The blind,Elderly, disabled, families, dog walkers, steep driveways, selfish car owners…..It is ILLEGAL to block the public sidewalks!!! Suspect people who do NOT walk have NO clue…duh!!!
@@byefelicia8632the person is saying that the cars are not more of a problem than tents. E.g. both are a problem. You really misread what someone said so you could tell a disabled person to walk...? What?
You crack down on law-abiding taxpayers, but you're not cracking down on criminals who break the law by vandalizing cars and property. This lack of action in progressive democratic cities is outrageous.
The report is about people blocking the side walk with their vehicles and sounds like you or a family member isn’t disabled. Criminals and all that argument is a different subject and you can talk about that on those forums. Stick to the subject.
@@zrllzr Being cited for blocking the sidewalk is not a new occurrence. I was ticketed as early as 1989 for blocking the sidewalk when I lived on Baker Street.
You are NOT being ticketed for parking in your driveway, your ticket is for BLOCKING THE SIDEWALK! As someone who uses a cane and soon a mobility scooter, I depend on a clear sidewalk. Don’t park your car or ride your bike on the sidewalk.
The city can't make money fast enough are you kidding? I work in the dog patch, and we haven't seen a meter maid here in a year to enforce time limit parking.
Here's an idea, park in your garage! 😂😂😂😂😂 sidewalks are for walking not parking. California has ADA laws. If you are going to let attorneys harass restaurant owners then also ticket cars blocking the sidewalk 😮.
Why did they stop enforcing this in the first place? I left in 1992. I never parked like that. First, it's rude. 2. BLIND people have a hard enough time. 3. disabled, wheelchairs. Wow, very selfish people out there.
If the SFMTA is really concerned about pedestrian safety, I think the more urgent and dangerous issue is vehicles blocking intersections and crosswalks.
It’s not so much that people love to park on the sidewalk it’s that SF will literally do anything but clean up all the bums off the streets! That’s what grinds my gears!!
they are not parked in their driveways they are parked on the public sidewalk. this is not a new issue. in the past neighbors have called parking enforcement on cars sticking one inch over onto public property. having half your SUV block the sidewalk is not really excusable. I am not sure what a creative solution would be here other than parking in your garage. there obviously isn't enough street parking.
They know they can ticket house owners with no rise up. But if they start to ticket homeless , a bunch of non-homeowners or even SF residents will start huge complaints. Most people that want homeless people to be able to tent anywhere in SF usually dont even live in SF.
Exactly how do you expect someone who can't afford a home to pay a ticket? I hate seeing folk camping on the sidewalk, it's freaking annoying as hellt and sad, but I also don't think it's effective to ticket or force them to move. What the research has indicated is forced moving delays some of them being able to find more steady, not on the street housing. I'd rather the city focus on fixing the building department so much more housing gets built, improve addiction and mental health resources and outreach,.etc. so people can afford homes and not be homeless.
This has always been an issue, and many people get cited in every neighborhood, now they complain. You can't block the sidewalk 36" minimum width ADA compliance.
I had to quit my job because of residential parking tickets. So hard to do anything in SF nowadays. It's like a total drag and a hassle living or working in the city now.
It's not that the MTA is cracking down, it's just that someone is calling to complain more often, and when they get a call they will ticket not just the location of the complaint but literally every car on the block that is partially blocking the sidewalk, this is not a new thing at all, just an uptick in Karening in their neighborhood now. The problems come when having small part of the car moving into the ill-defined "sidewalk" area, for instance that Asian guy looks to be parking on the concrete in front of the house, not the sidewalk (which also may not be legal but that's another issue), however the front of his wheel and his mirror overlap that "sidewalk zone" so if someone called the MTA to complain about a sidewalk blocker i.e. that big grey truck shown earlier in the video that was completely blocking it, then he would also probably get a ticket as well. "Leaving enough space for people to get by" is not enough for ticket writers. An aside though, SFMTA usually doesn't ticket cars during the hours of street sweeping as a matter of personal policy.
You. Ant park on the sidewalk. You own a place with a short driveway, that is on you. Park inside your garage! Kids, those in wheelchairs, why should they be forced out onto the street? But I also think homeless tents blocking sidewalks is an even bigger issue and those need to be ticketed and then removed one way or another. Poop and needles everywhere is a huge issue also. Out of control crime and criminals set free over and over again, yet another huge issue. I think cars blocking the sidewalk in front of homes is on the bottom of the list. Blocking the sidewalk does keep tents off those sidewalks.
Did you see ANY poop or needles or tents in the video?? Those are actually not common AT ALL but people are blocking the sidewalks everywhere and forcing moms with strollers and people in wheelchairs to venture out into the streets where they could get KILLED.
Did you see ANY hobos or drugs or trash in the video?? Those are actually not common AT ALL but people are blocking the sidewalks everywhere and forcing moms with strollers and people in wheelchairs to venture out into the streets where they could get RUN OVER. I guess you support babies and old people getting CRUSHED!
San Francisco is broke, and MTA needs money desperately by issuing as many parking tickets they can get from homeowners parking their vehicles on their driveways in SF.
@sdsk8rboi did you not watch the part where they mentioned it had been ignored for years clearly it was never about blocking sidewalks otherwise it would have always been enforced.
Finally they are paying attention to pedestrians and esp those with disabilities. For far too long the rights of those of us using the sidewalks have been trampled upon. Just park on the street. Not the sidewalk.
The driveway ends at the property line. The curb cut is a statutory easement to permit people to drive to and from their driveway across the sidewalk. If this easement didn't exist they'd be landlocked, hence anyone encroaching private property - including the public - has to provide access. They definitely don't have to provide parking. In practical terms though, as long they don't completely block the sidewalk I don't think any reasonable person really cares. Except for the largest vehicles this is easily accomplished by parking with the rear bumper in line with other parked vehicles on the street. The real culprit here is the very few who force pedestrians out into the street to get around vehicles completely blocking the sidewalk.
So selective enforcement is ok? Cite the bigger vehicles only? Letter of the law and spirit of the law. Cite one, Cite them all if they are all in violation
Reporter said: "Not enforced until now", but that's not true. My neighborhood was targeted in 2018 and 2021. SF meter maids choose different neighborhoods to target every year, and allow some years between enforcement periods to maximize their catch. Normally, this law is not enforced on street cleaning days. This don't block sidewalks law was created to help wheelchair users have access, and punish inconsiderate drivers blocking sidewalks. But the law allows citations even if vehicle body is only an inch into sidewalk, even though there's plenty of space for a wheelchair. Also, it allows mirrors or other devices (like rear bike rack) to extend no more than 10 inches into sidewalk. These outdated misapplied laws remain because they generate revenue for the city. SF parking enforcement (part of SFMTA, since 1999) knows that most SF homes have short driveways that can violate the law, so there's plenty of targets. I think that enforcement timing correlates with the city's (and SFMTA) funding needs. So, they probably targeted more neighborhoods at the same time, due to SF's projected deficit.
This has been a long term unfair distribution of justice. Richmond district has been heavily targeted while in Glen Park and other parts of the city doesn’t get the same treatment
I seen a lady walking her baby in a stroller instead of walking on the sidewalk she was in the street and there were no cars blocking her path ....... So how you supposed to deal with that
they been doing that for a while. i used to get tickets for blocking even 1” over my driveway. its stupid. its jsut another way for the city to get money from you
I care . I'm sick of seeing people like you , and people with prams , or bags of shopping having to enter traffic to get past my neighbors cars that are on the sidewalk .
Well duh there’s no parking in front of their homes and no space in those tiny garages, sf is really gonna make everyone leave with these dumb cash grabs
As someone without a car, it’s very annoying when the cars entirely block the sidewalk. Also when there’s no trees in the front and they double park the cars. (Especially outer sunset). Solution is probably to rebuild a large % of these homes, have more modern garages, and larger unit counts. The buildings in the sunset aren’t even that beautiful anyways tbh
Very good job, just let people complain each other. Like forcing so many restaurants already closed, very good job. There is reallly no better things to do rather than giving people tickets just partially taking up some space of the side walk. That will def lead to a better future
That resident address is responsible for the sidewalk, shrubbery and curb. And property is taxed to the st side of the curb...it's like your voters ballet, you invested in it, payed money to get it delivered but you don't own it ? 😂...city folk sense?
Is this just for the City’s deficit? I don’t see all of the vehicles received citations actually blocked the sidewalk. The SFMTA has already messed up the transportation in the Parkside district. Please stop bothering the Asian concentrated districts - Sunset, Parkside, Richmond, Chinatown, etc.
Man, if y'all think your streets are bad, y'all have no idea. Those streets have a lot space compared to some streets in Richmond and San Pablo. Where there is barely space for two cars to pass and pedestrian are always walking on the streets. Its worse when the garbage truck has to pass.
Next issue? The first time I saw a cop pull over someone was when I was learning how to drive near the dmv and we saw someone turn right on the red light without stopping first
@@DylanCheebut the government hasn't fixed the big issues first. The small issues can wait. This is a nothing burger but it is obvious the city needs money and revenue now that some businesses has closed down.
Someone is hating. If u been parking like that for years. Some1 reported them to the MTA. And most of the time it folk moving into SF gentrifying the city to their liking. While trying to kick the natives out from sf.
That's what the short curbside parking spaces are for.. They are small so that you can parallel park part-way on the street while also blocking your own driveway, giving resident a space to park without the need to park perpendicular blocking the sidewalk. Blocking the sidewalk is dangerous for seniors, children, people riding personal mobility devices, and anyone who needs to use the walkway, such as the use of delivery hand-trucks
New Paradigm. Sell your k 3:34 eys to the new owner at the auction after you get five tickets ( in one night) and are towed to impound. Or pay impound $3000.
SFMTA seeking lost revenue due to loss of parking ticket fines as downtown & Union Sq areas continues to see people depart. Meanwhile SF City Gov continues to mis-prioritize and not understand how to enact good governance.
The city needs the money to take care of the homeless and fund programs for illegals because the monies definitely aren’t going to the safety of the residents
This is ridiculous. I live in a 2 hour parking area unless you have a residential permit and people park here all day long. SFMTA picks and chooses who to fck with.
Leaving your car blocking the sidewalk isn't keeping to yourself . It might feel like that , but it absolutely affects other people . Have you tried squeezing in between a car and a building in a wheelchair ? Or with a baby stroller ,then having to back up and go around into traffic because someone was just working hard and keeping to themselves ?
What a drag it is to live in SF!!!!!! If you need more parking space, buy a house with more garage space! I really don’t understand people living in high density places wanting multiple cars if they are not able to facilitate parking and then have to take up street sidewalks for pedestrians. I always park my car in my 3-car garage. That is the whole point though, if I have no space or garage, I would not get a car and parking outside on the streets, unsafe and if everyone does it, it’s just eye sore congestion.
@@RaymondHng No, but they are parked on the street, never moved, and yet never ticketed. They usually smell of feces and urine as well making it a health hazard.
They are the ones buying cars too large for their garages and driveways, it's on them not anyone else. Also they could be saving so much money using public transit and just renting a car if they need to leave the city. how much do people spend on Charing, gas, upkeep, insurance let alone the sheer stress of driving it adds up very quickly.
SFPD can't crack down on cars being broken into or vandalized but they can issue citations like this because it's " Easier " and makes it look like they're doing their job. - In the 20+ years that I lived and worked in the City, my neighbors and I discovered that the fastest way to get SFPD to show up was to call from a local public phone and suggest that you are about to do their job for them. They'll be there in minutes. And, oh yes, the parking enforcement dept. still eat their young.
I am missing my right pelvis and use a walker. I live in excelsior and it’s not a big risk to go around a car for me. Although it could be a bigger deal for someone using a motorized walker. But then handicapped people should be catered too. Their disabilities have ruined enough building designs.
Side shows in the middle of the street and homeless tents and shopping carts on the sidewalk are fine. Parking in front of your garage is not OK. Another way for the city to get money. They cannot collect from the homeless so they are left alone. You pay income tax, property tax and sales tax. It is not enough so they ticket you.
