WE SAW ORCAS IN THE WILD ON SAN JUAN ISLAND!!!
San Juan Island in Washington State is home to Lime Kiln State Park, the world's first whale watching park. Though it is fairly likely you will have the opportunity to see orcas on a whale watching boat tour (May-September), the odds of you being at Lime Kiln State Park at the exact moment members of the J, K, or L resident pods swim by are not as great.
For your best shot at seeing orcas in the wild on San Juan Island, visit for a few days in the summer months.

What an awesome experience! I have seen Orca's near Vancouver island, but that was from a boat. Seeing them from the show would be something really special.

Great video!! We went kayaking there a couple of summers ago, and unfortunately didn't get to see any Orcas. Guess they were hiding that morning! I wish we had a bit of extra time to try and see them another way, but I guess we will just have to go back. Glad you guys were able to see them!

Not gonna lie... we visited Lime Kiln State Park 4 times during our visit on the island and it was the final time when they swam by. We had seen them the day before on a whale watching tour, but I really wanted to see them from land too. So yea, you'll definitely need to go back for another visit!

So jealous!!!! You got some amazing footage of them! We did a road trip recently and were considering San Juan Island but just didn't have the time. Regretting it a little now!!

We had our 400mm lens on our Nikon D7100. A little shaky, but it did the trick! (I tried on the tri-pod at first, but they would go under for a bit then come back up and not knowing where they would come up, it was easier to handhold for faster tracking! They can move fast!)

Well that is the case until the Kinder Morgan Pipeline is approved. I'm afraid that the pipeline will cause oil spills. I'm sure it's a really good place and would love to go.
