Around 4:03 I mention how it cannot be unlocked without downloading the app. That is only partially correct. You CAN unlock via fingerprint, but not with the password. If you want to unlock with the password, change the password, or add/delete fingerprints, then you have to download the app. Hope this clears some confusion!
Thank you so much. After listening to you, I looked more closely at my ports and I have USB C but not generation 2. So, saved me a bit of money here and will buy the T5 now. Thanks again for explaining everything so clearly
Great Points, thank you for explaining. Glad I learned this because my MacBook has the upgraded ports so its worth it, but if it didn't you are gonna save lots of people money and time!
I just bought a T7 -1TB and did all those things that you said for over 3 hours (just like you did 😊). I was frustrated at first to get only half the advertised speeds, but then I realized the issue, it was only USB 3.0, that's why. I did the tests across other devices {variety of USB 3.1 G2, 3.2 G1 & G2} and got close to 1 GB/s speed using USB-C on 3.2 G2x1 (older 3.1 G2), happy with it now! So I can vouch for all that you've said... is spot on !! Also, I ended up partitioning it in NTFS and exFAT, and found NTFS to be a little more faster and consistent on lower than USB 3.2 Windows systems. By the way, Win disk manager will not let you partition ('shrink volume') as stock, in order to partition, you first have to format it to 'NTFS' and then partition.
Definitely a great informative video I have the T5 and was comparing for an upgrade and came across your video I definitely need two of them one for daily use and one as a back up to my daily driver
Hi , sorry if its a dumb question but, wanna ask how to actually differentiate USB3.2 gen 2 port ? i saw my motherboard have this blue color USB , its a USB 3.1 only right?
Correction, acording to apple website full specifications, my iMac 2017 and your MacBook Pro 2016 has USB 3.1 Gen 2, not 3.2 gen 2. I was a little confuse there for a second.
IT'S ON SAAALEEE !! I just bought my t7 touch. I was about to buy the T7 on amazon, got curious about the T7 touch and saw that it was the same price. It's $139CAD on Amazon :))))) Woohooo!
I had the Sandisk Extreme SSD when I was mobile Doing (before social distancing happened), switched it out for a WD My Passport SSD which looked beautiful with both my silver and space gray MacBook Pros, and then recently switched to the black T5. I thought the T5 wasn't going to look as nice as the My Passport SSD but I can honestly say the videos don't do it justice. Everything from the unboxing experience is so smooth and sleek, but most importantly the performance can not be beat with the former drives. I was looking at upgrading my T5 to 2T but for only $50 more I might as well get the T7. It's slimmer which won't protrude as much velcro'd to the back of my MBP, has twice the performance, and has tight security.
I have the T5 running on my Playstation 4 console and it works great , i would really like to see the T7 reviews on the Ps4 next since I haven't seen anyone done it yet
I just bought one for my xbox one x and its been freezing and lagging up my games i cant figure out the problem besides it being 3.2 usb and the xbox is 3.0 I'll be returning it and getting a t5 to see if it was the ssd or my xbox it self i run my xbox almost 24/7 since I bought it like 2 years ago lol ill let you know if it at least was the drive when i return it
Also has a day trader fingerprint reader for secure back up files is a necessity and buying a PC with 4tb of pie name ram is insanely pricey. So when I saw this I got single 2TB m.2 ultra pie drive. Plus 2Tb Vava. Which has smaller footprint then T7 and more security options. Also kills the T5 and comes close to T7, may even match it. VAVA COMES WITH A TON MORE CABLES as well.
You mention you have a 2016 MacBook Pro and it's compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2. I also have a 2016 MBP, and the specs call out USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Mbps). What's the difference? Would I see the extra speed, too, or should I just stick with the T5? The speed with large files is really my only goal since I would be working with video & photos. Don't really care about the fingerprint lock, wouldn't use it. Thanks for the review!
Have you looked into the Vava indigo startup. Its incredible speeds trumps t5. But I'd like to see a comparison between Vava SSD + fingerprint reader. I ordered 2tb vava to go with my Alienware 51M coming October is 2020.
@@NikCan66 I hope I didn't give you the impression that the T7 Touch isn't worth its price. It absolutely is at least to me anyways BUT to other people probably not.
Hey jimmy i was wondering about using t7 for running windows on a MBP 2020 13in via bootcamp, the thing is i`ve heard it has disconnecting issues... should i go with the t5 instead?? thankss
I have a Late 2015 iMac which has USB 3 port. Should i buy the T7 or T5? Both these models can only be connected via the USB Type C - A cable for my iMac. Will have more speed with the T7?
Hi Jimmy, Could I just use this as a normal drive without setting up the security features/password/fingerprint etc.? More of a plug & play style approach?
I have two desktop Windows computers. One has ten USB 2.0 ports (no USB 3.x or USB-c). The other desktop has four USB 2.0 and four USB 3.0 ports. Is it worth using an SSD on a computer with only USB 2.0 ports? BTW, these computers are 8 and 11 years old. Both computers run fine. The computer with only USB 2.0 ports runs Windows 7 and the other computer runs Windows 10. Be gentle with me, I'm an old, old guy.
can you please give a reveiw on transcend external hards and can you please share the views in what scenarios external hards go corrupted. Thanks in advance
Oh, I purchased 2tb version of T7 touch and lot of problems. Transfer speeds less than 300mb per sec (10gbps usb-c on macbook 16 pro), constantly switching to sleep mode (30sec freeze when you working with T7 after 15 minutes of activity). I has T5 before, it was almost excellent ssd. But T7 - not near by speed and it problematic device.
Thanks for sharing Jimmy I’ve just got the new high end Mac 13” 2020 I’ve no idea if it’s 3.2 compatible it’s got thunderbolt 3 so not sure the T7 is compatible
From the MacBook Air/Pro spec: USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s) The confusing thing is that USB 3.2 Gen 2 and USB 3.1 Gen 2 are the same thing. As long as it does 10Gb/s you will get the fastest possible speed, and this drive is compatible with USB 3.ANYTHING so it will work in any USB-A or USB-C port, just won’t be as fast.
Gen 2 is backward compatible it would simply default to Gen 1 speed. The T7 (without the fingerprint) is the same price as the T5 so you would be better with the T7
Wrong information, you DO NOT NEED to download app to use ssd, only to set up fingerprint, then it works everywhere without app as long as you touch the Touch ID
I never said you NEED to download the app. I said when plugged in, you CAN download the app. If you password protect or fingerprint protect the SSD then you do need to have the app installed, on every device you use.
@@JimmyTriesWorld Still wrong information. If you fingerprint protect you do NOT need an app to use it on other devices... That's the whole idea of this SSD... 4:03-4:15 ( this is where you say it )
@@stygis Okay, I see what you mean. To clarify, I said if you want it use it (when it's already in security mode) then you need the app on different machines. But you're right, only for fingerprints can you use it without the app. The password method still requires the app though.
Jimmy Tries World yup, that’s what I mean. You set up fingerptint you use it on any device you want with no hassle. It’s secure and no app is needed. So it’s bit misleading by telling people you cannot use full functionality (100%) on other devices withoud additional set up, while u can. You put your files you put your fingerprint and you can use anywhere you want with your fingerpint, no additional software is needed (all happening inside ssd hardware).
I bought this drive. It's fantastic, but there are two gripes that ALMOST want me to return it: 1) Fingerprint software opens up every time you insert this into a Mac, even if you delete the software. I wish that wasn't necessary and you could just unlock without any software opening. 2) The LED lights are freaking very annoying and distracting. My solution here is to turn it around, which isn't very convenient if you need to unlock with fingerprint, or put it out of sight behind my computer. Overall still great product, but I really hope they will make an option to turn off the LED with a software update. Still undecided whether I'll keep it or return for the Sandisk Extreme Pro.
Is the fingerprint a most for you? Only asking because they're supposedly going to come out with a similar cheaper version of the t7 minus the fingerprint scanner.
T5. I use the T5 and it performs superbly. The T7 bus exceeds the capabilities of the PS4 so you'd see no benefit. Ex: Anthem load on HDD is 2mins 15 sec but 1min 8 sec on the T5. Popping seems to be non-existent.
So what your saying is that if I want to use the drive for my xbox one x, that only supports usb 3.0, I should get the T5 because I won't get the full speed of the T7 anyway?
@@NaRiCo94 , Are U Saying that The T7, Is As Convenient Accessible As The Stuff That's in The XBOX Series X????? Far As Playing And Storing Next Gen Games????
