Mixing samurai and hip hop is absolute genius

Glad to see Samurai Champloo is popping back into popularity, people need to see and know what a good anime is again

We need more hip-hop inspired music in anime, or even just in anime openings like this

'Naw bro, we don't skip this intro.'

I honestly believe this show was what helped bridge the gap between hip-hop culture and otaku culture. Rock, punk, and EDM have always had great representation in anime. Either through clothing and hair styles, OPs, and rebellious character traits. But SC changed the game and introduced hip-hop culture to otakus and anime to hip-hop fans. This was a cultural revolution that blended urban stylings and creativity on both ends.

nujabes was the samurai who smelled of fresh dank beats

This show is an absolute masterpiece, from start to finish.

I love how you get a grasp on who the characters are just from the opening alone

A cool bit of attention to detail in this opening I think is how the colors the characters are tinted in in their various vignettes are somewhat reflective of their mood at that time. You can see Mugen shifts from chill mode where he's tinted in blue to various warmer shades when he's in the heat of battle, and obviously Fuu has mostly bright and cheery vibes. But the one I think is coolest is Jin, because you can see that in all but one of his vignettes he's tinted in calm blue, and then the one at 0:24 where he strikes directly towards the camera is in red. To me this is saying that in the other strikes he's just in the middle of practice, but the red one was a strike with actual killing intent...and then he just sheathes his sword in chill blue again as if it never happened. That's dope.

I just realized when Jin shows up at 0:20 there's fish in the background, likely symbolizing his serenity and "go with the flow" attitude.

Those subtle piano chords do something to my soul they just hit right

Nothing is better than hearing this nostalgia of an anime classic. We shall forever be together and prosper as anime fans, in the way of a samurai!

It's 2022 Still amazed with the unique animation style, character design, VA, the fighting-dance moves which literally goes in sync with the beats. I don't think there is any anime out there of this style. It's legendary 🔥

It'd be cool if this timeline was connected to the Cowboy Bebop timeline and Mugen was actually Spike's ancestor or something like that. Not an original thought, but still a neat one.

I first saw this at when I was like 10 at 3am and I had no idea what was going on but I loved it.

I'm the type to skip intros to get right into the show(plus I think most of them suck anyway) but this one is just to good. Matter of fact I rewind it just to hear this again

0:10 something abt the way Mugen looks up is so endearing to me--i catch myself rewinding to rewatch that small bit often. Idk its like hes reassuring us, the viewer that everything is going to be ok. He just looks so at peace with himself here and I seek that shit.

This takes me back. It really does. It's nostalgic. I remember this show as a kid, seeing it on adult swim. The intro was the only thing I remembered. Probably because I seen the intro, thought it looked cool, but when it got to the show I didn't think it was interesting. But now? As an adult? This show is brilliant. I love it. I'm gonna get the show on disc and show it to my anime addict younger brother. Hopefully he'll enjoy it.

My favorite character on Samurai Champloo is definetly Mugen, a badass, has some cool fighting skills and moves, constantly swears, doesn't give a Fuck about anything, and is funny as hell

Fun Fact: This anime was on the top ten list of animes to watch while high off of weed you heard. It’s the jazzy/hiphop themed music The humor is spot on It’s entertaining And those REAL moments get you in the feels. Like that one episode where Jin was talking to the pretty lone female staring at the ocean or whatever type of body of water that was. She was planning to commit suicide yet she was saved or more like some other force guided Jin to her. In the end he set the boat off and told her to go be free and live your own life. Deep shit

Man, I miss the simple preteen days when I’d stay up to catch this on Adult Swim. This show had it all; good characters, great animation, incredible action and an undeniable sense of style. Truly, they don’t make em like this anymore.
