I wonder why Otterbox went with the full square cutout around cameras instead of just circles for each cameras lens to match the new design of the cameras.
Probably something about extra contact points between the lenses being more likely to damage them instead of all in one recessed space like the current design has.
@@CrowOnTheWall mate. UAG and spigen has individual cutouts and they are guaranteed to be much more protective than these things. Much better looking too
Love the video! You helped me decide on which case I'm going to get. One thing though, I believe the kickstand on the Defender cases is the clip on the holster. If you open the clip as much as possible, it should lock into an open position providing a kickstand.
I used to carry my all phones and tablets with the Defender series cases since the BlackBerry Bold 8700 came out, then my first galaxy phones, then my iPhones and iPads. But since otterbox decided to remove the build in screen protector of the Defender from the Galaxy S9 plus and up, I switched to the Strada Series for my phones, I hope the “flap” on the S22 ultra does not became an issue for me when takin it in and do out my pocket.
nice review! I always had defenders for my cases and loved them but this time I went with the commuter. Bad choice that case is slippery to hold and the upper sides of the case has a soft weak point and the camera corner has little to next to no protection. Friend recommended the supcase unicorn beetle pro and what a great case!
My wife's phone was in a commuter and someone drunkenly frisbeed it into a brick chimney and the phone survived unscathed. However I do agree in personally prefering the defenders.
Thank you for the review, though my father recently dropped his S22 Ultra on concrete and the screen suffered greatly, even damaging the back glass. It was in a Defender Pro Case, yet it seemingly did nothing. At least for curved-edge phones, in my experience, Otterbox cases have gone down a level or two in quality for frontal drops.
Agreed, my samsung S8+ suffered screen smashes due to the curved screen design. these cases are fundamentally flawed & do not offer optimal front protection.
@@chriscarey5728 I got a Caseborn V, It's a two-port case and it has full front protection. It protects the edges while still allowing you to access the curved parts of the screen.
I still have and use the Strada case on my S22 Ultra , I'm loving it , I use it for casual wear, shine it up for dress wear and it's excellent for work for ultimate protection ... You never need a screen protector with this case, total protection around the whole phone... I don't mind the square in this around the camera lenses because I have more space to work with when comes down to cleaning the lenses off 👍🏾
I remember having an otterbox with my Note 9, and showing off to my friends how good the case is by just dropping my phone onto asphalt from chest height. One of my friends saw me doing this and decided to do it with his phone too. He broke his screen lol.
I chose the UAG Urban Armor Gear at the end of the day, as you showed on your previous video. I "cheaped" out a little by going for the Polycarb with leather vs. Kevlar. Both are rated for 20' drops!!! I am happy so far. Thanks for the reviews!
I've used the Defender the past 5 or so years and they are definitely worth the price. I once forgot to snap the holder down on my motorcycle one night and took off. The phone immediately dropped out of my stem mount phone holder at 45 MPH and bounced down the road 😑. I ride with cameras rolling and it was a sight to see that phone bouncing along. Phone was perfectly fine when I went back to get it though. Never will use anything because that was the ultimate test in my book 🤣
I picked up the defender pro plus for s22 ultra and after using it for a month or so I took it apart and checked out my phone, the case leaves little small scratches on it front back and sides because it has a tiny bit of wiggle room that allows it to move slightly or whatever and it scratches up your phone over time.
I've got the Defender Pro in the standard black color and the Fort Blue Defender Pro. I've kinda grown pretty fond of the blue and gray accent. The black one also looks good I just like having a different look. Gotta love a thiccc case lol.
You're using the holster wing as a kickstand. If you open the clip all the way, it locks in the open configuration to use as a kickstand, and to close you just press the top of the mechanism to release the lock
I have the defender for my s21 ultra, did roofing work last summer and i accidentally dropped it from the roof onto the grass, it protected my phone, not looking to go for the cement test just yet lol
Exactly. Glad you mentioned it as all reviewers are missing that critical point. I like the Strada but I want full S pen functionality and now struggling to find a wallet/folio case that doesn't interfere with that. Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thank you for a thorough review! I decided to buy the cheaper "Strada Via" cover because I don't care if it is leather or not. Big mistake! It does not have a snug fit like the more exclusive Strada shown in the video. The edges are very excessive making the big phone even more clumsy.
tight fit clear symmetry cases are pointless, they don't absorb the shock impact force at all, as if they are not there, all they do is protect from scratches in pocket. I just shattered my phone screen accidentally dropping it within a clear case. You need hard plastic and rubber combination case with some space inside, to absorb the impact energy and protect the phone.
I'm not crazy about Otterbox's camera protection for this phone... they should have at least split the cameras in two via cutouts, too much of an open vulnerable area for my liking, this has swayed me toward UAG this time... I'm someone who's been using Otterbox for about 20 years otherwise... seems they were blatantly a little lazy designing camera protection for the S22 Ultra
I bought the Defender Pro, and allow me to tell you that it worths it's price. The hand experience and softness is amazing, it covers the phone and it gives amazing protection and certain level of sophisticated aestheticic. 30 bucks for this case, but I don't regret it since I plan to have this s22 ultra for four more years!
Great review! like that you show in detail how it looks, feels and works. Im curious in if i would go for a case from otterbox which screen protector works out since i heard that some dont.
Great review but I've noiticed a huge decline on the quality control of their cases. I've noticed that the back cutout no longer perfectly aligns with the plastic part like in this video there is a noticeable gap at the bottom part. The same issue I've faced with my case and I had to refund it.
I agree, the Strada case for the S20 Ultra is the worst case I ever bought from them. It caused the phone to break because it flew out of the case that was very loose.
I have the GS7 32 GB with the otter case. Screen never broke, even with multiple drops. I'm getting the S22 Ultra 512GB and definitely want to tank it so it doesn't break.
Just don't ever expect to get the phone OUT of the case after you put it IN. I was silly enough to put my case on before I inserted the SIM card and now I can't get it out
The black symmetry is the worst! The bottom rubber part loses it's adhesion to the plastic part in my note 10 in 2 months. Replacement sent didn't do any better
Any issues with it blocking the speaker or making it hard for ppl to hear you when on the phone? My case I have no seems to muffle my voice, and when I took that case off the person I was talking to said he could hear me alot better. Thanks for any input
@@TheJabberTech I mean in terms of durability mate and resistant to skin oils. Now I'm torn between otter or Spigen, best case reviews for the s22 ultra mate.
oh I get it! I thought you were complaining about the leather's quality. It's like my "leather couch" which is really "bonded leather", that pissed me off! Two great companies, waiting on some more cases too
Had an Otter Box in the past for an LG 6. Yeah, broke the back glass and the phone when I used it for a hammer. Probably to be expected. The screen was un cracked and if I tapped the phone right the touch screen worked. Bought an S22 Ultra not knowing what it was. I know, I suck. Bought the otter box case and some screen protection. Goes a long way when you are spending 1,200 dollars.
In my old samsung s20 ultra the otterbox strada was with super magnet so I can magnet it to my friage(helped me wile cooking for example .. In s22 strada still have the magnet?
REALLY enjoy your case reviews. Saved me a bunch of time and effort, probably money. Thank you. Tried to show this great video to the wife, and all she said was 'he's got a lot of fingerprints on his screen'. 🤣. Welcome to my life..
Hi. I was thinking of buying the commuter case. I heard that the rubberry parts of the case get deformed and stretch out within 6-8 months of use. Is that true?
2 phones, no 3rd strike for me. The belt clip is easily snapped off. The 2nd time it happened all good. The rest of the case has been fine. Wanting a good belt clip this time however, I will NOT go with otter.
I wonder why no you tuber doing Otterbox mentions any real comment about the clip? Go figure. Buy at your own risk or keep sending back for the fix until warranty is done. Like every week with mild use.
I have issues with the Defender Pro and reverse wireless charging. Doesn't work well and would be nice to be able to charge my headphones during night.
I've got the commuter and the spen corner has a decent lip around it, not worried about that. Camera cutout definitely leaves me wanting though. Curious if some of those lense covers would do the trick
I have the otter box flip style wallet case it's well made but really heavy its like carrying a glock in your pocket & how would you answer a call with the case closed ?
To me the symmetry is slippery. The case will slide off of leather recliner arm from a standstill and has slipped out of my hand several times in a week of use. Returning.
Too bad they changed the strada case for the S22 ulrra not a fan of the magnetic strap the one for 21 ultra looked way better with the inbeded magnetic closure on both sides so the search goes on
i dont like bulky clip on. makes the phone more bulky then it really is .plus i had one before and phone kept falling off. uag is my choice to go for phone protector
I got the defender pro for my S22 Ultra, however it seems the case is slightly too big as you can feel the phone ever so slightly move around in it as you use it. Anyone else had this issue? Normally Otterbox cases are snug and fit tightly.
But not waterproof/ no screen protection is there any that will provide all, and yet no problems reading finger print, wireless charging,,and sound music comes out great..?
Waiting to get mine hopefully at the end of month, had to wait for the color and version I wanted…I’m just confused as to why most of these case manufacturers aren’t putting a screen protector on that bumper that comes off anymore?…there are a few I’ve found on amazon that do include a screen protector on the bumper but it has a circle where the finger print reader is…is it really that hard to get a print to read with a screen protector on it?
