I think this is a great review. Covered many points that other RU-vidrs missed. But the most valuable advantages of iPhone from your list are the exposure changes, low light video noise, external SSD support for prores and Apple proraw. Anything regarding color can be adjusted in white balance or in post. Also there are android video apps with Log support. S24 U has even advantages of using native expert raw to get creative tools like astrophotography, ND filters and much more. Plus the AI features, S Pen, also give much added dimensions and edge to S24. They still need to update many video specs
I couldn't help getting the impression that you definitely lean towards favouring the iPhone over the Samsung. I get that it has a lot to do with the personal preference, so I'll just leave it there.
Which pieces of the sample footage do you disagree with? I totally understand claiming bias but everyone who has done that in the comments has failed to outline one area where they can support their claim of bias with actual evidence from the footage. I REALLY wanted samsung to win as it would have made for a more controversial result that would have positively impacted our video
@@MrPaulXavier I'm not sure if you got my point. It's not about which (and how many) sample footage I disagree or agree with, it's about the pattern I see in your evaluation and preferences. There is nothing for me to prove, or prove me right, nor prove you wrong, because it's very subjective. If your preference is for more colour saturated and warmer tone photos there's nothing to argue about. Me too, I prefer some shots that way too. It's just I noticed you (almost always) lean towards iPhone pics even though they don't look very natural or "objectively" better. But of course, you have your right for your personal preference. And I don't think it's about which phone "wins" and which "loses", it's about giving a fair and balanced review and insight to what's there.
Interesting. If these were all blind cameras comparisons I feel I still would have made the same exact decisions. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess so if you feel I’m biased I’m likely not going to convince you otherwise. Although I will say I think I would understand you more if you could clearly point to one sample comparison and say “I disagree with you there”
@@MrPaulXavier Ok, you asked for it, there you have it. Here are my comments: 1) ULTRAWIDE CAMERA. Whereas I agree a wider field of view is better for landscape/architecture shooting, it's not necessarily the case for "selfie" shooting. I appreciate you prefer "more breathing room for your face", but to me the distance to the face seems too big, and it gives the impression of your arm being like 6 feet long which looks somewhat unnatural when holding the phone in your hand. Still, it's a personal preference, and it depends on the perspective and usage too. 2) COLOUR SCIENCE FOR ULTRAWIDE CAMERA. I actually liked your sense of humour when describing the colour of the snow on the sample from the Samsung camera. However, you did not make that kind of joke about the iPhone when the colour shift phenomenon was reversed between the 2 phones when switching to the 5x zoom lens. I'm just wondering why ;) 3) IMAGE BRIGHTNESS/EXPOSURE. It’s true the images from the Samsung's ultrawide lens are kind of underexposed, but on the other hand, the iPhone tends to overexpose the scene and the highlights tend to be blown out, for example the "umbrella" light in the living room. You don't seem to say much about that. Also, I noticed the exposure shift on the Samsung ultrawide lens actually improved the outside shooting in the snow because your silhouette and your face were much brighter and clearer on Samsung than they were on the iPhone shooting. I think that's something to appreciate. 4) IMAGE SHARPNESS IN THE FOREGROUND. You stated (and zoomed in on the concrete to demonstrate) that the iPhone showed the details "much more clearly " than the shooting from Samsung did. I stopped the video, zoomed in, tried pixel peeping, but still couldn't see any significant difference in the details. Maybe it's just me, but I found it insignificantly subtle. 5) SAMSUNG 3X LENS PERFORMANCE. You literally dismissed (slayed?) the Samsung 3x zoom lens by saying it "sucks". I really can't get why because to me it's just the opposite of what you said (and actually showed). I saw a much clearer, sharper, and brighter image than it was on the iPhone shooting, so I was quite amazed by why you would ever prefer the iPhone quite blurred and dim image over the one from Samsungs 3x lens. The buildings in the background were also very clear and showed a lot of details. So, I'm not sure what was really wrong there. Again, maybe it’s just me, or I'm not seeing what you're seeing. And you just showed one single sample shooting, so there was not really much to compare or to rely on as far as the 3x zoom lens performance is concerned. I'm sure you could have done better than that. 6) 5X SAMSUNG LENS UNDEREXPOSING IMAGES. I don't quite agree the Samsung 5x zoom lens underexposes images. I'd say it's rather the iPhone which tends to overexpose images in general, therfore it gives the impression for the Samsung shooting to be underexposed when comparing the two phones. 7) CINEMATIC/PORTRAIT MODE. Honestly, I think this kind of sucks on BOTH the Samsung AND the iPhone. You actually praised the iPhone for this feature, but maybe you should take a closer look at your hair and ears on the iPhone shooting to see how terribly the cut out algorithm works, intermittently blurring and blending your hair and ears into the background. I guess you probably only focused on the Samsung shooting when comparing the two, and didn't pay attention, but seriously, it's quite jerky and terrible on both phones. Honestly, I'd avoid using the cinematic/portrait mode on both phones because it just looks very artificial and unpolished, and I mean on BOTH phones. Again, a personal preference. Oh, and the post-shooting "epic" background blur you praised (so much) on the iPhone. Again, it looked pretty terrible to me too. If you don't believe me, I invite you to stop the video on 10:53 and see how awful it looks on your own sample. Nothing to brag about really. Or maybe again I'm not seeing what you're seeing. 8) ANTICIPATED BLURRING ON THE IPHONE. I so disagree with you here as far as the iPhone performance is concerned. I think it’s actually the Samsung which gets it right, I mean blurring the background AFTER you walk into frame. It looks to me so unnatural to blur an empty scene just before a person/object appears in the frame that I can't even imagine how you can prefer that. Just imagine you looking at the woods yourself, and suddenly something/someone appears in front of you. You'd focus on that something/someone AFTER they appear in front of you, and not before, right? But ok, maybe we just see things differently, or you just want/try to justify the way the iPhone does this. You'll probably know. 9) LOW LIGHT/ NIGHT SHOOTING. You claim there's much more noise on the Samsung shooting in low light conditions. I tried pixel peeping, zoomed in, looked closely, and I couldn't see that much level of noise on the Samsung shooting. The images looked fine to me, but maybe it’s more obvious on a larger display (I'm using a 10.5 inch UHD tablet). 10) VIDEO STABILIZATION. I didn't see any noticeable difference between the video stabilization quality between the two phones. You claimed the iPhone stabilisation is 5-10% better than the the one on the Samsung. If you really measured that I can only take your word for it. Again, there's no much difference to me really. 11) STUDIO LIGHTING. I definitely noticed you prefer colour saturated images, and I can'tblame you. I know it's more eye pleasing and appealing on social media. The only thing that surprised me was you saying the iPhone gives "more accurate and less yellow colour" images which was so totally NOT what I saw on your samples. What I saw were intensely saturated images, and you kind of looked as if wearing tons of peachy coloured makeup on your face. But again, maybe it’s just me, or maybe it's actually my tablet which is distorting your reality? Not sure ;) Also, I didn't quite get what the Apple log feature was about, because all I saw were pretty awful yellow coloured looking images. But maybe it requires more in-depth explanation. I hope my comments are helpful, otherwise, I appreciate the amount of work and time you spent on making this video :)
wow, I am very impressed with this video. It is a fact that this creator should be more recognized and for this comparison, I loved how Samsung took a big step in terms of video quality and I am sure that we still need to see an update that will improve it even more!
The one thing i really like about taking photos with s24 ultra is that the pictures doesn't get oversharp and get that digital look. It does more resemble a dslr or a mirrorless.
This is very biased video. Sounds like you only praising what apple has. Log is only for 1% users , and should be compared to pro video as you edit it . Samsung has been hammered for having saturated videos and pictures and iPhone praised for natural look . Now iPhone is praised for saturated pictures and Samsung hammered for natural look. . I feel bad for Samsung for listening.
I only go off of the sample footage that we captured. Looking at the clips do you disagree? So many Samsung users get upset in the comments even though 45% of the points were awarded to Samsung.
@MrPaulXavier disagreed with a lot as many other videos shows different results. I don't care about any of the phone brands. Just wanna choose between s24 ultra and 15 pro max. My laptop is hp . I don't use iPad or smart watches so ecosystem has nothing to play here. But I want features point out from both phone to decide which one is better for my life style. That's comparison. Not saying things one phone can do better without pointing the other phone feature makes it look like 1 phone is not even flagship and not worth comparing
@hamyplays cry for what . I'm using note 20 ultra and wanna make sure I buy next phone that worth the money. I don't have share on either apple or Samsung. I'm not like you that fight for phone brand for ego . I want my money well spent . And I ended up purchasing s24 ultra , cos I tried my friends iPhone 15 pro max and dosent have as much useful features as in my note 20 ultra . Basic- dual recording, split screen, edge panel , so on. Apple invest in developers which makes some apps have more features on ios than android but is not big gap compared to the features the ios is missing compared to android. And after watching full in-depth reviews of ai in s24 ultra it makes me wanna try it and will receive my phone in 3 days and already believe its best buy from other videos I watched.
I struggle to see how you can say I only favored Apple. I pointed out areas I preferred Samsung over Apple 13 different times in this video. It seems like only Samsung fans are getting upset even though it was an extremely close comparison.
S24 Ultra is the King ❤ Photography is my main passion. I was an Apple lover during 8 years. I switch this year to Samsung and I don’t regret. It’s the better decision I've never made 😍😍😍
: Would you recommend s24 ultra, as the best camera mobile phone, on android? Considering overalls like macro, simple portraits, astro, vediography etc etc.... I wanna buy a mobile phone, just for the camera....
It's a good decision. About a month ago I bought iPhone, because Samsung ultra is too large, and smaller phones don't have photo features like ultra. But after one week I returned it and bought s24 ultra. Not because of camera (iPhone camera actually is very good), but iOS is just terrible.
I'm a Samsung stan and am going to get the S24 Ultra but this video was spot on, very detailed and unbiased. Just because I like Samsung better as an overall phone doesn't mean I have to delude myself into believing that its better in every single category. The cameras are great but iphone is, overall, better in that category and it's okay. Don't get salty cuz of this small thing, lol. The video was very very good and unbiased imo.
Great comparison. End of day, shooting video indoors and getting the best sharpness regardless of the phone is the most important aspect. How to minimize noise and grain is crucial for filming with a phone. Where to position light to allow for the sensor to pick up the best video.
So very happy I found your channel. Your content is *Absolutely Amazing*. I am a lifelong Samsung user and I feel your comparison was fair. Samsung has made great improvements but are not quite there in my opinion. Curious, was the video shot before the Samsung February camera updates? Again, A+++ content. You have the flair.. (1. a special or instinctive aptitude or ability for doing something well.)
I downloaded MCPro24fps for my S24 Ultra, it completely blows away the native camera app for videos. Granted it records in Log so you have to color grade (not hard), but you can record at 10 bit open gate at up to 500mbps with post processing turned off. The end results look like you used a dedicated MFT/APS-C camera, especially if you use third party lenses too. The S24 Ultra has a very capable camera setup from a hardware perspective, it's just stifled by the software, its too overly processed with sharpening, denoising, and automatic gamma adjustments. If only Samsung gave us 10 bit log with high bitrates and the ability to turn off post processing in the native camera app. It would be glorious. For now third party apps like MCPro24 or Motioncam will allow you to get the most out of the phone.
Every new mobile lunching comes with little bit bugs this fix after update..plz make same vidio after s24 ultra camera mejor update receiving end of feb.....
this video deserves millions of views. most detailed and well explained video for audience. I'd prefer Samsung for photography in most case but for video apple is my choice. color on that fire is a huge drawback for iPhone but overall smoothness and consistency in most case is a clear win for iPhone. for most people iPhone is straight out of the box ready to shoot with any problem but you have to know what lens you are using for each scenario in Samsung side. Unpopular opinion: video at 1:57 better at Samsung because of less washed out look but i admit that darkness is slightly above acceptable level. even though my choice is Samsung in that scenario.
You were a little biased because at some point some Samsung shots were noticeably better but for some reason you choose the Iphone which is not so good, you have to be unbiased when doing reviews like this no matter the Phone brand you stan, but it's a good review whatsoever, no can go wrong with either phones, they are both great, It's just a matter of preference tbh.
Exactly like you said… it’s preference. It’s impossible to be completely objective in a comparison like this. One shot might look better to me but you prefer the other. That’s not me leaning towards Apple for any other reason than the fact that I actually preferred the look of that shot.
I read something once that said the iPhone actually shoots 120FPS 4K but it's HDR so it takes a high exposure shot and low exposure and merges them to make the 60 FPS footage. Is Samsung taking 120FPS 4K in HDR (aka 4K 240fps) or just SDR?
I agree with you. My mom uses an iPhone, and I use only Samsung and my s24 Ultra looks better than her iPhone 15 max, and she even admits it. It is funny these people and their reviews. Iwoke phone. It is amazing how his review makes the Pic better but when I do a true side by side with my mom's things end up different.
I really liked this comparison and it's actually exactly what I was looking for since I am trying to choose between the two phones to buy. But one thing you missed and I think it would absolutely flip the end results since they are 14-13, is that in the selfie cams, the iPhone did manage the face better, but look at what it did to your neck. It looks like your head has been put on someone else's neck while the Samsung maintained the colours throughout. I would give that point to the S24 ultra tbh, making it 13-14.
As a Galaxy S22 S24 ultra user and SAMSUNG in general all my life, this is a great review and comparison. Im a Graphic Artist and this is the kind of technical review id love to watch. I hate to agree that over all, Iphone always ends up better with video and photos, although Samsung is catching up but with their own direction. I still prefer Iphone when it comes to overall smoothness when it comes to images and videos. But this review highlights the Galaxy S24 ultra strength very fairly and in honest way imho. What a great comparison review.
Definitely true. I was trying to stick more to the native apps in this comparison. Otherwise I would have used the blackmagic camera app on the iPhone which also would have taken a point away from Samsung
Aloha I would like to know which phone gets the color of sunset correctly?? I see so often the shades of red moving up thru the sun as it sets, but my camera now doesn't get it? I want my new phone to get it. I have an older Samsung now and wanting to upgrade. Thanks
I can agree with most you said but the iPhone has one really big problem in my opinion and it's Color or whitebalance. Sometimes faces are too red or orange. And at low light the colors are completely off. Other than that the iphone has excellent video. I also think 99% of people never use LOG or ProRes. So in my opinion a gimmick.
I have both...and somehow after years of using iphone i love more the natural look of Samsung , not over fake colour that iphone more often than not...kinda unreal colour that i end up editing all the time...and that was the game changer for me... the great editing tools of Samsung!! but i like my iphone for other things!!
Yours, a great job. It gives us excellent technological information; one that would be better used by more people, if it had English subtitles. Thank you so much 🇨🇷
Nowadays, the cameras on smartphones should be assessed not only by their hardware, but also by the software they use. The latest is becoming increasingly important. I hope that Samsung will improve on their software.
İ must admitt i love still Samsung and used it since years but sorry the best Videoexperience for advanced Videographers is definitely on the IPhone 15 Pro. Disappointing why Samsung don’t offers such important features like log or ProRes for ambitious or advanced users. I’m really impressed from the videocapabilities.
I currently use the iPhone 15 Pro Max but some of the points you awarded to the iPhone don't make any sense. Like when you said you don't like the fact that the S24 Ultra blurs out the foreground but the iPhone sharpens everything, that's not good lad, if you use a DSLR or Mirrorless camera with a wide aperture, the foreground WILL be blurred so I'm confused on what basis you're critiquing. Also, if the 3X is for photography, why use a video comparison then? Why not just take some pics with it and some pics with the iPhone in digital zoom and compare???
This guy isn't here for a comparison video he s here to say iPhone is better than Samsung nothing else than that... btw who's gonna go that deep down people are busy with their they are not making a movie by their phones 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great video plus can you do a comparison bw pixel and iphones in videos bcs i heard the pixel 8 pro video jas tremendously improved also can h include the pixels video boost feature as well. Its high time samsung goes to a lower 50mp 1inch imx 989 sensor or an equivalent samsungs own iso cell sensor. Bcs 200 mp is just too much poxels to peocess or samsung will loose and will bever catch up to apple. Plus xiamo introduced log so samsung should also include it in their next phone Plus i dont know tbis pls can u check this i think even Samsung can connct to SSD please can u re verify this once
I'd add 1 point to Samsung for the Spen - action features, another 1 point for pre-order deals (storage upgrade) since pricing is included in the review. So Samsung wins.
@@MrPaulXavierit helps if you are to edit your videos on your phone. Increasing and decreasing the saturation and other effects meters feel easier with the s pen.
I'm with team samsung, after leaving apple a few years back, your test was a good, honest test,i still believe though the 8k footage looked clearer and sharper on the samsung than Apple PRORES LOG.BUT GREAT GREAT TEST,AND IF YOU THINK APPLE IS BETTER IN PRO RES LOG I BELIEVE YOU,,, FAIR TEST 👍 👍👍
Your preferences screams isheep 😱 The S24U could literally change the kind of blur effects in portrait video, but you seem to miss that out cos you busy yapping about apple
You can’t change it after the fact like you can with Apple. You can only adjust it prior to hitting record which is a massive difference. Did you hear me mention all of the things the Samsung does better? Like slow motion, low light colors, etc. or do you just focus on the Apple positives?
Hi I am from Bangladesh. Thank you for honest review. I am looking for a Phone 15 pro max. Could you please let me know, How can i buy iphone 15 pro max from USA market?
I will say samsung lovers will always love samsung and iphone to iphone. The comparison is not compatable depending on what each can do. Andriod has been domanting on features wise and launching new updates every time. Where apple do the same according how iphone is used by its users. Samsung is pretty powerful now days with its features ranking from options to dex, Ai, multitask, mods and ui customization.
I admit in videos its same for most of the time but iphones have a slight edge over samsung still ill be getting a s24. Confused between s24plus and s24ultra😅.
very good review, especially in terms that Samsung real color. I am very dissappointed with my Iphone 15 pro max. In sunny weather sky is too blue and there not enough brightness in the picture
@theanonymousone9668 Agree, but if China makes better phones than iPhone and Samsung, it would be interesting to compare, just to know how much they are better
@@MrPaulXavier can you do the same when samsung update the os and camera? Isnt fair because Apple have a lot of fix software since the release date and samsung not. The first are on day 22 February
We do show the 8k in this and it’s definitely sharp and wins a point for having 8k to begin with. But personally I think most people will film primarily in 4k on their Samsung so doing a direct comparison between the two most common modes is most applicable
how about the video when posting content (stories, reels) on Instagram from both of these phones? Samsung got a bit better over the time at this .. but how much better?
I have a question regarding the S24 Ultra. I was planning on using video extensively on my next phone and I was curious: Does the S24 Ultra experience any sort of micro jitters or vibrations when recording video? I'm planning on doing panned slow motion videos for real estate and I wanted to make sure the S24 Ultra would be up to the task. So at the moment, I'm deciding between the S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Great comparison for the devices by the way!
Sure, both are really good. But for me personally, it's safe to say that the S24U is now the better camera system for video shooting, especially if you do post processing. Thx a lot for the in depth comparison! 😃 And I'm sure you know, but Filmic for Android and Mcpro24fps transforms the S24U's camera to another level, providing LOG and much more.
@MrPaulXavier it is so easy to grade Log from MCPro24fps. It can literally be done in under 1 minute when imported in DaVinci Resolve. I couldn't believe how easy it was when I first tried it.
15:36 a great example of showing samsung front facing camera is better than iphone in low light. There is no details from iphone while samsung kept details and color correctly.
Camera comparisons don't matter to me if I can not switch my physical SIM CARD along all my devices, i paid lots of mo ey for that, why should I get something expensive without that choice?
I preferred the samsung in the majority the categories. Although they both have their strengths and weaknesses. The results are really subjective to the user and what they prefer.
Excellent reviews. The exposure change on samsund is a huge disappointment for video. Nevertheless, sharpness. But exposure change is a deal bteaket for me. I have th s23 and really hoped it would be fixed on s24, but clearly, samsung didn't care about fixing this.
For me, it has been a toss-up. I have the s24 ultra and the base iPhone 15. In some instances, the iPhone has been superior and, at other times, smasnung. This is my first time with any kind of apple product, and I love it. All in all, though, I'd prefer smasnung for video and some pictures, while Apple I'd prefer some videos and most pictures (unless I need to get close, then it's smasnung). Also, side note... the iPhone 15 speakers are way better than the s24 ultra speakers.
One silly point to the iphone is log because s24's 8k footage looks so much better another unnecessary one whole point which isn't directly relevant to the camera comparison is external storage. So S24 if it isn't the king at least they are equal. (According to your comparison)(And appropriate your effort and did like the video so no hard feelings 😅)
Ahh man I really have to disagree with you on this. That one shot comparison we did between the log and 8k does no justice to the amount of color grading you can do to the 8k footage. When you think about real professional content, a huge aspect of it comes down to the ability to control the footage after it's already been shot and the log footage absolutely blows away the 8k it's truly not a comparison. I totally hear you the SSD recording may not be about the camera but that alone would drive me to buy the iphone assuming they had perfectly equal cameras so I think it's still 100% worth noting. Imagine if one phone froze and crashed all the time impacting your ability to take videos... not technically about the camera but you'd still want to factor that into your equation right?
@@MrPaulXavier Well about the 8k and log, I would still call it a draw since more details found in 8k and it counts ( can't be ignored.) And you yourself believe that the external storage have no effect on the video footage right? Still you are a professional I have no doudt. Thanks again.
When they do the test, they forget that you can change the camera settings. They have different color models that you can use to fit what you are trying to do.
That is kind of a never ending rabbit hole though. The idea is comparing things as if we were a typical user. Otherwise I would’ve filmed everything in log on the iPhone
When you're comparing cameras between the two devices, I think it's far more important to look at the "point and shoot" results from the phones. It's easy to go into settings and tweak everything, but for a review, looking at what each phone does automatically when you turn them on is more important.
It’s hard to be perfectly unbiased but unlike every comment claiming bias can you actually point out some areas you disagree with? Which parts of the sample footage do you think were biased. Do better and back up your claim so we can have an adult conversation.
I disagree with apple is more affordable, the price of iphone 15 pro max is 100 cheaper than samsung s24 ultra. But samsung always has all kinds of promotions, like if you pre-order, you can double the storage for free. Or it is currently 300 off for s24 series with a free galaxy buds pro as gift which makes S24 ultra better value than iphone. Iphone will remain the same price until the next gen release.
I used the available natural lighting...and used every lens....I ve found that the processing on my note 9 is better and more natural....I expected more from a flagship at that price and I believe samsung has lost its charm....samsung should have spent more energy on perfecting it s camera or making them more consistent....I ve witnessed the chopyness in video u talked about and didn't like how it handle highlights in both video and photo
This guy isn't making comparison video rather he is here to say iPhone is better than Samsung nothing else than that...hey people are you going to make movie from your phone??? To be honest, i use to be a iPhone fan boy but comparing with Samsung's ultra phones every year iPhone looks like a very very limited boring phone i must say, iPhone doesn't have multitasking, the camera features in iPhone is limited, no zooming capabilities like Samsung, Samsung S24 ultra can record 4k 120 fps, it can record in 8k 60 fps which iPhone lacks, and omg iPhone that black patch hanging at the top all the time, very low charging speed, still with the same fucking face id till 2024, no under display finger print scanner, no highly customisable like Samsung, no S- pen feature which is often very handy atleast Samsung is giving that feature, you can do many things from S-pen, iphone just entered into the era of USB TYPE C 😂😂😂😂😂 iPhone users have to pay for the apps!! i feel like iPhone users are like slaves of Apple 🍏😂😂😂😂😂 etc etc etc....
@@MrPaulXavier iPhone is extremely boring phone, extremely limited feature phone in comparison with S24 ultra that's what iPhone users say and those ass holes still buying iPhone and crying later on 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Haha it doesn’t seem to me like you actually watched the review. The Samsung won 45% of the time. If I were a fanboy that wouldn’t have been the case. So much of what you’re saying applies to other areas of the phone this was just about video capabilities.
No idea why Samsung fans tend to get so upset over simple comparisons. It’s a phone my friend, if you like the Samsung better all the power to you. I prefer the Samsung for slo motion, more accurate colors, better native app. All things I said in the video, I think you just hate iPhones so much that’s all you care to focus on.
I did a blind test on my Instagram and the vast majority of people chose iPhone… I love the Samsung but you can’t call someone biased when in a blind test the results held up haha
