Depends on which game you are talking about. The Street Fighter franchise did make a lot of mechanics easier to execute, but then you got stuff like Guilty Gear and Tekken which may be even harder than before because of the amount of complex stuff thrown in.
In the arcade I worked at there used to be a lot of black dudes that played this game constantly and every time haomaru did his "Ougi Kogetsu Zan" they called it "come get you some!"
