Amen bro! Spurs Basketball is BASKETBALL at its finest! Sure there are other amazing teams that move the ball well, but there is just something special about the NBA Spurs that just doesn't exist in the mainstream game of Basketball!
it is the spurs gameplay on early 2000 that change the modern nba best example is warriors basketball steve kerr came from spurs and he knows how exactly how pop coach
DC Comics The most part of the team has been built and not bought (Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Kawhi, Diaw, Mills), but ofc there will be some exeptions ;D
+SpursOverAll Not to mention LA wanted to come home and to a winning organization to get a ring so its not like we overpaid him cause other teams would've paid more
+southsidesman Its because coaching in all proffesional sports today sucks it sucks it sucks it sucks it sucks. All coaches today have sticks up their asses. Few great coaches in pro sports: Popp in the NBA, Belicheck in the NFL. Sports were once beautyy because of the great coaching. OMG if you want to watch team sports watch the 1985 celtics watch the 1977 trailblazers, watch the USSR hockey teams, watch the great defense of Tom landy and the cowboys way back then. Watch how jimmy johnson built the early mid 90s cowboys not off of big bruising fat asses but a small lightweight defense that packed a massive punch. Watch the russian 5 of the detroit redwings in the 90s, watch the patriots they dont need star wide receivers or superstar runningbacks they need a fucking qb his name is tom brady and a good offensive line and stout defense. Watch the great 49ers teams led by the general Walsh they played the game of football. Watch the great steelers led by Chuck Knoll who played smashmouth defense they grinded the snot out of you played as a unit. Those are leaders those are TEAMS, that is what sports SHOULD BE. Problem is ego, stupid kids listening to gangster rap and shootem up and EGO EGO EGO EGO. They only care about ME ME ME. When you sacrifice the individual for the whole you get a thing of beauty when you make the pass to the open man instead of taking it to the hoop with 2 guys on you thats TEAM. Kids today want to be like Lebron James, Kobe, Megatron, Adrian Peterson cuz their SUPERSTARS. But ill laugh and tell you when i was growing up i looked up to bob cousy, I looked up to Larry Bird, I looked up to Anatoli Tarasov the master of Soviet Hockey, I looked up to Bill Russell, I looked up to Bill Parcels, Tom Landry, Chuck Knoll, Red Auerbach. Leaders of MEN
@Bread And Circuses With actual teamwork and offball movement with disciplined defense. Nowadays younger players just wanna be the next Steph Curry, KD, or LeBron. The amount of 3 pointers that brick makes me sad to watch the modern game.
Also, even if they give the Spurs hip-hop music, it's some old-school ass-kicking beats like "Shook Ones, Part 2" (check out the BIG commercial with the Spurs).
My favorite part of this video is seeing Tony Parker talk with Pop and then go to the team. Seeing the whole team come together to listen to another player like that is just awesome
the Spurs played phenomenal defense in 2014 finals. people overlook it because of the offense (which is a disgustingly common trend in basketball now) but Leonard, Green, Diaw, and Duncan all played exceptional lock down defense against Miami in that series, and in the playoffs overall.
Chris Hebert 2014 was the best yr Spurs got their revenge against MIA to win the 🏆🙌🏻! It was good to see them keep their players from 2014 team to try to go for a repeat but then loss to Clippers in 7 games👎🏻! Then that’s when Warriors always started to go NBA Finals for past 3 yrs after Spurs last championship 😔! It would have been better to see Spurs defend their first championship against Warriors 2015
Yeah, Barkley said he thinks Pops is the best coach ever because he first won it with bigs as their best players (Robinson/Duncan), then won it with guards as their best players (Parker/Ginobili), and then again with a wing (Leonard) as his best player, and then he's won defense-first and with offense. He can win with any style.
I honestly think he's one of the greatest passers of all time. I've seen him thread the most ridiculous from the smallest angles of the longest distances. It's insane how he sees those things.
And nine years later The Spurs have another number one draft pick with another generational big man in the draft! You can’t write a more poetic situation🥲
But won´t be another manu... That was the best pick in the history of the NBA... How many times you can pick in the 57 position one of the all time greats...
Fun fact: everyone in San Antonio watches this video at least once a month to be reminded what life is all about. It’s not just bball, the Spurs taught us a huge lesson in teamwork that applies to life. - a native San Antonian
Yeah, just cross the border and demand hand outs in a country you’re in illegally like you’re entitled to it. All while believing your home country you ran away from is the greatest while hating the very place you were desperate to live in 🤡
Not a San Antonian and I do watch it from time to time. As you so well put it, it’s not just bball, the Spurs taught us a huge lesson in teamwork that applies to life.
陳祈睿 this video is a reflection of who these guys are as people. you never hear about them getting into trouble, running off at the mouth, shenanigans, nothing. they represent EVERYTHING good about the game, on and off the court
other than Manu-Parker this is a whole new core (you can argue that green and Leonard are also part of old generation since they played in old Timmy era) and if Leonard didn't get hurt last year you could also ague that they would have maybe pulled a miracle again
Build A Fire basically San Antonio was one of the greatest Teams to ever exist. A Guy called Tim Duncan was drafted in 1997 and brought in a title along side a guy called David Robinson. The spurs drafted Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili which formed a “Big 3” they together won 4 championships 2003 2005 2007 2014 but Tim Duncan has 5. Later they were building the franchise around a guy they traded for in the draft called Kawhi Leonard he was one of the brightest stars in the Nba and the spurs had taken him in like a son but Kawhi got injured and the team started to trash talk and rumors and politics got in the way and Kawhi left the team. Now the Team sucks and is struggling to make the playoffs which they never missed since 1997.
No matter what you believe in, look like, and talk like, if you are from SA you love the spurs and will always love them. The spurs know it’s a different kind of love for them
To me, I always feel that Spurs hasn’t been receiving the same amount of support other teams do. Like I’ve never seen SA home court audiences dress the same colour shirts like the other would.
My first game in person was Spurs vs timberwolves in 1992. Been to many games since, through moving to Georgia, dallas, SA, back and forth, and ending up on a little island outside of Jacksonville. There will never be another team like this. There will never be another Timmy, another Manu, another Tony. Just so damn glad my lifelong team represented my favorite city and doing it with class, joy, and sportsmanship. Go Spurs Go!
A team like this may never happen again. There aren't enough players so willing to play team ball in the entire league. The Spurs were so special, and so much fun to watch. And I'm a Boston fan.
Boston Boy this is ol' Texperado. Mikie from San Antoniork. If yer ever in the Big Apple the First 1 tru 5 rounds are on me ....1 , 4 every Campionship Year. Wait a minute I'm in NYC.
Wht noooooooooooooo I had my 2k17 idea with them my home town center why do people get old why😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I want kobe, jordan, 2011 rose (before he became a crip), KD before he trade, shaq, and other legends. why 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
1:11 This is my favorite part. How when Tony Parker went to the bench to talk to the team, instead of just a couple people listening, the entire team was listening to what he had to say.
It's 2024, I had to take a trip back to memory lane to watch greatness, to watch the definition of what team basketball is. Watching this is bitter sweet, and It brought tears to my eyes. I am just thankful i was alive to witness it. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
A lot of great teams have had "Dynasties." This defies that. This is new. This is something I'll be telling my children about. This goes beyond a "Dynasty." This is a story.
Exactly!! Their all any fan can ask for in a team. I've been a fan since Robinson's rookie year. And I can honestly say there hasn't been even one second where I thought they gave a half ass effort, quit early, or just didnt care. Even years they lost, you knew they left it all on the floor. I have a 7 year old, that was born same year the Spurs won it all. It's awesome seeing him become a Spurs fan now, and seeing the right way to play the game. Bad news for the rest of the league though, I've got my 2nd son due in March!! Uh oh!! lol. GO SPURS!
'' tiiagoooo spliiteeeeer '' - Stephen A. Smith. That really sums up Stephen A. Smith's career. He doesn't care if you are a good basketball player. As long as you don't have the name you are a bust in his book. Tiago could play. Maybe even to much of a team player.
Thiago was a smart player and did everything Pop asked him to do. BUT all the weak finishes (missed or blocked) around the basket instead of dunking it pissed me off.
Here periodically to remember one of the best basketball systems and dynasties ever existed, imho. In particular, the championship run against the Heat, the revenge after the game7 loss of the previous year, the amazing team actions, man I get shivers
It really is poetry in motion and a thing of beauty to watch. The way they move the ball around the floor and defenders are constantly scrambling really wears them down by the third and fourth quarters. Other teams seek individual stats; this is just straight up team basketball and a physical chess match that they excelled at
Growing up in Dallas of course there is going to be alot of Mavs Fans. .. Not Me! !! I remember when I was younger , my Father being the Mavericks fan that he is got me a Mavs Jersey I never wore it. It just hung there in my closet. My mom's side of the family is from San Antonio so we would visit a couple times a year I was always amazed how the city was so crazy and loyal for the only professional Team they had. I'm Proud to be a SA Spurs Fan !! All the crap I got At school for wearing my Favorite Team's jersey Its well worth it!!! Go Spurs Go!!!!
Carlos Rangel honestly bro. Here in San Antonio that's all we like to do. I'm glad you wore it loud and proud. You chose the best team to represent. It's sad how we will never see that again. When Duncan and Diaw and marco left it was never the same.
Gotta learn to appreciate this. Some of these older guys are in the twilight of their careers but they are holding on because they know the teamwork and effort along with one of the best coaches in the league gives them a chance at a championship every season since 2013. Doesn't matter how many fans sleep on them because their younger team is more athletic or what not. The Spurs will do what they do best and if the younger teams can't keep up in the playoffs, you know whats up.
It puts the rest of the country to sleep when it's just the Spurs or Lakers in the Finals every year. Boring! I'm tired of it.I don't want to watch that shit year after year after year.
Pop´s Spurs are just like Guardiola´s FC Barcelon Phylarmonic, they both played an *amazing* team game. It is the sort of stuff we will see on sports documentaries when we get old. We are privileged for having the chance to witness this.
That was beautiful. I cried too. How can people call the Spurs boring to watch? They play beautiful ball. Team ball. They way it should be played. If you're a bball purist, and love the game you should love and applaud this team. If you don't like the way they play or at least respect it, your not really a fan of the game. You should go to the circus or a monster truck show or something else. Just my opinion. Love this team. I hope Timmy plays til he's 50. Gonna be sad the day he retires. #21 we love you.
Its been almost 10 years since the 2014 Spurs, and i still tear up watching this video. When you face the toughest test of your life, remember that this team never gave into despair, they never folded despite the worst collapse of their lives. You can always find redemption. You just gotta believe.
You wouldn’t be able to understand how much Tony Parker did for the sport in France, and how much this kind of selfless play style marked a generation and made the spurs a place in French basketball fans hearts, particularly with wemby being draft in there. That’s the kind of play style teached in French basketball clubs, that’s the kind of play style that marked a generation, even outside the US.
the most beautiful part of this video is seeing that Ginobilis smile on the face as he dribbles the ball through the legs of the opposing player... because thats what its all about, having fun while doing the thing you love, and doing it good because of that
When i dont have a family member or friend to turn to during the tough times i watch this and realize everything is gonna be ok. Spurs dynasty is like that of a living royal bloodline one i can respect and in years to come emulate. Thanks San Antonio for all of it.
Paul Klinger your exactly right man me too.. things haven't been so good for me lately and im born and raised in SA and every time I watch this video it gives me hope that everything is gonna be ok
It's great to have a super player making 50 points per game, but it is much better to have players playing as a team. That is the purpose of a sport like basketball.
+fedecasares I recall when the 77' Portland Trailblazers came from 2-0 down to win 4 in a row against the talented one on one oriented Phila 76ers with Erving, McGinnis and Collins. The Blazers were the forefathers of the Spurs and maybe the mid 80's Celtics. The way the game was meant to be played. A fun way where everyone is involved and relevant.
+southsidesman Totally agree. He had to be on the Bulls. The Spurs were more like the N Carolina teams he played on in college. A tribute to him he could do both successfully.
I'm a diehard Boston Celtics fan, but man, over the years I have grown to really just be in awe of how the San Antonio Spurs do business. I am a little embarrassed to have been known to say, once upon a time, 'man, the spurs? they are so boring!' I am pleased to report that I have since come to my basketball senses and now they are my second favorite team! I have watched this video about 10 times in the past week, and every time, I have chills for virtually the entire time. It is absolutely poetry in motion, five guys moving, passing, creating...it's a wonder why more NBA teams (save the Atlanta Hawks, to some degree now) don't adopt more of this system. Of course, in order for it to be executed so flawlessly, they do have some incredible players and future hall of famers, so that is working to their advantage as well. Nevertheless, they all make it work and it is a joy. I have been staying up mad late the last week watching the Clippers series and last night was a tough one for the Spurs to lose. I am hoping they can eke out a Game 7 win @ Staples Saturday night, because I do not want to see this dynasty come to an end just quite yet. And, if there was ever a team that could win a Game 7 on the road, it certainly and without a doubt, is the San Antonio Spurs! From a fan in Boston, MA... GO SPURS GO!
I mean, I think they actually were kinda boring before they traded for Diaw in 2012. They always had a methodical and meticulous charm to them that hardcore NBA fans appriciated, but once they traded for Diaw and supercharged their offense they became beautiful.
I think the entire 2014 season of the Spurs can be archived and shown for many many years as educational material of how basketball is played. I remember seeing the ball movement and coordination and just sitting on the edge of my seat. I don't think basketball had been played to this level of perfection, as a team, since the 80s. And it hasn't after the fact.
The word you're looking for is "basketball". You cant describe it any other way. Magic Johnson couldn't. It's just the definition of the game watching them play. Its beautiful.
If you're a fan of any other team, you're still a fan of basketball, so you have to love this. This is what Larry Brown used to call "playing the right way". If you play or have played basketball in any form, you wished you were on a team like this.
I probably have comments buried throughout this comment section. I've watched this thing so many times over the years, but it still brings tears to my eyes. When you experience greatness like this, at some level you know it won't last - and it didn't. But, you will always have the memory. And to be privileged enough to watch these three greats in particular sharing their love for the game and one another is a gift.
I miss this version of the Spurs. They showed that team basketball wins championship against superteams. That's why other teams like GSW and Denver adopted it to suit their team.
miss them.. what’s even more amazing is that they made this fabulous season after they were heartbreakingly defeated by the heat in finals the previous year
whenever I see the spurs I am being inspired to be nice to people, they are the nicest individuals on the planet. very humble and respectful. great role models to the younger generations. they can manage to be very competitive and maintain that adorable attitude in the air all at the same time. respect and honor. I love this team so much.
Amazing how the world can't see the greatness of Duncan likes they should! He is truly one of the greatest to ever step on the court & Ginobili was also!
Manu is the only one that can say he is a true world champion. He almost single handedly defeated the American All Star Team in the Olympics. The Best of The Best Could Not Defeat Ginobili and he is truly Thee Greatest of All Time !
8 years later and the spurs are still playing the same way. This year they are leading the league with 30.8 APG. The most APG by a team since the Showtime Lakers. #gospursgo
From a guy who lives down in San Antonio and a long time Spurs fan this was really cool to see and hear. They have always been a team who focuses on teamwork and fundamental basketball not being flashy or whatever and its just a great time. Its like watchin a classic game of ball from back in the day and anyone who knows the sport well enjoy watchin the Spurs
As a young pistons fan, i hated san antonio when they beat us in 2005. Now, i have nothing but the utmost respect for this team. Absolutely my favorite team (aside from detroit). They play like a together and have imo the greatest coach in nba history. It may not be the most entertaining to watch, but anyone who is a basketball fan knows that this dynasty is one of a kind. I truly hope they repeat this year (although golden state is looking pretty good). When it comes down to it, they are what the 2004 pistons would have been if they kept everyone together.
Mannnnn. People totally forget about ma man Tiago Splitter. He’s one of the guys that appears the most in the clip and he’s only remembered for that block Lebron gave him. Very skilled and high Basketball IQ for a big man
Who’s here in 2020? Spurs likely won’t make the playoffs..... after 22 years ... Forever will remain tied with the longest streak 22 year consecutive playoffs. (SuperSonics I think did it in the 50’s to the 70’s) Spurs did it in 3 eras! The most class A basketball Team the NBA will ever know. I come back to watch the old spurs to remind me what basketball is all about and what great basketball was for 22 years (I’m 28 btw...) so that’s a long time of seeing spurs awesomeness! I even learned this piano song because of this video! Divinire- by Ludovico Eiunaudi ❤️
Yes and no. They move the ball to generate a 3 most of the time. The way the Spurs move the basketball is straight textbook teamwork. Most teams overly rely on a iso bailout instead of moving the ball around for a mismatch down low or back door cut.
Pop would probably say I'm crazy for coming back to this and the other video every month or so when I need a bit of inspiration on how to compete, work as a team and lead, but I do.
Mavs fan here, but I agree with everyone. The Spurs are just unfairly good, and the Warriors are the team that's going to carry the torch once the Spurs are done.
