Best thing to do is out everything in surround mode trust me. Smart mode just emphasis the bar. Forgot to mention that Dolby atmos blu rays make this thing spin like a top and really activate the rears
I’ve had this soundbar for a couple of months now, but the subwoofer and surrounds are lacking in regular broadcasts. However, it sounds wonderful when listening to Dolby Atmos. I totally agree with the reviewer on ALL aspects.
So I did agree with his review initially. Then I played around with the sound bar. There were times when I was watching cable tv and got nothing out of the rears. Most cable boxes play content in stereo which he is right. To get the cable tv to play in the rears go into your settings using your cable remote and make sure the audio is set to surround or 5.1. Put your sound bar in surround mode and then the bass and rear speakers come alive with regular tv. Hope this helps.
@@rellrell8157 Hey sorry to bother you. I have a quick question on how or why my soundbar N950 isn’t working (rear speakers) since I’ve bought the new Samsung QN900A 85”. Please help me I’m going crazy here!! Lol 🙏🙏🙏
I also bought one and have had it for a week now! I'm not an expert like you but I was lucky not to have any sync issues, or low rear volume issues. I also haven't had an issue with non-Atmos content (e.g. 5.1) when using the Surround sound mode. I love it... I noticed that you have your rears on the side but the manual has a diagram (which is copied from Dolby) that only places them on the rear wall (which is where I put mine). I'm guessing you couldn't do that because of your room configuration.
If your enjoying it then that’s what matters, but for me I left very disappointed cause I had high hopes for the unit, the Sync issue & auto turnoff is bad, but the unit is GREAT when it works :D
Block Busterz Ya when the H950 is working great, like when you put on Atmos and throw in a 4K UHD movie, DAMN!!!!! I’ve had people tell me it’s better than the theater.
I had issues also, received the unit with a dead left rear speaker. Waited a week and half till the rear kit was returned but I did get an extra rear speaker. You also have to take into account the source material, also where you’re watching that content from. It will show crappy soundtrack but it will also make a great soundtrack sing. Watch the first Star Trek, in original Dolby true hd it sounds amazing.
I just got the Q90R and dolby atmos content is truly incredible. Your review is spot on regarding the rear speakers being a bit weak and almost useless on non atmos content but isnt that expected for a 7.1.4 system? It seems like the soundbar outputs most of the sound. Even the massive subwoofer I barely feel it working. When watching cable TV i can hear the surrounds but its not very loud. Are they expected to be louder? Im just confused on the difference between 5.1 vs 7.1.4
Check out LG's new SL10YG soundbar, both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound way better on the LG than on Samsung, and what helps too is that it's a few hundred dollars cheaper than the Samsung N950. Get the rear speaker add-on kit too and it'll make it even better.
Hi, Yes you would need e-arc on your tv to get atmos from it. but as iam sure local ch. wont have Atmos most likely you would use it for the inbuilt smart apps of the tv such as Netflix. a way around this is if you watch Netflix on another player and connect that player to soundbar directly. Also N950 will have e-arc via firmwear. Thank you.
Had my decision made and was going to buy this probably today! Just thought I'd search for the latest video on the N950 before buying and just as well... Thanks a lot. For those interested: Q Series HW-Q90: $1,699.99 HW-Q80: $1,199.99 HW-Q70: $799.99 HW-Q60: $499.99 R Series HW-R660: $399.99 HW-R550: $279.99 HW-R450: $199.99
Thank you for that, i would say wait for the new soundbar from them and see what has changed Especially that the old N950 ( cant believe its old now ) still has its original price.
@@blockbusterz2370 The N-Series is 2018. The Q-Series and R-Series is 2019. My humble opinion on this.... Waste of Money! Choose one you are happy with and that's it! Why release new models every bloody year? #MoneyMakingRacket
@@TechinaSec101 frustrating for sure I dropped a lot of money on a q90r tv and matching soundbar and wind up spending hours troubleshooting, these are not some 49.99 soundbar, shouldn't have issues
@@TechinaSec101 the Samsung service rep also told.me this is NOT a know issue, which I told him was crap as they have several firmware updates trying to fix it
I have the same sync issue. The subwoofer and rears after two days are unpaired. I must do manually sync, then they worked for next 2 days :(. Very sad.
Hey bud. I am having problems with playing my movies on Atmos in Microsoft Movies & Tv on Xbox one x. Sometimes they will work just fine, (rear speakers/Atmos) and then sometimes nothing! It sucks! Plus how do I get make it so I can only use one remote to control them both? I have a 75” Samsung QLED and Samsung H950 and my Xbox One X as my primary receiver.
Had a similar experience to you. Atmos and DTS:X content sounding amazing! But everything outside of that, even typical 5.1 was very lackluster. Also had frequent disconnection issues too. It's disgusting that Samsung has abandoned the product. Needs many bug fixes. Even the Q90R soundbar which is replacing it has exactly the same hardware lol. I Think it just has some new sound modes. Really pathetic on their behalf. Thankfully I was able to return mine, such a shame as hardware wise this bar is fantastic, but Samsung and their software really lets it down. I don't think I would purchase a Samsung audio product again tbh after what they have pulled here.
Actually I've bought the new model, the HW-Q90R and it has exactly the same issues: the surround speakers won't connect when you turn on the system again, forcing you to re-sync, which is ridiculous for a product of this price. When it works, atmos or dts-x sounds amazing, but I'll pass and get my money back or a similar product from another brand. Very disappointed with Samsung...
@@TechinaSec101 Indeed. Actually, I asked for a replacement of the first unit. Second one had the same problems. Now I'm going to try with LG SK10Y with the surround kit, fingers crossed.
@@EdThomas Really sad to hear. Slightly off-topic: I replaced the HW-Q90R with the LG SK10Y and the surround kit. I had no issues with the surround connectivity, but its way of working with 5.1 is silly in my opinion: if the source is 5.1, instead of using center, left and right from the bar + the surround speakers, it only uses the soundbar. So they are only used either with "virtual" surround or 7.1 sources. That way, when you try to play a 5.1 game, as all the sounds come from the front the sensation is not convincing. Plus, the Google Home compatibility was broken (didn't connect to WiFi), so I did return it as well. I have the feeling that the only way of enjoying proper surround sound is with a decent AV receiver and a good kit of speakers. I thought that a good soundbar with a surround kit would be a cleaner and easier solution, but I was definitely wrong.
@@antonioruizmateos I have just read on Samsung web page that a firmware upgrade was released which fixes the sync issues. That means one down. I am only concerned about the rear speakers' sound level. I hope this was fixed too.
Nakamichi 9.2.4 Soundbar is incredible best bang for buck!!!! More than happy, i bought 2. I'm sure it beats the Samsung 950 in atmos, and DTS X sound.
Hi Michael, how is the over head Dolby Atmos in Nakamichi? I've Heard alot of great things about Nakamichi, Except no one ever say's anything about overhead sound effects.
The atmos was brought to ultra with firmware update and no physical change to units,do you really think the height effect is better than this unit with physical upfiring speakers?
Please help me with this question...i just has doubt about the dtsx and atmos content,if nakamichi is doing great in these two in comparison to hwn950 i will defenitly buy nakamichi ultra.there is few video reviewing nakamichi ultra in atmos area and one which do give poor score to it.i really need to hear from someone whom heaeed both hwn950 and nakamichi ultra in atmos content?
@@m.r.a.2460 Everyone who has heard my Nakamichi has been blown away by them. Then this weekend my nephew stop by me and but them in game mode on the Xbox 1 x it was frightening, how good it sounded.
@@MrBjorn6 It's better but I cannot afford to put 10 speakers around my sofa, hence Samsung. I just wish they cure those minor issues they have. Hopefully HW-Q90R will have it all fixed.
Hi, did Samsung fix the issues that you talked about? Thanks for the honest review. Apparently almost every other channel is saying that this is the best soundbar.
Come on man that's not a review, you bought what was possibly a faulty unit and are trying to convince everyone that the problems you have are going to be in every unit using RU-vid as a soapbox. I bought this yesterday and it doesn't have any of the issues you moaned about. And, Samsung have released firmware for the N950 since you posted this complaint, so literally the entire foundation of your argument here is null and void. I would never release a video like this based on 1 sample unit, but if I had, I'd pull this offline now because it's factually incorrect.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback but if you read the comments and AVS forms many not just me had these issues and faults. the new one is Q90R, the released a new flagship one just 9 months after they released the N950. What do you make of that?
@@johnhughes2094 Hi, Yes you would need e-arc on your tv to get atmos from it. but as iam sure local ch. wont have Atmos most likely you would use it for the inbuilt smart apps of the tv such as Netflix. a way around this is if you watch Netflix on another player and connect that player to soundbar directly. This is worst product on the market. I purchased this crap after reading the reviews that raved them to be the best BS! They DO NOT stay synced at all. I hate these fucking speakers. If anyone is looking to buy this product. Hit me up and I’ll sale you mine. There’s a reason why Samsung is second best. By American always.
This is a bad review. I own this sound bar since day 1 and i have zero sync issues. But i never connected it to the internet so i haven't done any software updates. This reviewer doesn't understand that samsung nerfs it's own products as it's prepping a new product. Same goes for their tvs. Never connect samsung products to the internet unless its a smartphone because you don't have a choice with smartphones. Use your blu ray player for netflix and prime video or your fire sticks etc.
