For the price, this TV is pretty tough to beat, at least at 77". Unless these top TVs are side by side, you would never notice or miss any differences. I have a 77" A80J and 65" A95K and next to each other, you can see a difference, but when I watch movies or shows on the A80J, I don't feel like I'm missing anything, doesn't change my enjoyment of whatever I am watching, still looks amazing. The 77" size makes it WAY better to watch movies on, than the 65" A95K.
What about 65". The cost of a 77" is much too high for me and at my viewing distance, 77" would feel like I'm sitting in the first row in a theater and I don't need that.
I got a 65 inch s90c gen 2 panel. The picture is soooo good. I originally got it for 4K gaming, but now I’m all about 4K movies with how good this tv makes it look. Paired with a nice soundbar, this tv is a beast!!!
BIGGEST WHIFF OF THE YEAR: Missing the S89c 77 QD-OLED deal! How did ALL TV reviewers COMPLETELY MISS the BEST TV DEAL of the year, the S89c 77” QD-OLED exclusive to Best Buy? Same proc, same QD-OLED 2nd gen as S90c & S95C. $600 back in my wallet - just swapped my week old S90c for it, while just learning about it by accident by perusing the boards & RU-vid for config info. Thanks for all the great content. Keep it up!
@@briandowney6478 if the s90c is a 2nd gen 77@ Qd-Oled, identical. Same panel and processor Now, $200 cheaper than I paid today at Best Buy - 1,799 - amazing deal.
Got the 77 inch from Costco for $2,500 plus $200 Shop Card and of course the included 5 year warranty. It’s the best TV I’ve ever had by far, I was coming from a Sony X90J, and before that Samsung Q6FN, so this was a huge jump for me. Movies look incredible, so much depth of image and rich colors. Sports look fantastic as well, and video games look amazing, little details I never saw on my previous TV. I don’t think I can go back to LCD LED tv after having this one, OLED is just outstanding. It had some quirks, yes, but overall for the price as you stated it’s incredible value.
@@kaiserfakinaway5909 If the image is inaccurate I haven’t noticed, aside from maybe a bit of shadow detail loss in the darkest scenes. No, the quirks I was referring to are mainly the menus are a pain with the included remote, takes way too long to get to useful menus with it, not intuitive at all, I had to buy a Samsung remote on Amazon with all the useful buttons. Also the tv chooses when it wants to recognize my Roku remote for things like volume control and when it doesn’t, there’s no rhyme or reason to it. Those are annoying quirks, but hardly enough to make me not keep this fantastic tv, just means I have to use 2 remotes at all times. Also I watch some content off of USB drives plugged into the tv, and it erased one of them, but luckily I always keep backups of backups, so it was fine and it hasn’t happened again since. Aside from that I’ve had little to no issues with the tv.
I've been considering the s90c 77 myself but also coming from x90J I'm a little concerned about going from Sony motion to Samsung, how have you found it
@@ajwtf6539 I’m sure there was a small adjustment period for motion on some things, maybe sports, but for the most part if you turn motion blur to 0 and judder to 1-3 motion looks great. I actually notice a lot of..I don’t know the word, maybe ghosting when I go back and watch the LCD TVs in the other rooms of the house. It’s not a bad thing, just LCD has a totally different feel as far as motion than OLED. I’d suggest trying out the 77 S90C at the very least, the jump in picture quality from the X90J is insane. There’s other things I love about it too, little things, like media played off of a usb stick loads and works immediately (I have a lot of downloaded old anime, old tv series’ and 90’s shows) where on the Sony it has to take a while to load it all up and is slow when navigating as well. Picture settings also get remembered from what I can tell not only per individual source, but even in individual apps within my Roku. I’ve been burned by Samsung a few times, and I could be here again who knows, but this is by far the best tv I’ve ever owned. Sports on streaming services in 4k for example blow the X90J (and IMO the X90L as well) away.
@@ajwtf6539 I replied to you, but my messages keep disappearing when talking about this tv. I said a lot, but basically motion is fine/good after a small adjustment period, I prefer it now to LCD. The S90C is the best tv I’ve ever owned by far.
I bought the 77 inch after watching several of yours and FOMO's reviews and other detailed info videos and love it!! Where i live i dont have any known calibrators but I've tried your settings from your other S95/S90 calibration video and while i may not possess a professional eye to know how close or far off it remains that also was a HUGE difference and help. Thanks for sharing what you did pointing us in the right direction. Look forward to seeing any additional video you may do on the settings for this TV as well, if possible please distinquish if anythign differs in recomended settings between 1st and 2nd gen panels. Thanks again and thanks for your detailed videos.
Man I was waiting for this... Cant wait for the settings video as i have the 65 gen 1 panel as well, after using your BT2020 settings the HDR is already perfect.
I just purchased one of these instead of a LG C3 because after viewing both in store Both looked great but the samsung was $600 cheaper than the C3. I love the pointer remote on the LG but $600 is a lot of money. $1800 vs $2400 in Australia for the 65 inch.
Absolutely LOVE my 77in! For the money can't be beat and much brighter than my G1. Yes I had crushed blacks at first but after break in time and shadow detail set at 3-4, never had a problem. I haven't noticed any blocking or flashing in low light scenes. I can watch it with the lights on and one window shining in no problem and with lights out HDR can be blindingly bright especially watching lightening, Godzilla fights etc. SDR brightness is meh sports watching is ok, get a backlit LCD if that's your main use. Gaming is AMAZING on it! Absolutely LOVE it! LOVE the color saturation and highlights. Motion isn't perfect but much better than last years Samsungs. Processing on low bitrate and resolution needs to be improved but it's not bad. Get a Sony and sacrifice money and brightness for it. Watching 4k BLU Ray is perfect in motion and picture quality. Couldn't be happier unless SDR full screen was brighter. Otherwise perfect for me. Definitely the best TV for the money! I look forward to your settings vid, especially game settings. I'm gonna try the iPhone calibration and Apple TV calibration thing this weekend.
From what I’m seeing, SDR brightness is still definitely better than in similarly priced OLEDs and it’s definitely a big reason I’m looking at this TV. Lots of Switch, which I’m sure looks super colorful on this thing.
hello Classy, thank you for the review, yesterday i got mine at 77" to replace my 65" LG C1. im not so happy with my S90C, i have black crush and bad shadow detail especially in game mode compared to my old C1, so to fix the issue i tried to raise the shadow detail in my picture setting and the dynamic black equalizer in game mode but then i feel i get lifted black and the colors looks a bit washed out. please can you take a look at the game mode in your next video and help us with the settings. i also dislike the panel coating used on the s90c, i wish they went with the glossy finish on the panel so the black dont look grey at lit rooms.
Not sure I notice what you mean about panel coating. Highly suggest watching his s95c setting video and other white point calibration video. They were game changing for me. It uses an inaccurate color mode out of the box but his videos really helped me understand how to more accurately adjust settings and how big of a difference it makes.
Hey, Classy! You know I was debating for over a year on what TV to buy. I’ve even emailed you several times about it. I finally got my 77” S90C and the Q990C soundbar system and I’m super happy. Can’t wait for your settings video. Any idea of when it will be out?
We have a 77inch C2 in the bedroom, a80j 77inch in the den, and 75inch X95J in the living room which is a monster and very bright but heavy and the OS on it has been slow and very sluggish. My wife wants to switch it out for a QD-OLED and try the Samsung S95C for the living room.
I just bought the LGC3 Samsung is late to the oled game I wish Samsung starting making oled products 9 years ago but this tv looks good, I switched over to LG with everything from now my tv to my monitor.
@@NexGenTekDo you have a link to that exact video ( i can't seem to find it ) ? I think i would even become a member of his channel just to view that one. 😊
Thank you so much ! This helped me ordering the 77” S90C over the 65” 95C. Will pick it up next monday. Can’t wait to change the settings to BT2020 and follow up all the settings you recommend on this TV. I’ll buy you a coffee for doing this. Much appreciated 🫡
Really hope you can eventually get your hands on a gen 2 panel and update us on your thoughts setting wise. Looking forward to your upcoming video and love what you do. You’re doing gods work man.
If you have a gen 2 panel on the s90c you can do a service menu mod and now you have a s95c. They both use the same exact panel and the same power supply.
@@brunoutechkaheeros1182 Yes, it could void your warranty. But is a repairman going to look at the service menu to see if you changed anything? Probably not. I've certainly never heard of it happening. But it's definitely do at your own risk.
The change is permanently logged in the service menu log, will Samsung or a tech look at the log is the risk, other question, is 10-20% more brightness in some scenes worth it.
@@krunoslavb8689 that's up to the owner to decide. If one is only on the manufacturers 1 year warranty they could do it soon if they wish. But that's up to the owners. Folks on AVSforums say that no tech has ever checked the service menu and denied service. But yeah, it could be a risk. I've not done it yet.
How could you tell if you have a Gen1 or Gen2 panel? btw, your video has the clearest sharpest image capture of all the reviews that I've seen... I'm now a fan... 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Loving my 65” so far. I’d warn anyone not to put it anywhere with direct sunlight. It does raise black levels in ambient light, but I probably prefer this to having a TV that’s too dim during the daytime. Just wish I was able to spend more time with it!
Yes I just got this TV and I can say from personal experience that the Samsung S90C is better than the C3 on everything. Sound. Brightness. Colour. Etc. one thing that isn’t good the cover on the back isn’t flush on mine but it’s just a cover on the back
Great review me personally you couldn't give me a Samsung TV or any of there sound bars , I have 3 Samsung tvs blackouts , take back and them back again still black outs , got Panasonic oled no black outs .
As usual every two years when there's a reasonable upgrade reason. I'll be hoping to snatch a 77-inch S90C or S95C depending on the price cut after Christmas/New Years. For those sweet certified open box tv's with even more discounts to them.
77 in was going for 1800 before Black Friday from Samsung website with AAA discount and 10% discount from a chat rep. Not sure prices will even get that good before they sell out when the new models hit. Got mine for 2k because they fixed the stacked 10% and still could not be happier with that price.
Did student discount they through in samsung care + for 2 yrs free 65 inch 1439 and combo woth soindbar 990c total 2236.. soundbar alone 840 after discount thats a steal
I’m coming from a TCL 6 Series Mini LED and I’m struggling with the S90C and it’s “dark blacks.” Is there anything to remedy this settings wise, or do I need to switch to an A80L or something else?
Been saying this since it was announced the S95C will include the one connect. Terrible gimmicky tech that should be left in 2016 where it belongs. And I love QDOLED lol
Hello Classy. What are the settings for sdr and hdr to use for s90c? Would s95c settings work from your past video? Please help. I can't seem to find the settings video you talked about.
Hello, which do you think has the best picture for the watching movies the… Samsung - 77" Class S9OC OLED 4K or Samsung - 75" Class QN800C Neo QLED 8K ?
Can’t decide between the s90c and the Lg c3 77 inch. Medium size living room 9 feet away living can be bright but also watch mainly in the evening or at night.
I'd love a settings video. I've experimented with settings from the thread on avsforums but my s90c just crushes blacks like no other OLED tv I own, LG and sony.
I just ordered a 65 inch. I'm hoping it is late enough in the year that I end up with a Gen 2. I've avoided Samsung like the plague in the past but am going to give them a chance.
How does the s90c handle movies that are Dolby vision??? Does it automatically take the data a put it into HDR10/HDR10+??? Does the movie look just as good as if it was on a Sony or LG that has Dolby Vision?
Hey classy thanks for the content! question: how do you get the display info like resolution, HDR status, refresh rate etc. I have tried to find it using the info button in the menu but nothing happens. Cant seem to see the info banner anywhere. Did you have this problem?
the macro blocking is a bummer for me for a tv at this price point. I was comparing the x93l to the a80l today in best buy and to me the x93l was undeniably better, despite "only" be mini-led. I'm not sure how good the x93l is for gaming though - I've heard that some mini-leds don't do the backlight stuff correctly in game mode.
S90c I had the c3 and brought it back. Way more vivid colors and brightness. Qd oled is better than just oled. A nice mixture of deep blacks and bright highlights and color
I went with C3. S90C quality for streaming content is outrageous and my focus is mostly on streaming content, especially YT. S90C might be better for gaming due to brightness
@@mariokrok-adamski842can you please give more examples on your point. My main usage would be with a fire tv stick 4K so I watch mainly YT, prime and Netflix. I also have a ps5. Would you go with the S90C 65inch or the C3 65inch same price.
Hello Classy Is it safe To do firmware updates to this television? Some people say that Samsung change settings overtime in their televisions Thank you
@jeffbloom205 Both but my PC isn't exactly what I'd describe as "high end" Didn't buy the TV at launch so maybe the later one connect boxes are working better? not sure but it's been fine for me.
Just found your channel, thanks for the review. I am looking to replace my 10 year old living room TV that is basically being used as a gaming/media PC monitor and would really like to step on the OLED train. I am not sure how warry I should be about burn-in for this use case. If you or anyone knows of a good source of info for this use case and If it is worth it I would appreciate it. I know rtings has thier extreme burn in test going on but I have no idea how relevant that is for real world stuff like this. I am really stuck between wanting this TV or going with the QN95C to be "safe".
Classy, do you have any information regarding differences between the S90C and the S89C (particularly 77") I was astonished as the S89C is indeed QD Oled , I was certain it would be LG's Woled panel like on the bigger 83" Is there a difference between the two.. or is this just Best Buys re-badged version of the S90C?? Great videos as always
It’s the same tv, sans the feet cover. I just swapped my s90c for it - and warranty $100 cheaper too! Same proc, same qdoled 77” screen. Deal of the decade, no, century thus far! HUGE MISS by ALL the tech reviewer's. Best deal by far. $600 back in my wallet!
I bought the 55” S90C to replace my 55” C6. It has exceeded all of my expectations. I don’t know what Samsung’s Real Depth Enhancer is doing but it creates a pseudo 3D effect that is very very mild but impressive.
Got the LG C3 for less than the Samsung S89C sale price of $1799. Should I keep the C3 or go for the S89C (similar TV to S90C)? I do occasional gaming, mostly use the TV for watching sports/tv shows/movies. Thanks!
Classy, do you think the S90CD (Costco) with the 60w 2.1.2 TV sound system will sound that much better? Would the 60w from the Costco version sound that much better than the 40w from this version? I know, soundbar is best. But I was thinking of pairing a Samsung soundbar to this TV which they both would work seamlessly together. Would it sound better with the 60w vs these 40w? The Costco version is more money
The C is already at least pretty decent, so if its improved from there than great. I dont think it'll be the best sounding TV, but nothing to complain about really.
Appreciate your reviews, but why for God sakes does no one review the WOLED 83"? Its the least expensive 83" OLED out there. If it has the "Samsung look" I would probably buy one, but no one reviews it, and no store demos it.
The 83" models, all use older panels and tech and have had uniformity issues. I would wait for a QD Oled in the 83" size to buy one for sure, just for the better uniformity alone.
@@micker9830 Right, I know that. I love my 77" WOLED. What I am looking for are the specs (peak brightness mainly) of the 83" Samsung. It is no where to be found. Yes, I could wait for an 83" QD-OLED, but at what price? MLA at 83? The 77" LG G3 is already more expensive than the 83" Samsung. I currently have a 98" LCD, so not in a hurry here, just looking for information.
regarding image quality, did you perform these tests using Netflix streaming for those dark scenes? cuz is quite well known that compression does impact that quality heavily, you can see compression artifacts on screen. do those issues reproduce on an uncompressed video?
Is this the same processor as the s95b? I am really looking for a good excuse to buy this tv. So if this processor is better that would seal the deal for me.
I've got the s90c and I'm experiencing noticeable audio lag which I I can't seem to fix because of this I find movies/series unwatchable, has the TV you tested have this issue or could I possibly have a defective tv?
is there any reason to get the lg c3 over this in 65"? side by side I have the two for a bit and my c3 has better black shadow detail than my s90c but the s90c has brighter highlights. colors are different. not sure. also,I have a gen1 panel would you worry it just keep it over trying to get a gen2?
I had watched quantum channel and took his settings.. I had thought that where great but hadn't. Too oversaturated. First overall looks great on "standard" but then I am looking for skin tone and all details and had looks really bad. I am waiting for your setting on filmaker mode. I hope you will do correctly.
Looking at Samsung S90C vs Sony A80L? Uses are home theatre and streaming tv/movies/shows to be paired with appletv 4K and Sonos arc, sub and rear speakers. Price difference of $300 for 77in for super bowl sales
Following your suggestion i bought this TV a couple and coming from a neo qled, o seriously couldn't be happier. Quick question: when you talk about motion differences between sets, you mean differences in movie or fmm mode right? Or there are motion differences even in game made at 120hz?
Question for Classy or anyone else.. Would you get the 77” A80L or 77” S90C. Usage will be 40% streaming 4K content, 30% SDR sports over FuboTV and 30% PS 5 gaming. Tv will be in a basement with complete light control. Thx! :)
@@ClassyTechCalibrations Thanks. S90C is brighter for sports however I love how Sony cleans up low bitrate 720/1080i content. Having said that, would the A80L be bright enough, given that it will be in a basement with complete light control? Or would you still go with the brighter S90C even though it doesn’t upscale quite as well as the Sony? Thanks!
@@Bklynblaze1great questions, I was about to ask the exact same. I have the a75L 55 inch in a bright room during the day and it’s not dim, but I can definitely see how the Samsung punches brighter and makes colors look more vibrant especially in gaming which is honestly a pretty big use case for me. I’m tempted to return my a75L that I got for 1200 and get an s90c, I guess I was expecting too much out of the xrclear but it didn’t feel like it cleared up as much of the lower res RU-vid tv and RU-vid content as I was hoping it would
