatically different calories burnt depending if I bother to start exercise in watch or just log steps, or lie to watch, telling it I am cycling. No doubt the ultra will feed me similar algorithm estimates ...
I could be wrong according to the comments on this video it's metal. I was purely going by what it felt like and the fact that MOST watches with a metal top/bottom have plastic center areas like Garmin, Suunto, COROS, etc... they do this because bluetooth, cellular, and other connectivity is challenging to house inside of a metal case with no openings.
The reason why the watch showed your heart rate while it's on the table is because you've been wearing the galaxy ring which can sync together for workout metrics :)
I was wearing the Oura Ring in this video... not the Galaxy Ring. I think the heart rate sensor was picking up the light flickering frequency from my studio lights and confusing it with my heart rate. I've seen this anomaly before.
@@ChaseTheSummit i think it is one of those things that are nice to have but not need. Most will be switching the strap out for sure. I'm on the fence about it. It is long but it doesn't bother me or catch on anything. These things are so subjective.
Hello, I recently purchased a Samsung Ultra watch. I have noticed that the sensor on the watch remains illuminated even after I remove it from my wrist. I would like to know if this is normal behavior or if there may be an issue with the watch. Thank you for your assistance.
I cant imagine that 3000 nits. I was wory about 1000nits in Epix pro, but even witth 2/3 or 1/3 of brightness settings it is amazing even on sunny days
1000 nits is perfectly adequate. These 3000 nit watches are only adding it for the spec sheet lol. In reality I doubt the watch ever really boosts that high and usually looks similar to my Garmin.
Has someone who turned in her Washed by pro, absolutely not even close. For me it's a whole different experience and I really get what a smartwatch is for
@ChaseTheSummit thank you for saying something. Yes I'd like to use the decompress. But someone should come out with a wristwatch system that doesn't require you to have to continue continue to buy new product each month. Buy once, cry once. Over time the dexcom and libra are to damm expensive.
I got a scratch the very first day wearing it to work. GRRRRR it had my blood boiling. I'm not sure what I hit it on. But I cringe every time I see or think about it. The Scratch is on the bezel part right next to one or the orange markers. Now, I pull my glove over it at work to prevent that from ever happening again.
He Guys, GW ultra or should i wait for Pixel watch 3 ? Main Focus on health Tracking and some Sport+ smart stuff. Both Look fine for this. I have a Pixel Phone btw, so no Samsung Phone. Thank you
Really depends on your priority. I would do Ultra just based on battery. But check what features you would lose by using Pixel phone. Alternatively if you want some smart watch features, but main focus is fitness, I would look at the Venu 3 by Garmin. The battery life trumps both the Pixel watch and the Ultra, and has the latest Garmin hr sensor.
Right, except you can download third party apps like SportyGo which does support sensors and even the Stryd Pod. However then your metrics won’t be considered in Samsung health which is a bit annoying.
the estimated VO2 max is so puzzling to me. yours is the first time, I've seen it accurately score someone yet someone like DC Rainmaker gets the usual score I've always seen. I have no idea what's going on lol
I may have just been lucky. I also ran an ultra last week that totally jacked up my body and I’m sure I’m still not 100%. My Garmin went from 58 to 56 in just this past week while Samsung is reporting 54-55. Still, for an estimated ballpark not bad.
@ChaseTheSummit or you're incredibly fit lol. the VO2 max on Samsung watches is one of the hardest to show accurately. again, you're literally the first person I've seen get a high score. they're supposed to be working with a uni on a V02 algo but we'll see
😂 yeah I try to keep my dog out of my studio but it’s an impossible task. In fact if you look in the background of this video you’ll see him sleeping on the floor.
