Thank you so much! I did all this, but frig still wasn’t cooling. Took the panel with fan off again and noticed that the red wire for fan had snapped. Stripped wire, reinserted and superglued it in. Put panel back in an hour later. Frig was 57 degrees at 8:45. At 11 am back to 38. Hallelujah. 7 year old side-by-side.
We don’t have the same model but we “HAD” the same issue. Thank you for posting this video. You helped and saved me money. DO IT YOURSELF WARRIORS STICK TOGETHER!!!!😎
I just literally had to do this and yes the whole back panel was frozen. We had a repair come today and say he need to change Evap cover for $185 not including the $135 repair cost, and the 69 diagnostic fee.. I said absolutely NOT. Husband also told me the guy didn't even take off the whole back panel so how would have guessed what the problem was.. I am soooo grateful for your video!!!!!
I'm glad for any savings on unnecessary repairs Shay,I think it's the technicians giving "thumbs down"on the feedback. It may happen again but now you have an idea of the quick fix. Glad to help.
This fixed the problem. It was on a different Samsung model but mostly the same configuration. I have a handy husband and we generally try to fix things ourselves. You gave good instructions and we were able to fix it. The most difficult part is removing the cover. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Gail, hang in there because it just might freeze over again, humidity in the summer is the worst. Nice to have a handy husband but be ready to do it yourself next time because it happens unexpectedly.
Thank you so much for this video. We have a Samsung RS265TDRS, with the double doors (one side freezer, and the other side refrigerator), and your clear and concise instructions saved us several hundred dollars in repair bills. However, let's face it, if the repair person who showed up was incompetent, we would have ended up spending several thousand dollars on a new refrigerator. Bless you!
THANK YOU SIR! You just saved me from a huge bill. Had the same problem and it wound up being exactly as you showed in this video. My fridge side is cooling normally again and the fan is back at work. Just a note, if you own one of these Samsung fridges and you start to hear a little rattle/clanking sound in your fan, check it for ice BEFORE it freezes up and stops turning.
You fully understand what is happening to your fridge before it even happens. My wife hates that fan noise when it starts chipping on the ice formation. It's a manufacturers defect that may continue. But not so scary when you can fix it yourself. Not a bad fridge otherwise. Paul
Thank you so much! This video was a lifesaver. My 10 year old, 8 year old, and I fixed our fridge while my hubby was at work... feeling super accomplished today thanks to you! :)
Thank God for you, because a repair company was about to charge me 675.00 for the exact same problem with my 2 year old Samsung. My son and I followed your steps. And now my refrigerator is working and cooling great. Thanks again.
My parents Whirlpool did the same, hence why I got a Samsung well it's a common problem for those types of fridges. Kenmore and Insignia brands don't last.
Thanks for the video. My Samsung was different model. The freezer was fine, but fridge was at 60 degrees. Taking the shelves out, and looking at the back panel, could see that there was ice inside one of the screw holes and ice at bottom. Was unable to fully take the back panel off (unscrew 4 screws, but something else was stuck). So did the following. Unplug the fridge overnight. Food in freezer will be OK for 24 hours. Took out the fridge food, and put things that would spoil in a mini-fridge. Left the fridge door open overnight, and stuck a towel at the bottom of the backpanel to prop it open a bit (and collect water). In the morning the fridge was back in working order. So thanks for the video, I think leaving it the door open with fridge unplugged had same affect as your de-icing via hair dryer (which I used on the iced up screw holes). Also note - not 100% sure about this, but think this may have been caused by using the "power cool", which can drop (at least on my fridge) temp below freezing.
@@ChienNguyen-sy6bp I think the fan was not working when it was iced up. After leaving fridge door open with power off, it de iced. It worked fine the next morning, and has worked since I de iced it.
I love this guy! About to try his solution right now. Even if it doesn't work I still think he's great. Samsung, however, sucks. I will never buy another Samsung product.
Thanks for your video.I have the same unit you do. I woke up this morning from my wife telling me there is something wrong with the refrigerator seems to be very warm. Of course it is Christmas Eve. and we have all of the family and a full fridge. I tore apart and it was exactly what you showed on this vid. Took apart an hour and things are back up and running. You saved our Christmas! thanks jL
Oh man JL your story makes it all worth while. My ten year old daughter came in with an iPad device and said lets make a RU-vid video on how you fix the fridge and this is how it turned out. She said its kinda silly but let's edit it a little and post it. 33K views and counting. I'm glad we did. Paul
This video ROCKS! Thank you and a big thumbs up!! I followed the manual instructions of unplugging for 24 hours and then trying, no luck. I then called a service tech out of the house who had me do the exact same thing and said if that did not work, then I had a bad compressor. He said the cost and repair of a compressor is nearly the cost of buying a new refrigerator. Unfortunately he was clueless and it cost me $100 for the "service" call but at least I found this video and it now works fine. You saved me a lot of money and stress, so I appreciate the time you took to make this!
Good job Allen I think the thumbs down come from technicians, The fridge might do it again but now you know how you just Gotta be ready. Thanks for the feedback it makes my day
Thanks for this video you just saved us $3000.00 We live in Australia and several repair technicians were not interested in working on a Samsung. Our side by side is 10 years old and the freezer was working but not the fridge. Your method worked a treat and it’s now working perfectly. Thank you so much.
omg. . ty so much..im a 34 year old single female and your video definitely worked..Samsung was sending a technician out 2 days from now (ofcoarse all $10 of my groceries would have expired). Your video saved me hundreds. Thankkkk you soooo much because I would have definitely been pissed if they would have came to my house and told me to let my refrigerator thaw after I paid my deposit, not including parts or labor. Thank you so much I'm very grateful!
Than you. You save me a lot of money with this video. The place where a purchase the fridge wanted me to buy insurance for hundreds of dollars a year. I was just about to call a technician, tomorrow morning. instead I'll be working on my fridge. Thanks again.
Buy other brands. Samsung refs have the worst problems. I bought mine in dec 2015 and last year it started to give me problems. The worst is internal problem, of which it can no longer be repaired. Waste of time and money.
Had the exact same problem. Fan started to make loud sputtering noises and than finally stopped. Noticed the top portion of the fridge was no cooling as well as the bottom despite the internal temperature reading at 34 degrees. Using your instructions I was able to take apart my fridge, defrost the fan and other parts, and put it all back together. Within an hour after plugging it back in temperature's were back to normal and air ventilation to the top of the fridge was good again. THANK YOU! Note to others doing this: The back panel on your fridge has Styrofoam insulation. Depending on how frozen the panel is it may be hard to notice at first but if the panel does not want to come off easily keep using the hair dryer to warm the plate and send hot air in between. I accidently tore a small portion of the Styrofoam because it was literally frozen to the plastic wall of the fridge. (Thankfully some super glue put it back together lol). He makes it look easy in the video but it took me about 30 minutes of heating/gentle prying before I was able to get the panel off successfully.
I had been noticing our water bottles in the fridge not getting as cold as they used to. Woke up one day with light blinking on screen and fridge was warm. Wife said should we repair or not worth it and just get a new fridge. I didn’t want to just spent +$1,000. So I searched and found your video. Once I took the cover off it was almost completely frozen fan couldn’t even spin. You saved me so much money thanks for the vid. My fridge is the RS263TDPN. Thanks again
This morning I wanted to cry, we had tried everything yesterday to get the fridge working and knowing I couldn’t afford a new one, my last hope was RU-vid, we have a different model Samsung but same set up…..thank you soooooo much from England, we now have a lovely cold fridge, fantastic video!!!!!
I've been looking for this video last year and unfortunately I couldn't find it!! I ended up calling a technician and was asked to leave the fridge open and unplugged for several days. The technician ended up saying it was the motherboard and needed replacing. $450 later, the fridge was fixed but I guess I would have fixed it when I defrosted for several days myself. Fortunately this happened in the middle of winter and all my food was just sitting in the patio at refrigerator temperature. 6 months later it's happening again and my wife is yelling wanting a new fridge. First search and I found you!! THANK YOU so much!! You just saved me from buying a new fridge. I just came back from the hospital with a new born so I'll be working on this while bright and early tomorrow!!
Im sure you have fixed this by now but posting this for others that may have the same or similar model. On the RS267LASH you can hold power freeze and power cool down for a few seconds, not sure how many but you will see the display go into diagnostic mode to get an error code, the position of the small line, looks like a dash, determines the actual error. In my case it was error code 7 which is for refrigerator defrost error. You can google your model and get instructions on how to get the specific unit into diagnostic. It will also show you what number by dash position for error codes. After repaired you can hold the power freeze and power cool buttons down again for a few seconds, not sure how many, you will see the panel on the front go back to default settings and see actual numbers again. If you have persistent issues with this then you may need to replace and or relocate the defrost sensor. You can also check the defrost heater unit by checking continuity. If it reads like 367 or so resistance, I think it is (may want to double check my number here), then the defrost heater is ok. Also check the thermostats and make sure they aren't rubbing a hole in the tubing. They shouldn't be touching the tubing, if they do, over time, they will wear a hole in the tubing and leak refrigerant. You can test the thermostats by placing them in a small glass of ice water for a few minutes then check for continuity, once the thermostats are below 30 degrees farenheight, should read zero resistance if working properly. Depending on your specific model there may be a kit to relocate or replace a faulty sensor and displaced gasket. This is a common problem with lots of different Samsung refrigerators as well as others these days. Be sure all gaskets are in place properly when reassembling to avoid circulation issues. Improper circulation and poor directional airflow can cause the units to freeze up more often. Proper spacing around the unit will also assist in better circulation of air. Be sure the drain hole in the bottom isn't frozen leading to the evaporation pan before putting the fan housing back on.
I was going to make this video today and looks like you beat me to it. Just a quick shout out to Flip to say thanks and your video is spot on for this model. In my experience, my wife and I noticed the fridge making some noise about 2 weeks prior to not cooling at all. This was the fan trying to cut through ice and keep working. Because I was so busy I didn't have time to defrost, so I let it go and ended up having to rip it apart.
Went home last night and tried this fix. I happy to say that this issue is now resolved. Paul I appreciate your help and you saved our family between 300 to 400 dollars yesterday. THANKS AGAIN!
Thank you so much!! I can home yesterday to my refrigerator fan going bananas. After watching your video, it took me about two hours to defrost the fan and inner workings of my refrigerator. You saved me $200 in groceries and god only knows how much in service costs. Thank you!!! Very helpful!!! And now I feel I know a little more about my refrigerator and won’t be so scared to fix something in the future. Thank you again.
I was looking to buy a new fridge since mine was not cooling. I watched your video and removed the covers and found that the fan motor and the coils were iced over. We used the hair dryer to melt the ice and then put it back together and everything works fine. Thank you so much you saved me a lot of money.
Even though this video was not for my exact model(RS277), it however guided me to a successful repair as most of the components were very similar. Once I got the ice out, and reassembled the fridge started working perfectly. 12 year fridge now fully operational again. Thanks Flip.
Thank you for this informative and at times very entertaining video. I followed your directions last night and my fridge miraculously came back to life.
Awesome video! Straightforward & to the point. We have same fridge. Do this while my son is at work. Mixed emotions during this chore, however I am so glad I spend an hour or so getting the fridge cooling again instead of spending hundreds of dollars. Our fridge does this at least once a month. We live in So.Texas. Thank you so much for giving your audience confidence sir. Appreciate you acknowledging techs needing to make a living but when you don't have extra money... this is the way.(btw) I'm 68, retired mom. If I can follow your instructions, & finish this diy chore anyone surely can. You've kept it simple.
Good job on getting it done, you have humidity there which is something we don’t deal with here on west coast. My daughter filmed this and posted it for, all for fun but it turned out to be so helpful to thousands including you. Thanks for the reply.
hi there, i just want to say that your a amazing person for putting this video up. My fridge was playing up and currently i'm so poor that i would not have been able to get a engineer out. Your video was spot on, the hairdryer was genius and I just wanted to thank you so very much. God bless you !!
THANK YOU! The condo I bought has this fridge and after three years, started to notice a very warm fridge. I Googled, found your video, let it defrost overnight. Only cost was $14.99 for the hair dryer! You’re a dollar saver for sure! Appreciated!
I followed your instructions today and found lots of ice behind that panel. It's all back together now, and seems to be working fine. Thanks for the video!
Thanks. We've had our Samsung for seven years and haven't had a problem. Your video saved us several hundred dollars. Appreciate it. Although, I didn't expect to spend the day defrosting the refrigerator. We are up and running just fine.
Thank you! 2-1/2 hrs. and no technician’s bill. 3/10 Sunday, you are THE MAN. Sure, after you said; so easy a two yr old could do it... you had me. You shamed me in to doing this. Thanks again!
Excellent video! This fixed my fridge too! Very grateful for this! Thank you! (PS, when I was all done with the defrost and put the panel back on, my fridge didn't work right away. I plugged it back in and the lights came on, but fridge didn't start back up. My fridge needed to be plugged in for 5 minutes before the sensors told the motor to get back to work.)
Sir your video is awesome and so simple to understand it👏 . My first thought was to replace my 3 year old refrigerator. Samsung really don’t help and they want to refer you to a technician full of complaints in google. U saved me a $1,600. GOD BLESS YOU!
After seeing this video i went to my Samsung fridge and found the same thing. This is why i went to RU-vid, because the fixes on just about everything can be found there. Thank you very much.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!! I fixed my refrigerator because of your video. I have a slightly different model than yours. Mine is RS265TDRS(in case someone else with this model has the same issue). I only have this refrigerator for a few years and all of the sudden it stopped working. Without your video and clear instructions, I would've to spend hundreds of dollars to have someone to come out and fix it if not buying a new one. Everything you mentioned in the video was EXACTLY what happened to mine. Ice was all over the panel and most importantly, all over the fan. It took me 2 hours to melt the ice and took the panel off. So for those of you having a hard time removing the panel, well, it took me a long time as well. You just have to be patient. But at the end it's all worth it. You have saved me money(potentially a repair cost or a new refrigerator), headache and time! I can't thank you enough, Paul. If you have an address, I would love to send you a bottle of wine. :)
Ah shucks, your heartfelt comments make my my day..my ten year old daughter just started recording me fixing it again then she edited and posted it. The problem may come back but now you know what to do. We had absolutely no idea it would reach 105,000 views and counting. Perhaps technicians are giving thumbs down? I still like my Samsung. Paul
Just adding to what everybody else is saying, THANKS A LOT! Still getting a new refrigerator, but this one works again and is going outside to my garage. 👍
I have had this problem several times with the same refrigerator purchased in 2013. I watched the service man fix it. He said that this has been a major problem with this refrigerator. He sold me a service contract to "save me money". Samsung has not owned up to this problem. This time, the fan appeared to be striking the assembly plate. I ordered a new assembly which is supposed to come tomorrow. I will have to pull off some of the foam insulation to run the wire in a groove. duct tape should hold it. Thank you for your video.
Sounds like you still pulled it apart and figured out the problem enough to fix it! The technicians don’t like when you do this that’s why they give me a thumbs down. I’m sure you save your self hundreds by doing it yourself.
My freezer side froze. I just held my ladies hair dryer into one of the vents and it melted out and started working again. Thanks for the help. Wouldn't have thought of that on my own.
Wow! Thank you so much for the easy to follow video, my fridge is working perfect now and you have saved me and my husband time and money. Thanks so much
Thanks for the video we just spent over 400 bucks on food to wake up to a mostly warm fridge this is the first video on my same modle fridge and this was exactly my problem you just saved me a G thank you
Just thought I'd let you know I was in the parking lot about to go in and pick out a new fridge when I decided to do a quick search to see if my lack of cooling issue was common. I came across your video and decided to go back home and give it a go as I needed a working fridge today. Sure enough everything was iced up. Followed your video and it's back in business! First time in 6 years it's iced up, hopefully it's not a recurring issue but now I know what to look for. Thanks for saving me from spending a grand or more on another not built to last heap they try to pass off as appliances these days.
Wow this makes it worth it all. It may happen again but now you can fix it. Thanks for sharing your own fix it story, I think the thumbs down are the techs.
@@FlipsFix lol could be - who knows how many replacement fridges you've single handedly cost them - certainly more than a few from a quick look at the comments. Bravo sir! Thanks again. 😉
Man,I just watched your video and did exactly what you explained. The fan was frozen over. Thank you,you saved me some money on calling out a technician. I appreciate you and this video.
Thank you from Canada. I got mine back together and the ice out. Can't tell if the fan motor is gone, but will probably take time to cool down. Just waiting to see in a couple hours if the fridge cools off again
thanks mate, i just had my fridge not cool down below 14 degrees celcius, being the holiday season i couldn't get anyone out, i googled it and saw your vid, even though my Samsung is a different model worked a charm, mine had ice in the actual screw holes even. Thanks you saved me rushing out to buy another fridge to replace it
Thank you so very much! You saved us a lot of money! : ) We followed your instructions precisely. It took less than an hour from start to finish and our refrigerator is now working again! Thank you for being so generous and sharing your knowledge! We are truly grateful!
Almost spent twelve-hundred bucks today on a new fridge. On a whim I looked up the problem on RU-vid. Boom! Here is your video. Same fridge, same problem. Followed your video, low and behold, fridge is up and running 100%. Thank you so much!! I owe you a beer!
This video is nice .you explaned as good as possible and you're right everyone does what they want and they don't have to complain about your video for no reason and I'm glad you don't care about what people say. Thank you for taking your time to teach out extra things
Flip, thanks so much for the video! I had the same classic symptoms, heard some strange fan noises for a few days, then noticed that my milk was warmer than normal, but the freezer was working fine. Mines a similar RS267TDBP. This is the first time its done it in 5 years. Thanks again!
hey man. thanks a lot, you saved me from spending some big bucks, I was about to scrap my fridge just for this little problem I really appreciate this. thank you again.
Hey man... thanks for this video! I have the same fridge with the same symptoms. Your tutorial was exactly what I needed. Mine now works as it should. Thanks again!
Thanks for the feedback Todd this was a total spur of the moment video that my 10-year-old daughter and I made it seems to be helping folks like you. Just hang in there it may happen again.
Thank you! This was my problem EXACTLY! I was able to fix it just like you showed in the video. We have had the fridge for 6 years and this is the first time it broke. Was soooo grateful not to have spent any money. Again, thanks!
Hey man, same problem on a similar model. Your video saved me $300. Exact same problem, ice in the fan. Originally thought a bearing went out, now I know. Thanks.
Thank you for the information, I have an Samsung RS267. I wish I found this before the tech came out. He said the compressor was bad which is no longer available so new frig. what he said made no sense as my freezer was still working. I removed everything and behold ice build up. Defrosted everything and I now have cold air coming out the frig vents again.
Thank you so much. My parents have the same exact fridge and it started messing up within the first year they got it. They quickly got it repaired because it had warranty at the time, but now that it's up, we were about to spend who knows how much to get it fixed. This has been happening frequently, so we were just about to get a new fridge and call it a day. Luckily after showing my dad this video he went and copied all that you did and now it cools again.
Thanks - Yous just saved me a lot of money and kept a freezer full of food from spoiling since a Samsung repair person was not available until after the weekend. I have a split top and bottom drawer unit about 2 years old. Now I am concerned though that, if that is a regular problem with Samsung fridge/freezers, the next time this happens I might not be home and can't trust the equipment. I think I will stay away from Samsung products. I also have nothing but problems with their dishwasher, even though the service people have come out to repair a half a dozen times, it is still not working. Thanks again for the video.
Well it looks like I am joining the long list of people who you've helped. Thank you very much. Mine was a bit more complicated, but still it wasn't too hard.
This video has helped me sooooo much. I have a Samsung American style fridge freezer, and the fridge number was blinking and food was going off. I took the contents out such as the food and shelves. Then unscrewed the necessary parts and then saw ice in there and used a hairdryer as well. Then once I de-iced the fridge, I replaced everything and it worked. It is slowly getting colder but is works! This video has saved me loads of money! Thank you sooooo much!
Antonia PandaCat, keep that blow dryer close by because it may happen again especially when it’s hot and humid. But now you know what to do. Congrats on fixing it for now.
Worked for us on a Saturday Night! Great video. I could hear my fan making a strange noise earlier in the week and then noticed my temp reading flashing when i checked it. Refrigerator not cooling. Hair dryer did the trick!
Great Video!! I watched, I followed step by step, and I fixed my Samsung RS267. You just saved me $$$$$ because my husband and son were trying to get me to buy a new one. Thank You!!!
I know the frustration it's worldwide. Samsung needs to pay attention and make an upgraded part available. I'm hoping someone out there will put up a video that eliminates this problem for good. Otherwise it's a very good refrigerator. Thanks for the thumbs up .
thank you very, my refrigerator side is not cooling, so I will do what you did and hopefully it will work. my refrigerator only five years old and I already have several problems with it. it is Samsung RS265TDRS. Anyway, thank you very much, I appreciate what you have shown us. Have a good day.
Hang in there might happen again specially in the summer or during monsoon. Season the humidity collects fast. Glad you did it yourself and saved some money.
Thank you 100% worked for us. we do not live in a place that has high humidity but we have has a lot of rain the last few weeks so we did not even consider that it might be frozen. But it was. all defrosted now and working again like new. cant thank you enough
Thank you! Fridge stopped working, used your video and now it works again. Had to do this last year too. What a pain in the butt these fridges are. Next time i will wait for the husband to do it 😁
Well it was my 10 year old daughter who decided to film me doing this then editing and posted it all on her own. Had no idea it would go anywhere. But my 3 daughters all ride motocross, race mountain bikes, do construction and blow things up in the desert. My only son just watches in amazement.
Thank you posting the video! We followed the steps exactly and found the ice blocking the fan. The video is great. Our refrigerator is up and running. Thank you again.
Duolan, see Doulan I knew you could do it. It's frustrating when it happens but at least you understand how to fix it and you're saving some cash. Probably will happen again so keep that in mind my friend. Paul
