A quick fix on how to fix the Samsung Note9 discoloration issue. This method worked for me. Watch until the end to see how I eventually got the phone fixed.
It is 5 April 2024. This started happening to my note 9 after I dropped it last week. It happens when it is warm after watching a lot of RU-vid videos or playing games. If I let it cool down, it works fine. I learned that if you turn on "always on display", the dim numbers on the display keep the screen working perfectly fine every time you unlock your phone. I suspect it is a connector from the screen to the motherboard that must've gotten loose and is causing this. I will take apart my phone since the rear glass is cracked and disconnect/ connect all the screen ribbon cables to see if it fixes the issue.
It is now 8 June 2024. The issue has gotten progressively worse. I replaced the back glass and disconnected all the screen connectors and reconnected them to no avail. The only way I can see the screen is by manually setting the brightness to the maximum and disabling adaptive brightness. I ordered a generic Note 9 OLED screen on ebay and will replace it withing the next few days. I'll report back once I replace the screen with results.
So I replaced the screen and it works great now. It is a generic screen from Amazon with the metal frame for $140 or so. Two things I've noticed... the Hard Press Home button feature doesn't work anymore and the S-pen doesn't charge anymore. The S-pen works as a stylus but no longer has Bluetooth functionality. Also, this screen is a bit smaller then the original. The built in bezels are thicker than the original screen.
This screen problem is just sad. I purchased a pricey android phone hoping I would have it in the long run but then this occurred. Thanks a lot for the help! People didn't need to dislike this video at all!
Yeah I too bought this phone for the long haul and turns out that my old phone that I had bought for 50 bucks lasted longer and with less problems than this fucking phone.
THIS WORKS!!!!! As long as you have your clock set to "Show Always". Go to Setting, then select "Lock Screen", proceed to "Always On Display", then select "Clock", and "Show Always". BAM!!! As long as your clock is always displaying (even when screen is locked), your screen should no longer go gray.
Thank you so much :) this worked for me been having problems like for a couple weeks. First it was once a while but since 3 days havnt had a good screen even restart or shut down didnt work.
thank you so much for this. I was getting annoyed as hell. It is getting worse and worse. I don't care about slightly darker screen as long as it doesn't look like I'm in the matrix. You my friend are the champion of the people.
Thanks for sharing. It actually works on my note 9. I haven’t been able to use it for a long time because of the same issue and i just tried searching for a solution right now and it led me here. Very helpful.
I have this issue recently all of a sudden even though I didn't update the software. Just power off the phone and power it on again. It doesn't work if you do a restart, have to switch it off.
Bro I dropped my s9 and it slid 20 ft on concrete damaged the glass and I thought it was done I also had that green effect I finally got it to show a almost perfect screen I though I fixed it till I could and get new one but it would go back green to the green screen two three times an hour now that I watched your video it makes sense to what was going on thank you and keep up the good videos
This just started happening to my S9. Ive had it since S9 first released. Restarting the phone fixes it temporarily. when locking and unlocking the issue is back.
You are a lifesaver! Thanks to this trick I was able to get access long enough to back up all my data and photos. Strangely enough my pc would not recognize the usb connection to the phone since this problem started. I had to use the AirMore app to be able to export my stuff over Wifi
My phone had this discoloration issue intermittently but now it's permanent and it's out of warranty :( I doubt Samsung will do anything about it as they want you to go and buy their newer device...marketing shit
My S8 did same and I tried all the tricks but nothing worked, finally today bought new cell and when Factory Reset again it start working , Maybe this time I reset without Sim cards or It saw a new Cell
if you can manage to navigate the phone, go to settings and change the following: 1. immediately turn up the brightness, this will allow you to see onscreen even if the phone display goes green. 2. Turn of the adaptive display to ensure the phone does not set the brightness automatically. 3. turn on the "always display option" to always display info on your locked screen. Now when your screen is locked, tap the screen first and then proceed to unlock the phone This seems to sort out the colour problem everytime, just a nuisance to have to tap the screen before every unlock... this, however, makes the phone usable again and proves it is a software issue and not hardware.
I am doing so much of research and analysis on the screen, color and reboot loop problem of my Samsung Phone, I fear !!! soon I will become a scientist, and many countries will hunt me to give their prestigious awards.!!!!!
New Update August 3, 2020 phone is still working well, I even updated to One UI 2.1. Also, for those using Oled Screen saver, becareful as it can damage your screen in the long run. Quick update.... Out of nowhere my phone started working normally today. However, when I open the camera app... it goes back to the yellow screen with horizontal lines. Once I close the camera app, it goes back to normal. So, this is definately a software problem and not a hardware problem. Day 2, July 15, 2020. Phone is working perfectly. Opening the camera app no longer discolers the screen. Go figure
Can we disable this coil - wireles chager ? , i need to disable tat coil coz my note 9 gets green screen on middle drag, if i unplug tat coil display looks gud, bt i cant charge phone its showing temp low .. getme a solution to uninstall it ??
After having the phone for almost 5 years ( this year is the 5th) i started having this issue since last week, its not the update. Last update was in 2022. Its something to do with the sensors but like most people, my only solution was to close the screen and tap to wake screen up and then unlock the phone. Colors will be normal that way. If i do find any solution or fix, i will post under my comment. To me this phone gave me no issues for a long time, quite happy actually
Note 9 here with the same issue. I switched to Samsung after the Apple i-phone software update throttling scandal, now i feel cheated by Samsung too. This issue should be raised to Samsung for resolution via a social media campaign
what I did notice is when it happens I take it out the case turn off the screen and press hard on the back and rub the font on my shirt its def a heat issue.. I have never updates my software I am stilll on oreo 8.1.0
Guys my phone become a green screen almost 2 month. Then 1day, i accidendly turning selfie mode camera + flash then my phone turn to normal screen but i need to repeat the same step if i lock my phone.
Set your brighness to lowest or maximum, it will solve the problem as i just notice after i buy new handphone and try to sync the data from note 9 . For me, i will ban samsung forever even though the cost of replacement screen is cheaper then buy a new device. All this happend after march patch update. It samsung fault and yet they still denie on it and still charge for screen replacement.
God damn it Samsung. Issue is so widespread. My Galaxy A30s also starting to show gray out screen. Sometimes there's a jolt at top left of the screen when turn on and off the screen. This all happened after applying the January 2022 update I believed.
The ones comenting below to use Oled saver STOP! Oled saver is shit... screen looks cheap and screenshots look like shit. Just stop recommending it. Contact Samsung so they can see that a lot of people are facing this problem after their shitty update.
I have the same issue. I did a sensor test, when I cover the sensor during the test, my screen goes green and vibrates. I asked a Question by a tech repair office, they mentioned it's not software, they said due to my test results, it's appearing to be hardware is of the light sensor. Any advice anyone?
THANK YOU ! I have the same issue in May 2020, after the March and May patches - its frustrating - Its only 11 months old - and when I went to the Samsung shop , they service guy told me it was a screen damage (SGD 315 repair) and denied a software issue even though I explained to him there are similar cases online. What a clueless #@$%. Thats the problem with Samsung - always slow to act and always in denial and cover ups Another friend had similar issue - and screen went black after 24 hours) The latest software patch also destroyed the menus for the edge menu - brilliant high IQ patch
Lots of comments are recently, it shows that this problem happened to us at same time. It couldnt be hardware problem. Yet, Samsung not even bother addressing this issue, same issue happened to S20 but they re so quick to release a patch. Note 9 just two years old, and they dont even bother to support it anymore. #FuckSamsung Also please tell your experience with this issue at this Twitter post to help more people noticing this issue. twitter.com/VANtiladorrr/status/1265250252761624576?s=19
Here in after I definitely encourage everyone that I know not buying Samsung , I've had so far three sad similar experience with Note4, Note5 and now Note9, this brand sucks!
Any news on software update? This problem just happened to me 2 days ago. I install Oled Saver, but the screen looks like shit. Not even comparable to the original screen. When you take screenshots, they look like crap. Any new news? I have searched Samsumg pages and twitter and I don't see any news on this problem.
@@stevenwelcome8238 i have the same issue..just 1 month after my warranty end i got this issue 1week ago..today i got a new update..seem like its not about the update..the hardware itself got problem..so sad this good phone have this kind of problem..
It actually the sensors if you turn off adaptive brightness and turn up the brightness it works.. if you turn on adaptive brightness and cover sensors it work it may be the cache ...try clearing it
A #Note 20 ultra, Snapdragon, US version, here... It seems that the #yellow #discoloration is a software issue that #AMOLED display loses the true black color
This my third strike with a Samsung phone. I have this S9 which I bought from a trustworthy friend and it worked incredibly well for a week. It was my alternative to replacing my iPhone SE with the new iPhone SE 2020 model. The S9 was a cheaper and what appeared to be a better choice as opposed to shelling out the money for a new iPhone SE. I was impressed by the S9 but then disappointed when the incredibly crisp and bright display went green and grainy and dim shortly after updating to the latest software. I am not an Apple fan but experience tells me that they are the better or at least most reliable of two evils. I tried to roll back the update following a youtube video but it always fails. Finding out the S9 isn't compatible with the DJI Drone software I use is another major disappointment. Enough time wasted on this.
Just look at the number of people who viewed this video .Every samsung flagship has this problem with a software update at the end of warrenty period. Experienced Long term samsung user.
Yes. This is the only one which works and works better than any other solution given here for me at least. But service centre visit looks to be on cards for a permanent fix
You sexy-voiced legend! Thanks so much for this tip. I can't afford to replace it right now and your solution is working a treat. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would probably end up going back to iPhone instead of fooling around with junk or try to find me a Galaxy S5 from on line. I am not an iPhone fan, but I need a phone that's going to last especially since I got rid of my landline. These cellphones are too expensive to be nothing but junk! They need to be more dependable.
So I own an A72 6GB and phone was working very good for like 3ish months and then by accident I mange to scratch it a little but no harm done its just a small inch line and then an update came out and after I download the update my screen started to show some weird stuff like rgb was gone on my screen was only full black and white and it happens too often sometimes it happens 10-15 times in a minute sometimes it doesnt happen for couple of days and comes back if I for exp. wanna send a snap or play a game. So I was so worried at first like I manage to fuck my phone then last night at work I manage to drop my phone again only this time it scratched on bottom right but phone and touch screen are working fine and yet my screen was looking like a ddos attack when I picked it up. I googled everything up then I realised am not the only who has this issue..so idk what should I do now I even try to reset it to factory settings and put it back and as I was setting up phone again same thing happen then I knew its the phone and not the scratches which led to this messed up situation
My s10 plus also become like this today..exactly 1 month out of warranty..previously same happen with my note 8..i think its the oled screen issue..even with careful usage (brightness below 50%), even with reset, hard reset its not fix..ask the samsung members, they advised to replace the screen..never buy phone with oled screen again..
Mine fixed on it's own. I left it on AOD (always on display) for a whole day and it was corrected. Yours may take more than a day to fix but it worked for me Hope this helps❤
Guys, from reading the comments I've concluded this is a software update issue, not hardware. I have as S9+ its been nearly three years now, everything has been absolutely flawless until now. Today i was at work and started browsing and i noticed it was getting hotter than usual, it never gets hot like this, even after extended use or charging (i dont even use any fadt charge, i totally baby it) I got worried and noticed that after disabling and enabling blue light filter back, the colors got weird. Blue ligjt filter always had this nice, kind of crepuscular orangeish tone to it and the screen has always been very sharp, but after turning it on again it became some sort of a light greenish light, looks weird as hell now, with or without the filter. Mind it that this phone handles even gps use on Waze or Google Maps like a champ, it doesn't get too hot... But now just to type this comment here it seems that it is stressing the hell out of the battery and it already lost like 5% of it just to type. It happened after a couple days after the last update. Its not just your brand news phones guys, my S9+ is also going hot and greenish/greyish... What the fuck Samsung!? Fix this or I'll go something else next! Its been flawless all this time! Now everybody's phones goes crap like that?
What makes me specially disappointed with this is not the phone itself, is the fact that i really took good care of it all this time, only charged it between 30% to 85% of the battery to maximize its life, whore good protective screens and cases... and the phone responded to it all, it wasn't the phone or me, it was a Samsung's fucked up update that screwed it up. If i only knew before they would upload a "virus" to ruin my phone i wouldn't have minded taking care of it at all, in fact i would have picked another brand. And i thought only Apple where assholes to fuck people's phones deliberately, but Samsung too? Im so disappointed right now...
@@alanramone4263 Not in this way man, this was not an Oled burn issue or overtime problem. When an Oled or Amoled screen burns out, it doesn't happen evenly, you can detect more or less affected spots on it, like burning in the screen small circles where your apps normally sit on the screen. In this case, its an entire color shift in the entire screen after a "security update" took place, not to mention that 3 year old Note 8's and 9's around the world alongside with many brand new S10's, S20's and even the S20 Ultra displayed the same issue after the patch update took place however since these new phones are still under store warranty they rushed to release a fix patch for the current flagship models out there to avoid returning items, the same cannot be told about models out of warranty. Fun fact: samsung supplies high end screens for other phone brands. Doing a quick search i found that many other phone brand users whose phones have high end oled displays had the same issues immediately after recent updates. This happened in late 2018 and now twice in 2020; march, right after the S20 lineup releae and June. In my country this new patch only came late November. It's not the hardware failling but the recent android updates are interfering with their functions. Whether or not it is intentional we won't be able to tell. My S9+ has been nothing but wonders for almost three years but immediately after a software update 26/Nov it went bad. And im not the only one. And... they also released patch fixes for the S20 ultra and Note 20 ultras immediately, S10's too right after... if it was a hardware going bad a patch wouldn't be able to fix it.
I don't know for sure, but I'm afraid this is a hardware problem. Something's wrong with how the display is starting up, not the panel itself. If you power the display off and on too quickly it triggers the green screen. Fixes like using always-on display only temporarily reduce the issue by adding a gap when the screen is off. If you're in a call and using the proximity sensor it easily triggers it if you move your head around.
@@sudanile1 yes, I updated my note 9 last aprill 22 then it started to have issues already after the update until I can't use it anymore because it is turning yellowish. I try the solution provided in this video and now I can use it but it is hard to use in direct sunlight.
This video was a lifesaver didn't know it was adaptive brightness just noticed it happened after a phone call sometimes till it got worse. How can we fix the adaptive brightness though I didn't have this problem a year ago. Is there a software or hardware update?
Actually; The only problem I had with my Note 9 that was purchased brand new was a defected screen. It had a deep smudge across the Center of the screen. However, if you apply a protective screen, it cannot be seen. I made them replace my screen.
Samsung just ignore this issue and not admitting its software issue. If its hardware issue, how come app like OLED Saver can fix this screen issue. Fucking Samsung
@@jonathanbody3973 Yup they won't admit it.This has happened with so many phones all around the same time. Its the update not the hardware. If this isn't fixed i will be going with apple.the note 9 wasn't a cheap phone when it came out.
I m also facing the same problem....I have Note 9.... Factory reset se bhi koi faayda nahi hua....Samsung Members app pe ja kar complain karo.....Taaki wo software update se fix kare ye problem....
No need to turn your always on display on. I just send a text message to myself then quickly turn off the screen an when I receive the message I unlock the screen. So far the quick fix has worked a 100% of the time. Pass the message along until the issue is fixed.
It is only the exynos processor, not snapdragon processor. Unfortunately, you all were cheated by buying Note 9 with exynos processor! Snapdragon processor doesn't have that problem!
Whenever your screen get green, lock your phone while Turning on always on display.. then unlock your phone with finger sensor or tapping the screen (depend on setting)
In my case. I turned on Always on Display, so when i tap the screen clock etc shows, then after unlocking, everything works perfect. But in my case phone not alwys unlock with fucked screen. Anyway, this was not cheap phone when I bought it and I expect that everything works perfect for that kind of money...... I have just tested a little bit more and it looks like there is better solution. You can select Always show, show main screen button (sorry for translation) and (I hope) it will never broke again. You have to wait around one second after locking phone for this button to show, before unlocking
you saved my life sir... on this lockdown, my phone is the only way I can order my food. Really samsung??? really??? Edit: on the other note, how to turn off the adaptive display can be done using double click power button camera feature (camera still accessible) and swipe the menu down from camera app. No need to cover the adaptive sensor whatsoever
It worked for me but the screen is too dark . I turn adaptive bottom off and slide the brightness all the to the right and screen is bright and usable but the quality of color is definitely not as good as before but it's absolutely usable, SAMSUNG SUCKS, this company doesn't even address this kind of problem to show its responsibility to their customers, as a long time samsung customer I give up and switch to other brands,..... SO ANGRY!!!!
I was shocked to see my phone discolored with lines and mainly has a green tone. Your hack worked and I didn't need to lower my brightness. I just really had to turn my adaptive brightness off. I hope it doesn't happen again! 🤕
Turn off aways on display and then turn off your display After that, with the display off you need to use a wrong finger on the fingerprint scanner 5 times until it automatically turns on the display and shows a pop-up message saying that you've tried to unlock it 5 times without success. Then turn on the screen immediately and this should "fix" the problem
@@AnguiXDd uninstalled oled saver and tried your method. It only works the first time and screen looks normal but thereafter it the same problem. I reinstalled oled saver again
Thank you so much for this, it solved my problem! I was barely able to use my phone before this because it wouldn't respond. Hope they fix this issue soon though. The moment I try to increase brightness the issue comes back :(
abdur rahman Try to reduce your screen brightness. You’ll need to turn off the adaptive brightness, otherwise it won’t work. If your adaptive brightness is currently turned on, you might need to cover the sensors (as demonstrated in the video) in order to reach the settings.
Same here! Customer service on Samsung live chat confirmed that they have received report on this from users of various models. Some were resolved through doing reset, others had to get software update or screen replacement, so there's no fixed answer. You can try to contact Samsung for help :) For mine, all the troubleshooting did not work, so the CS advised me to visit the service centre for further diagnosis
