It was actually William Dawes who warned the militia that the “Regulars” were coming(not the “British”since at the time they were all British). Revere had been arrested or detained on the road from Lexington to Concord. ALSO It was John Adams who proposed Washington as commander in chief.

Was Samuel Adams a freemason? I finished reading John Adams book by David McCullough, almost zero interaction reported in the book between John and Samuel, while they went to the same meetings frequently. I am reading Samuel Adams book by Stacy Schiff, but really not much mention of his personal affairs so far....
