+mauricio Yes, other's have mentioned this, and I am aware. I use three different smartwatch operating systems back and forth so even though I'm aware of the feature I find myself tapping on icons like I do with Apple Watch and Android Wear. Thanks for mentioning it and watching though!
On the ESPN app, there are two pieces to download from the Gear market. One is a watchface, one is the gear app. If you have both installed it will load up the gear app if you tap the watchface. From there it will tell you latest scores and upcoming games for your favorite teams. Or you could just manually load the app if you don't want to use the watchface.
Good video! I feel like every single smartwatch has limitations which is confusing from a consumer stand point. My current watch is the Pebble Time Steel which after almost returning I've decided to stick with as no other smartwatch is offering me much more. I'd like the Huawei Watch but I have reservations about spending that much money on a watch that might not be supported 18 months from now ( who knows what Huawei will do in terms of updating it in a timely fashion/at all? ). Plus at the end of the day it's still Android Wear which is not that compelling to me. This thing looks cheap too which you would hope it wouldn't for the price. Maybe the luxury version will be better?
Does S voice work well to create alarms and reminders? I love how i can just say ok google set alarm for 15 mins and then the watch sets a timer. Or when i want to respond to a text i can just use my voice.
You can do things like respond to texts with voice and set alarms, but I have to tell you google now is far better in my experience. Integration with google apps and services isn't great for S voice.

I changed my mind, I'll buy a motor 360 2nd gen, as many tech reviewers are somehow negative, and doubtful about the absolute "win" factor of this watch... I rather play it safe by stay in the Android wearables! You have a great channel btw, check most of your reviews out! Keep it up!
+Brendan Bergmann Tizen is fine with me, but if Samsung plans to drop Android they should figure their stuff out with S-Voice, because it is trash right now. I can honestly say I'd consider not rocking future Samsung phones if I was forced to use S-Voice over Google Now voice commands. Plenty of chance for them to improve there, but those are my current issues with Samsung watches over Android wear. Still love the Gear watches, but I do not use voice commands with them at all, which takes away from the convenience of the watch.
I think the 2nd gen Gear S was definitely a HUGE step back. The only thing they needed to do to fix the original Gear S was fit it with Android Wear and equip 4G. When will Samsung listen? It's not difficult.
I like it though. The curve makes it doable. Plus with the larger screen it's easier to leave the mobile at home. For me it's all about not having to carry a phone around anymore.
I'm using gear s2 with galaxy edge. Personally, I love the UI, it's responsive (slows down sometimes but very rarely), looks great and convenient. Comparing to android wear, I wish it was compatible with more apps such as google maps, citymapper, google keep and would allow me to set google play music as my default music app. Additionally, would be great if i could use microphone on gear s2 during voice call (im usually using headphones without a microphone so it would be extremely useful) and well... s voice is most likely among the worst voice assistants i have ever used. However, most of these features are available on android wear but i would not swap my s2 for android wear watch. Widgets, performance, UI, navigation (spinning wheel) and great screen make a great and intuitive experience overall. However, if you value functionality more (s2 got all the basic functionality which is implemented quite well) then you might want to consider android wear. I would suggest to think what your are really going to use your smart watch for and keep in mind that application on android wear are much more limited than their full phone version. I have used android wear only for couple of hours while setting it up for my father and i was unable to use cittymapper to navigate to custom address.
it just looks so slick... but its got to be the 3g model... stand alone on the Gear S is amazingly convenient... leave your phone at home and with remote connect get all your notifications calls messages forwarded to the watch. tempted by the 3g Gear S2

Hi Jeff, many thanks for this. I have a Gear S, Apple Watch, Moto 360 (1st gen) and a Pebble Steel. I find that although each of them has its strengths and weaknesses (Pebble easily best for battery life, Android Wear most aesthetically appealing interface, Apple looks best on the wrist), the Gear S is unquestionably the best for functionality and it's the one I use most often and like the best overall. I don't understand the fixation with making smartwatches round. A dumb watch is round for a reason - its sole function is to tell the time. But a smartwatch is different - telling the time is only one of its functions, and I find reading text on a round screen a bit of a pain. A rectangular screen is far better for that - why try to make a device conform to a shape that doesn't match its functions?

I use the S6 edge/ gear S2 classic combo. RU-vid (XENOZU) app works via WiFi. Google music gets downloaded through phone for offline playback, etc. Who needs a crappy camera on a watch when I can use remote from s2? Text ain't too small either just answer with pretext/icon. I like the S2, only main issue is it is too small for me and the original Gear S has better battery life. Overall the S2 is probably the better watch for most people though! Happy new year and thanks for checking out my channel!

Huh. My Gear-S I like but S-Voice is really slow. Though after watching this review, seems like the Gear-S is already in a class of it's own because it's well, a curved glass watch. I love being able to message on it and if my phone dies, well I can still use my Gear-S. Had no idea how small the screen size was compared to the Gear-S as well...I think I'll wait until LG pushes out another one of their smart watches, or if Samsung makes a N5 active, I'll stick with Samsung. Also can't count out the extra screen space of the original Gear S, going from 2 inches to way, way smaller...I guess it's more comfy, but my Gear-S never bothered me. Moto 360 did though, as much as I wanted to love it.

Jeff Springer Agree 100% it's just to slow, Android is fast, but Samsung has pretty much made their version of the APPLE market. Locked down to their GEAR and phones. Prime reason I'm looking at LG.

My favorite Android Wear watch is pretty close between Huawei and Moto 360 2nd Gen. I like the bigger screen on the 46mm Moto 360, but the resolution and battery life is a bit better for me on Huawei Watch so far. If the damn thing had a speaker I wouldn't mind it but even that was taken out! I'm gonna stick with the Gear S and the Moto 360 till maybe the Gear S3. I wear a proper watch for going out anyway so I don't mind the look of the Gear S at all. The S2 Classic looks nice but I don't see any killer features besides the bezel that makes me want to run and get it.

Definitely! I find myself switching between it and the 360 during the day, then a real watch for special occasions. I still think the Gear S is a bit complicated for a smartwatch but there still isn't anything better. No problem! Great channel!
Very comprehensive review thanks. I have a Gear S and love it. I hate the charging puck which breaks easily. I wish there was a magnetic charging alternative. Not being able to call on S2 is a deal breaker. Pixelation on Moto saddens me. What I want is to play with Android Wear. +Thomas Chavez The Gear S is my personal pick. The battery life is much better and I like the speaker and stand alone features. One thing to be aware of is that it is very big as you can see in the video. If you are buying a watch for a lady or a guy with a smaller wrist, the S2 might be the only way to go because the Gear S will look silly on a small wrist in my opinion. Moto 360 is hands down the best smartwatch as far as compatibility (android wear works on ios as well as android) it is the nicest looking and although it is a little bit expensive it is not overpriced like the Gear S2 or Apple Watch.

+Jonathan Beaudry I think it depends on what you want to do with the watch. I find Android Wear to be the most feature rich for me because I use Google Services so much. The Gear S2 is probably great for fitness and if you're already integrated into Samsung services. I think the original Gear S was even better because of stand alone features and the battery life, but many do not want a big watch on their wrist that looks like a phone. Does the Gear S2 tether to your phone even when you're not on wifi? Like can apps like yelp or maps work if you're not connected to wifi but do have your phone next to you?

Did I hear it right? Samsung pay with the Gear S2? I did a 2 minute research and found that Samsung did promise support for Samsung Pay on the Gear S2 which 'was' expected to come in 2016, but nothing on that yet. Another point is that the S2 doesn't have MST (the technology used by Samsung Pay on Smartphones), so if the watch uses NFC for transactions, that will be a bummer.
+Pablo Muñoz If you like big watches, I think the Gear S is the best still, because battery life is best and it has most features. If you like smaller watches the Gear S2 and Huawei Watch are both great options, really depends on if you want Tizen or Android Wear, which comes down to if you use Google Services a lot or not.
Personally I'd prefer Android Wear, Endomondo is a great running app for Android Wear that doesn't have a standalone app for Gear S2. If you can wait I'd go for the Moto 360 Sport. Thanks for checking out the video!
There is an app for Android Wear watches called "Wear Aware - Phone Finder". Description: "it lets you know when you are leaving your phone behind. Your watch will alert you by buzzing when your phone is out of reach. Time to say good bye to forgetting your phone at home when heading out in the morning!" Can you please tell if there is some similar app for Tizen OS on Samsung Gear S2? I need the answer to make my decision of what to buy, please tell me.
+DarkN3r0 I also use an app like that for Android Wear called Feel the Wear. The Gear S2 has a built in icon to let you know when your watch is out of range of the phone, but I don't think there is a 3rd party app for Tizen that has the same functionality as these for Android Wear do.
Personally Im not a fan of the s2 design. Tried it at bestbuy. The screen is small and the design is okay. I really like the design of the moto 360 and the bigger screen helps navigate better.
+Deyon Weekes I think that depends greatly on what you're looking for in a watch. I haven't found a perfect watch for me yet. I'd really like a watch that has the size of the original Gear S, but with Android Wear so I could also use Google for voice commands instead of S-Voice. I think the Moto 360 2nd Gen and Huawei Watch are the best Android Wear watches right now, and the Gear S2 and Gear S are both great options depending on the size you want. I've also used the Apple Watch, and it has a lot of nice features as well. I just don't use my iPhone often enough to make it the best watch for me. I was SUPER burnt by the Gear S for sure!! :(!!! Just got it in March 2015. Worst purchase ever! Dumbest 1st gen purchase ever! PLUS i Hate Tizen. Stupid stupid Tizen. I
+Sheryl Lynn I still think the Gear S is the best standalone watch, mainly because the battery life is far superior to the Gear S2. Verizon just opened preorders for the Gear S2 and it will be available at the beginning of November, but the battery size isn't that much larger than the WiFi (250mAh vs 300mAh for 3G). One question, super important to me....Does the S2 have Uber as an app, do you know? I'm drawn to the use of Uber and Samsung Pay on my watch as well as wireless charging (within the first 3 months of having my gear S the cradle clip broke - which come to find is apparently a common issue with the Gear S / a design flaw). I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for your Gear S2 3G followup video while still "shopping" other standalone watch options. Thanks!

I had my Gear S replaced by Samsung but battery only last about 16 hrs And moat of my features are turned off but I do have wake up with movement on as I think its a must
+Felipe Rios Moreira Strange, my Gear S gets such great battery life even with the wake up on wrist movement, but battery life is always subjective and varies from device to device.

Yeah if you wanna pair it with a tablet you can, and leave the tablet on WiFi at home and forward notifications to your Gear S. Obviously you won't get calls or texts but it can be done. Ivy A Nguyen Samsung only officially says he it works with their phones, but yes the calls and text will still work fine on Gear S you just won't get any forwarded from tablet obviously. I imagine any tablet with 1.5 gb of RAM form Samsung would work if its running KitKat or better.

+JON HENDRICKS Yeah, that is the watch face, you need to download it separately from the ESPN app. You can search "ESPN watch face" in the Galaxy gear watch face store through your Gear manager. On mine the ESPN watch face is actually one of the promoted watch faces.

I have a new LG V10. I used to have a Samsung Gear S, now I need a new watch and I can't decide on the Samsung S2 or an android wear. Anyone know how it works with the LG V10?
+netterzkastle It works fine with the V10. You lose a few functions that are specifically for Samsung phones, but it works fine. I would recommend the Moto 360 2nd gen or Huawei Watch over the S2, I have reviews of all three on my channel if you want to check them out.

It's hard, because I loved my Samsung gear S. I loved the size and the apps/widgets. I'm worried I won't like the Google now cards and lack of full text readability.

I know you touch on it but a deeper dive would be great. I know you are pushed for time! Shame they want to install so much software onto your phone. Why can't that all be built into the Wear app itself?
I'll definitely try to give a more in depth analysis of what can be done on non-Samsung phones in my full review. I think the only thing you lose is Samsung Pay, far as I can tell.

Richard Harkness Well I can tell you now you need to create a Samsung account to use all features. I had to create it on my Moto X Pure to use Buddy and Phone apps on the Gear S2.

Samsung S2 is much faster and easier than the others but unfortunately, Samsung is using a different operating system. Why this reviewer putting these comparison together is beyond me. I own Moto360, LG-Urbane, and Samsung S2 and Moto360 2nd gen all at one time but returned the Samsung because it is not using Android Wear OS so all software from Google Play does not work with Samsung. You can't find a Dual Time Zone watch face from Samsung website for example. I paid so many watch apps in Google Play and Samsung is a different animal. It is like compared Windows and Mac.
+John Chan Yes, the Samsung watches have the down side of not integrating as nicely with Google Service or using Google Now voice commands. This is the main reason I like having both options. +Joel Jamespaul It's hard to say after a short time if it's worth the upgrade. The battery life isn't as good and the screen is better on original Gear S in my opinion. The S2 is faster though. So far some of the Gear S apps are missing from Gear S2 compatibility... most notably the Opera Mini Browser which I couldn't find for the Gear S2.
