Samyang/Rokinon MF 14mm f2.8 on Nikon Z (with samples) | Can a $330 MANUAL lens really be any good?

A months ago I have purchased the completely manual Samyang MF 14mm f2.8 lens. I had my doubts about the usefulness of this lens, so let's see if I made a mistake purchasing this. In some parts of the world Samyang is known as Rokinon, but they are the same lenses. I also provide you with sample images taken with the Samyang 14mm f2.8 on the Nikon Z6 body.

Great job! I bought this lens a month ago. I use it for shooting real estate videos on my Panasonic S5. It works very well for that purpose!

Great review bro, I had the 20mm manual, brilliant lens and the 14mm AF, but sold both haha now i have the Sony 24mm GM instead of those two

Good Camera lenses are ridiculously expensive. Samyang does us hobbyists a favour by building affordable lenses with more than just acceptable results. I bought and use this lens for my 5600 DX some years ago and now use it with a mount for my Nikon z30

J'ai eu la version Nikon F. Belles prestations si maitrise de l'hyperfocale. Passé au format Z depuis peu, je songe à racheter cet objectif en monture Z. Merci pour votre vidéo.

You mean a Nikkor lens? Unfortunately not really. The comparison I have is with 10-14mm DX lens, which I talk about in the video, but as that's a crop lens the comparison isn't entirely fair. However I think given the price difference the comparison wouldn't be fair one way or the other. Samyang are budget lenses, whereas Nikkor are not.

Isnt there the XP 14mm f2.4 for Nikon? Is that available with Native Z mount? Does it communicate with the Z6 II?

Hi there. You are correct the XP 14mm f2.4 is available for Nikon, but only on F mount, and it's meant to be for above 50mp cameras, specifically DSLRs. So although the Z7 gets close to that, there isn't a native Z mount yet. That being said, if you have and FTZ adapter, you should still be able to use it, since it's MF anyway.

I only need 2 more lenses to fill out my kit after getting one of these. the G 18-105 and the G 70-200 II. i should have enough money saved for the first one by Christmas, as i will say HEY HUNNY that's what i want for Christmas LOL, I got this lens NEW NEW NEW for 170.00 on ebay.

Is the af version of this lens better?

I guess? Not really sure. It does the focussing for you, so if that's better/worth it to you, then I would say yes? I personally don't own the AF version, but from the reports that I have seen the AF version doesn't have any real improvements to this MF version (other than the focus mode, obviously). Honestly, I just couldn't pass up the deal on this, which isn't something I could say about the AF one.

Funnily enough no, not according to the reviews of it the AF version isn't as sharp.

I suggest not to make such films and not to mislead people. This lens is sharp from full hole corner to corner. Besides, the lens is sealed.

I really want to buy it for my Nikon z50 but my parents still think that this is eay expensive, when i try them to explain How really cheap it it. They Treat me like a fool😂

Ah the Z50, great entry level mirrorless! I completely understand your parents. Photography is such an expensive thing to get into, and even the more reasonably priced/cheap gear is still a lot of money. Maybe show them this video, so they see how much value for money this lens represents? :D

Great way to defeat the purpose of buying a quality camera body like the Z6, put cheap glass on it.

Disagree. Yes, putting any old cheap lens on it, does rather defeat the purpose. However, that is kind of the point of this video, that you don't in fact need to splurge thousands on pounds/dollars/euros on a lens just to get good quality images. If you use it right, the images this lens produces are way above usable. I have been able to sell several images taken with this lens, which turn has paid for the lens itself. The Z6 has become even more affordable now as a body, making this combo all the more relevant. You are of course free to disagree with me on this, that is your right, however many agree that this presents an excellent compromise. Photography is very expensive. This lowers the price floor significantly, without producing garbage images.

@@EVDubs that is so true, selection of lens is purely based on what the end result has to be. Why splurge more when you can do it with a cheaper lens fpr your own purpose.

I totally get that, honestly, but context is important. Nikkor S Line or Canon L Glass are very expensive, and although they may be of higher quality, which they are, but with this at least you can still get the shot. I'm not going to pretend that this $300 lens does the same job as my $2000 Nikkor lens, that's ridiculous, but I did use the Samyang to help me earn my way up to the Nikkor and was able to upgrade much sooner than I would otherwise have. I hope you still enjoyed the video.
