Reflection wasn't approved by Watsuki; the manga had a much more light hearted ending. However, I think Reflection wraps up Kenshin's burdened heart, even though it was really depressing. It just showed how much he wanted and needed peace, that even having a new life with his son and wife couldn't help him forget his past.
The OVA episodes, and this song (rurouni kenshin in general) is the greatest piece of art that has ever been made. I dont usually listen to this kind of music very much, but this song almost makes me want to cry. I Watch anime every day, but there've never been as touching and well made story as rurouni kenshin is. When i found out that OVA-episodes had been made of rurouni kenshin I watched them immediately and they sure as hell didnt disappoint me. I had to watch them 4 times in a row. I'm almost angry for the makers of Kenshin for not doing more of the series ( A story about kenji? Tell more about the era, when he was still battousai? Makers could easily make another 50 episodes about the old Era, his training, assasinations, shinsengumi, everything in detail.) Every year i double check from google if anything has come out but still nothing. By now i've probably watched all episodes about kenshin for about 10 times. PLS MAKE MOAR!
A fine piece of art for sure. But ever made? you need to travel friend lol. Also, this world and the elements that breathe life into existence here on this plane rival any know material made by humans.
Jon Pajuniemi This anime and manga hit me deep just like you. I watched it once as a kid and didn't understand it. Then in my first year of University I rediscovered it and watched it all and read all the manga. It truly is a deep and magical series. It changed my life and my view of life.
This work of art had me in tears at the end of trust and betrayal and the end when he finally comes home to kaoru they remade the manga in this art form I just found out
Honestly never cared about Samurai X series however the OVA limited series won me over. I like the realism that the OVA brings and especially love the OVA soundtracks. Too bad Reflection ending was not canon but I love it anyway.
I know the ending for Reflections wasn’t canon, but to me it’s a was heart rending yet a fitting conclusion. I truly enjoyed Reflections. I can’t find the actual video of the ending of Reflections anywhere on the internet
Yeah I know...(it was my favorite arc besides Kyoto) but Reflection kinda finishes his story off with a sort of permanence and "this was his story, and this is how he wound up" instead of the usual "he lived happily ever after blahblah.." Cause...sometimes people need a reality check to know that not everyone's story ends like a fairy tale. Especially Kenshin's. Hell, he went through crap and all, but still not everyone gets to the rainbow after the storm.
I saw this movie for the very first time yesterday, thought it was ok. Not the spawn of Satan or the next best thing. Just decent. I’m a little biased because it reuses a similar art style to Trust and Betrayal, along with the OST. But that’s where it ends. I enjoyed the “fight scenes” but they were a little too short for my liking. I can see why this bittersweet ending would appeal to a lot of people because it emphasizes that Kenshin had a hard life and when he tried to stray from it, he paid the ultimate price. What I didn’t agree with, however, is how Kenshin received this disease out of nowhere and it seemed to be a thing only to tear at heartstrings. Was it effective? Possibly, but it feels like a cheap way to get you to feel sad. What I also didn’t agree with was how Kenshin after giving up his sword tried to help people... in what way? He himself states that without his sword, he can’t do much (which I don’t see why he couldn’t temporarily ask for it back from Yahiko) and the movie makes it clear several times that the era changes constantly. So if Kenshin knows this and sees that there are other issues that can’t be resolved, why continue to get involved with something that isn’t his fight? Did he not learn his lesson harshly when he tried to do that when he was an assassin? Something that caused him trauma? Why would he feel compelled to throw himself back into action again, after solidifying his love for Kaoru and her bearing him a child? I don’t agree with how the movie gave Kenshin these sudden motivations. I appreciate the bittersweet aspect but Kenshin should’ve lived the rest of his life in peace with Kaoru.
It does me because these are the songs I was listening too on the way to the hospital where my dad passed away. It just felt like the right kind of music.
@@jamespedersen2644 uhhhh. Well actually I’m kind of in the same situation as my mom now. Except she just has cancer, but it’s okay because music helps us through all kinds of times
@@zenverak it sure does, my life hasn't been all rainbows either it rarely is for most folks, but roruni kenshin and other animes helped me through it, especially the music helped me clear my bad emotions as you stated it really helps, I wish the best to your mom, and remember, the tunnel is dark, but if you continue walking, you will come to a better place🙏
Idk I just think Reflection...completed his legacy and let him find peace and quiet...exactly what he always wanted. It's called "reflection" after all. Reflecting on his life and all. If you think about it, it makes sense: he started out going through crap, more crap, found Kaoru, happy, happy, then it starts going downhill again. Like a reflection.
Some people do, strangely. There are quite a few chapters that take place after the Jinchuu arc in the manga and they all seemed pretty nice. You kinda want that fairy tale ending for a man who lived pretty much through living hell for the past 28 years of his life.
This is one clear example where the source material isn't better than the adaptation. Yeah the manga was good (of course, it is the source material) but the OVAs where just better. They made the story more epic, dramatic and full of passion, Im not talking about the romantic stuff, overall the OVAS are presented more elegantly, making you really care for all the charcters; and saying goodbye to kenshin in such an epic and sad way was more satisfying than just expecting him to die as an old man.
Not sure I completely agree. Trust and Betrayal definitely feel more real but this one made the true ending to the story...wrong...it made his redemption almost worthlelss IMO. But having said that, I also think its a fantastic piece taken separately.
I think of this as an alternative, not the real ending. Kenshin would never have left his wife and child. He found atonement by the end of the original series, and what the writers of this film did was refute that and sullied Kenshin's true self. The majority of the RK fandoms of which I belong to do not accept this ending, or the story following the jinchuu arc..It is a beautiful story, but it is not my Kenshin.
Yes he would. In fact all around him knew as well as himself. Kenshin was always on this path. His master was the first to speak on it and eventually others came to realize. Kenshin chose this path, he knew this would be the ending.
I think that if someday Watsuki write histories about Kenshin's last days of life, he will write something not much different from what Seisouhen showed.
she seeing him, her heart breakes, as he's really frail still he's trying to reach out to her, and as they reach out and hold on to each other, he almost silently says, I'm back(Tadaima😭 ).
i don't really consider it canon in my mind but reflections is not a bad thing. it's more of a fanfiction type of movie to me. but still the art style is great even if i didn't really care for the story all that much.
apparently it's officially not canon either...which I remember watching it and I loved it...cried my eyes out :( I wish it was canon, I thought ti was until....well just a few minutes ago.
I think this is really one of the most powerfull soundtracks in the whole world. Epic. (Not pathos!). This music and sountrack kicks ass of best epic hollywood (and others) films soundtracks. Minimum - on one level. Powerfullest sountrack... All life with grief and sorrow, difficult disicions, choice of path... are here in this music. Heavy memory. Hard times. Losses... Masterpiece composition. P.S. sorry for not very good english.
@617edoub Well I liked the flash back in the first OVA trust and betreyal but a 10 episode mini series would be better maybe introduce some dark characters and make us realise why he changed so much to become the wanderer. I know this series isn't canon but lets face facts there are thousands of shows like Samurai X the wanderer but only a few like this.
nunca se supo de que murio finalmente kenshin, unos dicen que de SIDA, otros que de tuberculosis, otros de lepra por causa de sus heridas, pero en realidad nadie sabe con certeza de que murio kenshin y kaoru, un triste final para un guerrero.
Not really. You can see their emotions during the anime series. Trust and betrayal had no emotions whatsoever as well. And in this one, you can see that due to the events that took place before, there's no room for emotions anymore.
It actually was CANON. It was mentioned several times in the Manga that this would happen to Kenshin if he continued at his pace. Kenshin accepted the risk and kept going. It was his choice. It was very much connected and it was beautiful.
This movie was not a beautiful piece,Kenshin died like a dog,I admit it was good but still, you can't kill Kenshin like that, even the creator didn't like it,They should of followed the manga,he didn't die then
disagree. Kenshin knew this was his fate all along and he accepted his fate from day 1. It was what he did while he lived that moved himself and those around him. It was the sacrifice that created the legend. This final act was in keeping with everything he spoke of and everything he fought for in his life.
