We've all heard of the Old 300 in Texas History -- Stephen F. Austin's first colony. But what happened to them? This is the untold story of the first Texas Capital, the settlers that lived there at the beginning of Texas...and why many of us have never heard of this town that might just be one of Texas's most important historic sites.
Watch the video to learn how these brave Texans had to take drastic measures to protect Texas as they fled from Santa Ana and his pursuing army.

Just moved to bellville, down the road from San Felipe. I have a lot of admiration for mr. Austin. One of my most favorite things about Texas is it’s history.

There actually was a battle at San Felipe, not a big one by any means but my great-great (X2) grandfather (James Talbet Ross) along with Mosley Baker and others engaged the Mexican Army from the East Bank after burning the town. Museum is less than a mile from I10 near Sealy, well worth the stop. They have done a really good job.

Of course San Antonio de Bexar was capital of Spanish Texas. San Felipe de Austin, capital of Austin's Colony, 1824 - 1836, served as the capital of Texas 1835 - 1836. West Columbia was the capital of the Republic of Texas from September to December 1836. Then the capital was moved to Houston, then eventually to Austin.

Who ever had children out of the old 300 they were Mexican babies because they were born in Mexico. The colony grew to about 1500 so there were lots of Mexican born in the colony.
