I have to watch your videos twice. The first time in order to appreciate the edition, shooting, etc., and the second one to analyse the content. Cheers mate, what a wonderful… work.
Thanks for this review E, still a great monitor! When I had looked at this I hadn't even considered the bad speakers (have external ones) , the bad camera that you're required to buy (have an external one), and lack of possibilities with the mounting. It's sad that they don't at least give you these options to opt out of some or add a VESA option. Cheers sir!
@@ThisIsE You're welcome. I love the overall look of this monitor, but after watching your review, it's clear that for my purposes (productivity/coding) the LG will be the better option.
Incredible video. Actually, I need to give a standing ovation to Samsung. The M7 was perfect in everything except the design which was really close to an old TV. As you questioned, is the M8 a M7 wearing a fancier dress ? I would like to give the following answer. Yes, it's just an upgrade of the design to make it more sleek and slim. Modern and minimalistic at a high cost since we lost a lot of USB Type A ports in the making. Still like it though. They even add a webcam. Overall, wonderful analysis.
You have earned a new sub and my immense respect for being a youtuber who also talks about the issues present in the device. (unlike other RU-vidr's sponsored videos with sugar-coated reviews) You understand the buyers perspective, why we are here watching reviews in the first place! We want to know whether we're spending our hard earned money on the right product! I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you so much, you're awesome! Will recommend your videos to everyone, and buy using your links to support this channel always!
This is by far the best M8 review, thanks man. I notice you use razer mouse with IOS setup 😀 it will be interesting to hear your thoughts about that experience in some of your future videos.
Dude, been blasting through your monitor review playlist and all your videos are top notch! Excellent produced, plethora of info, and I also like that you don't shy away from re-explaining something in one video if you already have in another, it helps to always bring context and also lets me further absorb that data. Top notch work!
Great review! Would love to see you review the Huawei Mateview 28.2. I’m trying to decide between the M8 so i’m biased but it would be very interesting to see you compare the two!😀
I own M7 and Im absolutely fine. For me M8 is bad due to missing VESA mount, but better with USB hub as M7 is 2.0 only. And better screen, but not big deal for me. I bought M7 for something like 300 bick which was insame value.
I bought M7 today. Actually half the price of M8. It's amazing monitor to me. I use with my Mac Mini M1. Fully compatible even with HDMI connection 4K resolution is ok. I use with my Asus i3 Laptop, which has 3 different OS. Windows 11, Ubuntu 22 and Monterey Hackintosh. Also Works with all of them too. Hackintosh Monterey doesnt support HDMI but it supports Airplay with this monitor. Sound quality as good as my old iMac 27inches. I also connected to satellite box via second HDMI too and it works fine as well. I criticize this monitor lonely and only for one thing. The remote doesn't have a SOURCE SWITCH button. Yeah. If you want to switch between those devices you have to travel 5 or 6 different button strikes to get there. Samsung should add the source switch button to remote. If they do I'll but the new remote.
I have a Dell 4K monitor that is at least three years old, maybe older. I am a "knowledge worker", not a designer or photo/video professional although I do a lot of photo editing for my personal pleasure. I am a tech weenie and always want the latest and greatest but I have yet to feel like I need a new monitor.
@@ThisIsE hey E. While I have you here, I’ve been searching for more than 2 weeks now and I’m stuck on which monitor should I get for my Macbook Air M1. Can I get your suggestion? I’m working from home, some photo editing and admin tasks.
I had the M7 and had to return it, the panel quality was really bad (don't know if it was because it is a VA, or if it is just an M7 problem).. went to a similar priced 4k Dell, and is 100 times better.. hope the panel is better on this M8
A very helpful video, still not sure what I'm going to end up with, and honestly I've got more important things than a monitor, my tablet and laptop screens work fine for now.
Thanks for this review, I’ve had my green M8 for around a month - I agree with your point about the speakers - but I rarely use them (when I do I have a Bluetooth speaker). It’s primarily a monitor for my new M1 Mac mini. Other than it’s slow reaction when I hit the space bar (which I can speed up with the remote) it’s a great monitor. I’m only surprised that Samsung have decided to only sell the white one in Australia (wake up Samsung) so I had to buy mine from internationally from eBay (🤞🏼 I don’t regret that in the future).
The m7 Came in 43 inches in my country since the m7 32 was launched. I tried both but ended up liking the m7 more the 43 was just too big for my work use which includes ms office programs and teams.
A VESA mount came in my package. It is a Samsung OEM adapter that snaps in place of the stand perfectly. It cost the same as the boz that didn't include it, but sometimes it's $30 or $50 more. It's billions of colors in 4k is welcomed.
Hi E, great quality video as always. It’s cool that you’ve created ENOUGH product. I wanted to point out a spelling mistake on the word ‘pad’ in your product description. Check it and correct it. Wish you good success with the product. Suggestion, it would be nice if you had more photos of the desk pad product (close up on the material & stitching).
Thanks for point all this my friend. Time is scarce and I rushed to publish it because it was far too long in the worlds. I’ll be adding a video and more photos of it for sure. I appreciate the help!
My elderly parents are cord-cutters. They have DSL internet, but they haven't had cable TV in years. They watch alot of RU-vid videos, and they use RU-vid to get their news. (PBS Newshour, etc.) They are doing this on an aging Intel Core i5-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro, which is getting very long-in-tooth (battery is shot) and will eventually have to be replaced. I have long thought about finding ways to improve their setup. I'm not 100% sold, but Samsung's M8 may be a crucial component. My most important questions are: 1: Can the M8 be wall-mounted like a TV? If it can, what kind of wall-mounting kit can be used? 2: If the M8 is used as a stand-alone computing device, (a: how do you use it to access Microsoft Office without a computer? Does it need a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse added to do this? (b: Can the M8 be used to access social media, such as RU-vid and Facebook? (c: Can the M8 connect to a WiFi printer in our home, to print out documents? and (d: Can the M8 be used to view and print PDF files? 3: I my parents wanted to use their laptop through the M8, how does it connect between a Mac and the monitor? Does the webcam work through this connection? 4: If they had an M8 hanging on a wall, how could external speakers be mounted?
For productivity or for the first world problem of being used to a high pixel density display, it’s hard to consider the M8. But that aside, they are very different from one another.
Price is now 400euros writin this in 30january 2024..well its interestin product for me as a trader and casual gamer plus casual content watchin podcasts this caught my attention..the only thing im concern is the speakers..i mean its goin to be in my bedroom but still..if its that bad i mean why they couldnt do somethin more with the sound with such a product..crazy
Great vid @ThisIsE I heard you say bout midway in that you can use a usb hub to get sound out? Can you elaborate? Did you verify this and what hub did you use if so? I just bought this monitor and I’m trying to find way to connect this monitor to my sound board.
Great review! Very accurate, very objective, and very personal. Subscribed! By the way, does anyone know if 10 bit color depth works with both USB-C and mini-HDMI? Because I have M8 and I think the color isn't very accurate.
Thanks for making an honest review! What other monitor would you recommend with similar design aesthetics, white, 4k or quad HD, and USB-c? Doesn't have to be a smart-monitor. Thanks! 🙏🏻
Thank you for this review man! It’s Black Friday, so the monitor is 200 dollars off. Think I’ll pull the trigger, since it’s only 100 dollars more compared to the m7
I don’t have a MacBook, but instead an iPad Pro 2nd generation.. will this still be the same if I hook that up instead? I’m shopping for a monitor rn since I’m searching for a cost effective alternative. I use my iPad primarily for university and need a bigger screen for when I’m home.
Really great video as usual. I just didn't understand the 1080p through airplay. Is it locked in this resolution when using airplay? I am considering the M8 to my setup cause it is 4k, 32" and all white including the front of the panel
@@ThisIsE would you happen to know how to calibrate the colors to get as close to the MacBook as possible? I bought this monitor for video editing screen real estate and when I air played my Mac, the colors on the m8 looked washed out 🙁
@@CNsAdventures you've probably figured this out by now but just in case you haven't. I watched Jules Acree calibrate this monitor with her Macbook (can't remember if it was an Air or Pro) using a Calibrate device. Colors were perfect after she did that.
Very honest review! I have a M8 on the way to me. Trying to figure out how to use the USB hub to extend to a 3.5mm and connect the speakers with wired connection. Is it working with the TV system?
Thanks for this video. You mentioned using a usb-c hub to get audio out. My hub has a full size hdmi out as well as an Ethernet port. Would these be supported by the monitor ? With the hdmi acting as an input instead of an output ? Would it preserve Dolby atmos sound ? Regards.
@ThisIsE can you suggest a way to control the brightness and volume of this display from the Mac? I like this device, the camera is okay-ish for meetings (even if in the one-to-ones I prefer the MBA one...). The audio is ugly, it's also true that I use a headset for 99% of the time.
The build quality like light bleeding from the edge of the display concerns me - sure it's a cheap alternative to Apples display, but getting the simple things right - ie quality control really needs work by samsung.
Can you do a review with pairing to a Mac Mini external drive? Or Mac hybrid... with Samsung approach. Emotional damage, lol. Thanks for such a great review. You weigh out the pros and cons perfectly. Now I went out and bought one just to piss off Apple who's selling their Apple studio for 1299+ and a glorified over-priced expensive monitor. For the money I saved (not buying an Apple), I can buy an over priced sound bar and keep it moving ;-))
Are we able to join Zoom calls with this? Using the monitor only I mean. And If join a call from your system, are you able to use the monitor's webacam?
i suscribed :-) I will have to look at your M7 video because I have it and i find the speakers very good on the M7. Wish it had the M8 panel brightness bofbcourse
@@ThisIsE Thanks. It s me again :-) Yeah, it seems a good monitor. i wont upgrade for the moment since i would probably miss the speakers of M7. But you said you can connect a USB-C HUB and get audio out? That s strange because i connected audio dongle to the M7 without any success... but the M8 does have 2 usb-c port....Or do you mean you use the usb-c hub with a PC source not from the Tizen OS? lastly, does the M7 remote intefere with M8 monitor and vice versa?
@@ThisIsE ok i understand it s just that if i connect my usb audio dongle to any of the usb port on the Tizen M7 monitor it wont be recognized as an audio device while on the nvidia shield with google tv it works...But it s ok not the end of the world. Also since i have a samsung device i can send the sound of the monitor to the smartphone
Wow them speakers suck and you said it's not 4k can you explain bc I'm buying this for bedroom and using it for both a TV and a monitor for gam8ng so I want a 4k
Hello ! On your old video you do not put link for m8 - so I have a question - is this not in your recommendation compared to the 32un880-b for example ? (You described this one as the best 16:9)
@@CercleDali I’m not saying you should cancel Cercle. It’s a matter of personal preference - VA or IPS. I personally use the M8 at my home studio and I’m very happy with it.
@@ThisIsE Nice to know - i'll try it if not satisfied i'll return it. I now use the g9 curved but I barely use the whole screen so it's overkilled forme
@@ThisIsE Thanks for the answer and for the great videos you make! I've read an article that stated that depending on the resolution of the external display, GPU performance was compromised, but it is probably one of those very little non perceptible things
my takeaways; maybe I'll wait for the next version, maybe M9 43" smart monitor, on IPS pls, and no need for great sound, since all TV will be better on the soundbar anyway. If this is on IPS it will be a more killer product since I'm really considering this rather than LG. other than that I think this is already great, also if possible on competitive pricing of
So many people don't realize M8 comes with a VESA mount bracket. Yes you can mount this on any 100x100 VESA monitor extension arm. Samsung is too smart for you
Hello, very good video. One question, I bought the Samsung M8 and a Mac Mini M2, and I don't really know which cable to use to connect it. I have read that if you do not connect it via USB-C it does not detect the camera, but in that case, which USB-C cable do I use, the one that comes with the monitor itself? And which of the two USB-C that the monitor has should I use? Because there is one that charges, and if I connected it to a laptop I would understand it, it would charge it, but if I connect it to a Mac Mini it doesn't need to be charged, wouldn't that be bad? Thank you so much.
Thank you for the video. QUESTION: I have heard that the black in this monitor is absolutely the worst and that there is a white-ish glare on the WHOLE screen no matter what you do. What do you have to say about this? 🙂
@@ThisIsE Macbook Air M1 2021, sir. Thanks for the reply. for now i am using Switch res X. if you have any cable suggestion, would like to have your reccomendation. thanks
I watched quite a few videos, trying to form an opinion, but ended up getting it to see for myself. It went back. The panel quality was just pathetic. I couldn't care less for the smart features, I would've happily traded them for a better quality display...
Is it safe to use the cable USB C that is provide with M8 monitor? Also the cable is charging my MacBook Pro M1 while is connected to the monitor, is that safe also for theMacBook Pro M1?
It's $400 now I still won't buy it. I have the m7 the 43 Ich I don't think this brought enough on the table for me to upgrade the lack of the jack port and the camera quality is a big turn-off for me.
I bought M8 but I am not able to turn on HDR, Can you please tell how to do it? and my color depth is showing 8-bit Edit: I switched to HDMI and I see HDR option but still when i try to turn it on, it just flashes and turns off HDR option again. I read an article and it says its brightness is 396 and it never reaches 400 to support HDR. Okay, I changed to 30 Hz and HDR started working and it is completely useless. Then even on HDMI 30 Hz I am getting 8-bit with dithering, articles suggest I should get 10-bit
