Today in one of the most visible signs that Northern California’s drought is over, San Luis is full. Since Nov. 8, the water level has risen 144 feet - roughly the equivalent of submerging a 10-story building.

If CA would just deepen the current reservoirs when they are low and further in crease capacity by removal of hills and other voluminous surface protrusions they could increase capacity w/o all the environmental studies. They know from peak years that they need more capacity and they know that they need to be able to xfr water from flooding areas to dry areas so they should have projects in progress all the time. If every new home was required to have a100+ gallon cistern that too would help as well as requiring new homes to have rainwater harvesting to be used for watering the landscape and onsite aquifer recharging. Furthermore, they could be enhancing the means of quickly recharging the aquifers. Any water shortages are more due to poor mgmt than they are to a lack of precipitation.

There are several projects in line right now, one of them is a reservoir 75% of the volume in the San Luis Reservoir in Northern CA. Two desal plants are moving forward. The Delta Conveyance Project is moving forward.

Published: Oct 21, 2023, 2:29 AM Plans to add 130,000 acre feet of water storage to the San Luis Reservoir 70 miles southeast of Manteca are moving forward. The Department of the Interior and the San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority on Friday announced plans to go ahead and start the project that will raise the earthen face by 10 feet of the B.F. Sisk Dam visible as you take Highway 152 west from Interstate 5 over the Pacheco Pass. It will create enough storage to supply more than 2 million people, a million acres of farmland, and 135,000 acres of Pacific Flyway Wetlands.

You all in CA need to change your water wasteful ways...agricultural use needs to be changed and lawns for homes are not needed. Allow drought resistant plants to grow.

Having lived here for over 30 years, I've seen conservation encouraged and mandated in many ways. Savings have been in both urban and agricultural areas. And while we have a reprieve from emergency measures this year, Newsom is not removing all efforts to continue conserving, capturing and transferring water.
