I'm watching this after your National video and I'm impressed by your hustle. You have been working hard these past few weeks. I hope you get some rest and enjoy the spoils of your work.
We need more videos like this! I’ll never be able to afford a blue chip key like that.. so appreciate you letting me live through the experience with you! Well deserving of a follow! Thanks for the fun ride!
This was an awesome video 💯 From the fire alarm to the 3R’s and finding out about X-MEN 3 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Dan your doing great and always watch but hard to find time to comment 👊👍🔥 This one was Hobby History documented for the Future 💯👊
Congrats !! The birth of the X-men. The birth of a franchise, even though that's a lot of money to put into for a comic book but at least you got yourself a piece of history. When this issue first came out back in the 60's, i heard it wasn't that popular you can just get this for the cover price at any local drugstore or grocery store. Wish i had a time machine...lol !!
I remember when I did my transition into comics and I bought my first grader comic which was a secret wars #1, it’s definitely a different feeling when it’s in your possession
Congratulations Daniel! It's a great book and a rare one at that. Just imagine that the X-men franchise is one of the books that built the Marvel empire to what it is today. I don't think that Stan "the man" Lee could've envisioned what his creation created. All the best!
Congrats!!!! My next book is X-men 1 waiting for CGC to send some books back so I can get the money to purchase a 1.8-2.5 range. Love the cover great choice! Rarer book for sure.
I have been a collector of comics for a few years, but I started out with sports cards and sports memorabilia before that. I decided a couple years ago that I would focus on comic books more, but I occasionally try and find sports cards and memorabilia to add to my collection as well. I think those two interests (comics and sports cards/sports memorabilia) are probably the two best markets to get into.
@@TheGreatCurator. If you're in the market to buy more slabs let me know. I don't overprice books and love giving deals. And I'm a pretty nice guy too... at least that's what people tell me :)
Awesome vlog! (Subscribed) Thanks for taking us along for the ride to SDCC and big congrats for snagging that beautiful copy of X-Men 1. I was wondering if maybe you coulda countered back with a $12,000 offer? It feel like perhaps there could've been some wiggle room maybe?
Great pick! Even if it dips short term. In the long run it will always keep going up. It's a book everyone wants in their PC. Like Spiderman, Superman, etc.
Congrats on your purchase X-Men 1. Great pick up. I sold mine about 1 year ago for 10k. It was a CGC 1.8 off white. I still have a 9.4 GSX-Men 1. Aloha 🤙
Your so very welcome. Its Definitely keeper and it's only going to up in value specially once the MCU start adding more mutants in there movies to come.
Great job on the photo coverage Dan! I've never heard of the 3 Rs before - interesting. Not sure what he meant by "relevance" with respect to a collectible? Congratulations on the X-Men comic. I know zero about comics. Best of luck at the National. I'm kind of surprised you went thru your cash reserve before the "main event?" If your wife is like mine? Mine always has a reserve I can tap...👍
I remember when I was a kid back in the mid 1970s, my best friend's dad (who was an executive at Ford Motor Co.) bought him X-Men #1 for his birthday, in great condition, for around $500.00 - which I thought at the time was an insane amount of money to spend for a stupid comic book! 😆 It ended up getting completely trashed when he moved (cover got torn off, and the rest mangled) so he threw it away!
I agree that this is a much better buy then the hulk just out of rarity and its upward trend in the future. As much as I want to get into comic collecting I can't bring myself to spend that much money on a book. It's not even about the money, I regularly drop 500k on stock options every week but I get anxious about being responsible for keeping a book in good condition for 10+ years. I would also want it too much to resell.
Great book! Is it best to bring cash at comic con for a big book like that or did you venmo/PayPal to pay for it? I plan on going to comic con this year and plan on buying a key book as well but not sure if I should bring a lot of cash with me or just use a cash app to pay for a big purchase? What do you suggest?
If you going to start buying some Blue Chip Keys comic make sure to ask for some grades notes & the comic market right now is a roller coaster with prices so I wish luck ! But honestly BIG W on the X-men 1
congrats daniel, huge get, good luck with the long term hold. don't panic during this volatile time collectibles seem to be in, like the stock market, long term it goes back up. Your wife was the star of this vlog. the looks on her face - nervous, yet supportive. and clearly just wanted to GTFO. good luck at the National! looking forward to some vlogs and recap
It's always good to diversify investments, love the pick up bro. Good luck to you in NJ make some good content and most def try to break even and beyond
I would think the most rapid value increase for X-men 1 would between the next announcement for an X-men related film and the film’s release. It could have another rapid increase if the film is well-received by fans. As shown at this SDCC, the film would most likely be announced there so at least one year away, possibly two. We know they’re working on it, and they seemed to be testing the waters with the inclusion of an alternate dimension Professor X in the recent Doctor Strange film. When the pandemic first happened I was looking at CGC’d Giant-Size X-men 1 but I ultimately didn’t do it. The value went up by a lot the last time I checked.
Congrats on the purchase, but can anyone confirm for me if this is an overpay? HA had one sell for $11.4k a month ago. Market is going down a bit and prices are starting to relax. And now we know the X-Men won't likely appear in the MCU for a while, so you are talking more of at least a two or three year hold and not one year. Anyway, I would definitely take the X-Men 1 over the GSX1 or H181.
@@TheGreatCurator. Okay good! I am also curious on how the National goes and what the opinion is of your new comic! I am guessing you will be able to sell it for a quick profit which would be nice!
Of the 3 you were thinking about buying, you made the right choice. I would have done the same. Want to know more comic books, check out some good comic book youtubers like me. lol. There are some great comic book youtubers out there.
@@TheGreatCurator. I think you are the only one I know who went to San Diego Comic Con (the biggest comic con )and going to National (The biggest sports cards con). It is small world, the seller who you bought from, I also have bought 3 books from them and the NekoBooks was in my last RU-vid video. Last time I went to San Diego Comic Con was in 2019.
Went to my first Comic-Con 2019 New York City where I'm from Oriental guy I was standing there bought X-Men number one 5.0 White Pages for $9,000 from that time X-Men 1 shot up he knew something
Went to SDCC for the first time lol I’ll be honest not worth it lol just crowded and loaded with venders and over priced merch. At least I went once I can check it off my list but won’t be returning.
15:57 grading has killed collecting for most people. To me, it's a waste of money to send a collection item to someone who doesn't have the knowledge to say what something is worth. I've seen items at shows with the highest ratings that are faded and tears. Maybe at one time, it was a good idea but now Millionaires and Billionaires have screwed up the grading and inflated the prices of things by buying their own items at auctions from thousands to even millions over the item's real worth. this happened in the 80s and we didn't learn anything. Just look at retro videos games to see how grading has inflated the prices, now it's spreading to every collectible out there
Very old comics to collect...I don't know, maybe prefer to invest into original comics art. The paper of ancient comics is so fragile. Great Curator have you ever see or read French comics ? Please all collectors give your money drectly to the artist ,if possible..avoid sellers they just do business on the artist's back, they didn't create anything.
Hey, absolutely fantastic video! I can't wait for NYCC this year! Have you checked out Veve Collectibles. It's basically a way one stop to all Nerd things! It's basically a comic con itself. I would love to message you and talk to you more about it!
