wait is this a thing in bannerlord? i mean both being a samurai and the flaming weapons. Oh boy i can already imagine the GoT mod with Robert's Rebellion being the main plot. Aight lads, let's go in swingin those flamin swords of ours, BURN THEM ALL!
I always had a chuckle when people mention steel being folded hundreds/thousands of times. Japanese smiths had to do that because the quality of iron was so poor, and folding was the only effective way to strengthen it.
Katana is not 1000 times folded, it may have 1000 layers, but its not folded 1000 times. And the reason why it is folded is because japanese didn't have the technology to fully melt the steel, so the steel had lots of inpurities, and the carboncontent was not unified. The folding makes this inpure steel better, cus it gets away lots of those inpurities and eavens out the carbon and remainin inpurities, so that the steel is uniformly strong and doesn't have weak spots. Allso katanas were and are differential hardened, it means that the edge is very hard, and the spine is soft, that means that the edge holds its edge better, but it doesn't mean it is sharper than others, it just stays sharp for longer, but cus its so hard, it allso chips easily. Allso the soft spine means that if the blade bends, it will stay bend, unlike spring tempered blades, what most of the worlds blades are made out of. Thats why the katana is quite thick, so it wouldn't bend so easily, and the thickness is why katanas are usually the lenght of an european onehanded sword, and for their size katanas are quite heavy. Katanas are good swords, they perform well but are somewhat easy to brake, so no, they are not the best sword in the world, nor as god like swords anime, movies and videogames lets us believe.
