Now THIS is the canon ending I like, cuz now it means that Jack probably started a family with Ashi and eventually, we got his descendant, Professor Utonium.
Nice... He fought. Lost everything. Fought again for 50 years straight never resting with only empty successes. Finally won only to be dealt another devastating blow. This ending gave him the kindness he deserved.
Besides of course Ashi surviving, notice the difference between the ending of the show and this one: The original had the light shine on everything but Jack, despite him overcoming his heartbreak over losing Ashi. It reflect the bittersweet ending of the show. This game, on the other hand, had light shine on not just everything but both Jack and Ashi as well, helped by the scene initially lighting up slightly when Ashi reveals herself to have survived erasure. This reflects the full-on happy ending of the game.
@@bibleguy1207 For some reason writers nowadays want to screw over the main character thinking it would be dramatic masterpiece but nope they probably forgot how much fans hate that 😂 Last of Us 2, Game of Thrones, and Attack on Titan. All of them chose to give their beloved characters a shitty ending because of "art" I think if they wanted a good tragic ending it should've started like "Death Note"
i like to think Jack is still sitting under that tree mourning in this ending because of not just all the friends in the future he will never see again, but also the 50+ years of pain, anger, and sadness that he must now begin to heal and grow from
@@bdpickett True, Jack technically returned to the past a few seconds after leaving, so he is still displaced in time (even if only a few seconds). Meanwhile Ashi is now also displaced in time by traveling back, so in theory the two can be together until the end of time.
Who knows. Maybe all of Jack’s friends from the future will appear in his past as different incarnations of their future selves. The Scotsman could easily be the exact same guy, but a less futuristic version that Jack could befriend all over again.
To be honest, I accept both endings from the series and the game. Jack was able to return to the past and defeated Aku once and for all. Either way, he accepted the end results and was able to find a reason to be happy.
the game ending is the "perfect" ending, but the show ending can still be considered a good ending. He did lost Ashi there, but on the other hand, he recovered his family, his friends, and now has the chance to live the rest of his life in a world free of Aku's reign.
I agree. It is nice Jack gets to be with Ashi in the game (I did thought it sucks she died at the end) but Jack got a happy ending either way. Aku is gone forever, he's back home, reunited with his family, and can live in peace at last.
It's cannon. The creator did state that this was supposed to fix the ending. Which is kinda funny considering how he just added ashi to that ending scene and kept everything else the same. And somehow it's perfect
@@jmachero5852 he does. Sadly we will never get the ending that was teased in season 3 with the timkeeper portal. But I'm glad it at least has an ending
The animated series ending is the real ending. The secret ending is an ending that makes no sense in the context of the story of Samurai Jack, and was clearly made to please fans who didn't like the actual bittersweet ending. It makes more sense for Ashi to disappear with Aku since her very existence is tied to Aku. The game doesn't even have a plausible reason to why Ashi survived. Samurai Jack's story could only end on a bittersweet note because Jack was always going to give up something for his victory against Aku.
I always took Ashe surviving was "possibly" because Theory: Maybe the Gods actually rewarded Jack for his hard effort and used some "influence" of their own.
I thought Jack was going to meditate again like he did to get his sword back and talk to the gods to get Ashi back. But no they had to just let her die and make us all feel bad. That is how i would have written it.
The secret ending does makes more sense because if you erase Ashi from the existence everything of her interaction with Jack is supposed to not happened also that would also erase her help against Aku and would undone everything she had done for jack like transporting him back in the past. The argument of Ashi being gone is because of Aku being destroyed so everything Aku did is undone, Then it is also applied to Ashii, So everything Ashi had done will also need to be undone, So Jack would not had return to past too and defeat Aku. That's why it's better to treat this one as a new timeline that Ashii lives instead. A law is in general and works in domino. When you applied something on Aku it should be with Ashii too. That's why it doesn't make sense to erase Ashi because what she had done stayed in Jack current timeline. It's more logical that this is a new timeline and also remember that because of Time Travel Jack doesn't aged anymore and Time Travel should had effects also to Ashi as well.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 eh just a star trek reference. Remember spock doesn't die when he travel back in time? Paradox doesn't kill each other. HMMMM🤔
I do appreciate this videogame ending : I found that even if character-wise the serie's ending makes more sense with Jack's evolution, I can't help but notice that in the last season there's all this work with Ashi's evolution with her freeing herself from her past and choosing who she wants to be. The fact that in the end she's still chained to her DNA contrasts so much with all this "choose your on path" stuff that you end up with the feeling that she was forced into that ending to serve Jack's story. That would mean that she's no more than another secondary character that accompanied Jack during his journey instead of having a true story of redemption... I feel that even if we can consider this end like fanservice, there's no denying that this end respects so much more Ashi as her own character than the original one in which she's treated as an asset for Jack's ending. I finished the series just an hour ago and I haven't had the opportunity to play the game, but with this ending being an secret ending I feel like Tartakovski gave Jack the ending he trully deserved. Sorry for the long text, but I needed to get it out of my chest
So I got to thinking how the retcon allows Ashi to live despite the time paradox. She's a time remnant ala The Flash or like Avengers: End Game, she's the product of an alternate timeline, therefore Jack killing Aku may change his future, but not hers.
Actualy, she is not product of an alternative timeline, she is belongs to this timeline. Hard to explain, but if watch at her life like some point in Jack's life and then they went together, then... she still exists and future where she was born didn't changed.
The secret ending does makes more sense because if you erase Ashi from the existence everything of her interaction with Jack is supposed to not happened also that would also erase her help against Aku and would undone everything she had done for jack like transporting him back in the past. alvin hung ftw kristiferftl Don’t know but the developers said that this game is canon to the show and just the show so that would mean this is the normal show and no timelines
I don't mind either ending. I understand why the original ending was tragic and bittersweet and I will never hold it against the show, it's still a great ending to me, one that makes sense and is earned. This one services the fans more and I don't fault the devs for this and it makes the game worthwhile. Both are canon to me.
i do respect your opinion and i also found both endings to be nice however the original ending broke its own time travel rules after all if Ashi ceased to exist because there was never an Aku that would negate everything she just did which means Aku would still exist because future Jack wouldn't have an Ashi to send him back to defeat past Aku but by having her live it follows the shows own time travel rules again
@@dragonheckwhen Aku was destroyed then Ashi should've disappeared as well right then, and there, but she probably only existed till the amount of time lapsed when her mother was destroyed in the future timeline when Jack was fighting her. Which is why she stayed in existence for awhile in Jacks present timeline stacked with Akus future timeline before the time-pocket was completely sealed. Just because she disappeared...doesn't mean her willful actions were undone. Remember only Akus future reign of terror was undone...Not the memory of it. Memories have meaning so don't forget unless you have to.
I like the true ending, but the original ending had something special. In a sense, Jack was meant to lose everything in the future because he didn't belong there and some day had to travel back in time and bid farewell to the future including Ashi, because that was his whole purpose. It is kind of poetic how he had to suffers all those years in the future only to llse everything and suffer once again for the fate of the universe. It is not what Jack derserves, but in a sense it was his faith to suffer like a warrior for the future of the world.
Ever since I saw the original ending I wasnt really satisfied but now after growing up with samurai jack then finding him on adult swim and now seeing this secret ending I am now fully satisfied
Now I can finally say that my journey through this universe is over and that somewhere in the world there is still hope and happy end for people who deserve it
Love how their dialogs are not matching in the original show. Original aku: wot? **gasp** you're back already?!? Game aku: Whaaat? You're back already?
Let's be for real: Who thought when you first saw this ending, you'd be crying in a bad way, but ended up in a good way because Jack finally had happiness?
In a way, regardless of which ending is shown, Jack and Ashi ending up together is really interesting to think about. Jack, his parents, and so many other people have suffered from Aku's existence, and it would be so easy for Jack to wish Aku never existed until he fell in love with Ashi. If Aku didn't exist and have the evil influence to inspire a very messed-up cult, Ashi wouldn't exist either! It's like how, even in the face of such suffering, something good can be built beyond that suffering... ^^
Thank you, I needed to see both endings. Initially watching the first one years ago was devasting, especially since she should have disappeared right after Aku was defeated so that hit home hard. But seeing the secret ending either way it goes, was a truly great thing to see.
I've been wracking my brain to figure out how this ending is possible since Genndy himself said the game was canon, but it flat-out doesn't make sense if the original ending is also supposed to be canon. There are only three solutions I can think of for this: 1) When Genndy said this game would be canon, it was to imply that the original ending no longer would be canon, meaning that this remains as the only canonical ending to the series. But that still doesn't make total sense, as nothing changed that should have allowed for Ashi to continue to exist with Aku destroyed. 2) Both endings are canon, and Jack's adventure through the time pocket literally allowed him to branch off into a separate timeline. This time, Ashi is allowed to live, because the only way for Jack to have reached this alternate timeline is for him to have gone on this adventure in the pocket timeline. The only way for him to go through that adventure, is if he'd previously gone through all his other adventures to get to that point. Meaning, this alternate timeline and Ashi both share a common progenitor, which means Jack going back to the past via this new timeline doesn't result in a grandfather paradox that results in Ashi's death, because the new timeline itself only exists by virtue of Aku having taken over the future in the original timeline. So while this ending occurs as a consequence of this game's story, the original ending where Ashi dies is simultaneously occurring in the original timeline outside of this new one. 3) Genndy doesn't know what the word "canon" means and we have no idea which ending is the "true" ending. I'm going to go with the second option, because it's the only one that feels satisfying while also making a somewhat decent amount of sense to me.
In the case with why he’d be against that tree, I wonder if that’s him reflecting on his past endeavors and the many other friends he lost and/or undone the friendships he had formed with in that future but realizing it will still be alright in the end when seeing Ashi is still with him.
Really nice of them to switch out the re-dubbed audio of this scene and used the original audio from the first episode of Samurai Jack, not only does it better but it also gives let’s Mako have some part in the game.
She isnt really there. Its a metaphor. The lady bud represents Ashi and thats why she doesnt appear till the bug does because they were saying no1 is truly gone.
**sees the post-credits scene** I didn't know I needed this, emotionally, but I'm glad I did. I understood that the old ending was saying how the cost of the overall victory was the bad future...but **this** ending was something Jack deserved.
The fact they tease you with Ashi still being dead with the ladybug on the finger tells me they knew exactly what they were doing and I love the writers for it
Now..I love both endings for Samurai Jack, but I feel what they could of done that after Jack defeats Aku finally, the Deities reward jack with giving Ashi some way of remaining with Jack.
If we follow avengers endgame logic of time travel, Ashi can still exist because they returned to and created alternate past. They didn’t necessarily erase the original past. They are just now in an alternate universe.
