The stall idea is an excellent idea. Actually I don’t know how he could come home without him being stalled. My idea is converting part of the horse stalls though. That way he can see and be seen and visit with his herd through a window. I think he would like that best. 💕
As a retired nurse, the Nu-Gauze comes in different widths, the hospital will give you instructions & demonstrations. As the wound heals, it will take less gauze to pack it. Jami, we are going to let go and let God! We pray, in Jesus name, and leave it with Him. We can only control so much, just remember hospitals are clean, however hospital-acquired infections are high, but God has taken good care of him through this wonderful vet hospital and I am so grateful, I know you are too. Please don't stress yourself, just do your best and have faith in God to do the rest. Love you both!!!!
Yes, this is a lot to think about. But please don’t worry. God will be there for Voo doo. God will give you strength to deal with all these issues. I will keep on praying for Voo doo and Lester and Jamie. Blessings to all of you.
Jami you will do fine. They will teach you what you need to do. Even video it for your own reminder just in case. The vets wont let him go until they are sure you are competant enough to handle it and you are. You are just scared and thats understandable
Jamie, they probably won’t send him home til there is some innner healing . My husband had to have a wound vac (open wound with a vac device to drain and it had to be. Packed / changed daily and I had to learn to that with twice week visits from home care nurse. He was already healed a little bit when he came home. It was amazing to watch as each day the wound closed a little more til it closed completely. I am sure that Voo has already started that healing process. ❤🙏
Jamie, I took my husband to the ER May 27th because his leg was getting numb. He was rushed to emergency surgery with them telling me they were going to have to amputate from above his knee. They managed to save his leg. His toes were black and they had to slice his calve on his leg on both sides about 8 inches. They stitched up the inner side and left the outer wound open to monitor whether his calf muscle was going to survive the blood loss. He had a blood clot settle behind his knee. 3 weeks later- 2 skin grafts, a groin incision where they removed other clots that settled in his lower abdomin and placed a tube in his thigh to get blood flow to his lower leg, to donor sights that they took the skin they used on his skin grafts, and an open sore on the bottom of his heel from a pressure sore...he came home and i had to learn how to clean and dress all his wounds. You got this. VooDoo has one wound.❤
Great idea to use the barn by their paddock as his stall because you could use the round pen panels and make a smaller pen for him to still go out, but not rough house with the other horses. Easy to get him in and out for treatment too. ☺️
Jaime there is nothing wrong with stress preparing, it is what I call it ! lol you will do a wonderful job. You have a village of help too! ( dr. Crohcran & Bri) He needs his home and friends.
This is crazy time me, regardless of whatever political views yall might have. Lester and Jaine are the most genuine and humble individuals I've cane across on YT. Sending love from WA state.
Need to make voodoo a temporary place in the garage or shop-- until he heal 100% and can return to the other horse's 😊.... your stalls are nice but, he need to be close to Jamie and away from horses J/S
I can only imagine what the cost is going to be. I had to take my cat to an emergency hospital. She spent 4 days, no surgery, just tests and the bill was $7,000. They never could find anything wrong. Anyway, I had always had a houseful of cats, mostly, and dogs, too but now I have only 1 old cat and my house feels very empty. I miss the chaos, and the fun but I'm too old now to consider any more adoptions. Love your channel.
Yes same with my baby girl she experienced some time of seizures and couldn’t walk or see . 4 days later in emergency care and over 6,000 dollars later
It’s better to have 5/6 BIG dog than 5/6 little dogs. Big ones you can see coming, little ones not so much. …. Can feel your pain in the knees. Can’t have knee surgery because I have a 43 DS daughter to care for. So I can’t be off my feet for that long.(I’m 74 in Nov). Wish insurance would cover the Rooster Crown. That would be ideal for me. Don’t have the cash to pay that much…… So happy to see Voodoo is doing better. Jami will have lots of opticals to work around. …. ♥️🤗to you both. Have a bless week ahead!
They will show/tell you what you need to do. They would not send him home if they didn't think you could care for him!! Breathe!!! They will help you!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Lester and Jamie, I would definitely take pictures and get the vets advice. But I personally think if you can make a more sanitary stall in the shop or garage as I know horses that are as Lester calls them real horses regardless of a wound if outside is more likely to roll if outside and although they may still roll inside if it's more sterile it will limit some exposure to germs. You can still take him for walks to stretch, occupy his mind and have a nibble. You will be fine wash hands and tools sanitize use gloves. Your a excellent horse mum jamie
Jami I totally understand your nervousness. I'm glad you are thinking all of this through as you can't be too nonchalant about serious health things. Clean and sterile for a horse environment isn't the same at all as us being sent home from the hospital. We humans can keep an eye on their wound, communicate and keep our home clean whereas on a farm you can't no matter how much you try and a horse is going to roll if given the area of opportunity. I had to do the same unpack/cleani/pack daily to my Mom's leg from major Thrombosis surgery. It's true, country life is NOT a clean environment, a pond is not clean and lots of flies so take pics of your lands and area and show the vet team. You got this Jami!
The truck would be really pretty with mums, pumpkins. Indian corn and hay bales for the fall. Also you could put corn stock bundles near the mums etc You could put a clear coat on the trunk to protect it from rusting more than it is. It looks to be in really great shape and I like it rusted. You could also put the magnetic signs with from suits to boots on the side of the truck if you want
Lester, we live with one house dog, she’s a Doberman so not small. We also have 3 strictly indoor cats and yes they try to kill us on a daily basis. We’re in our 70s and not as steady on our feet as we used to be. We’re keeping them though because we love them. Looking forward to getting a Voo Doo shirt and seeing what y’all find out next week and praying for Voodoo to heal completely and for Jami and you to get through his nurses care. You’ll do fine. Much love to you both.❤❤
Re-watching Monday morning. I can understand Jami being distant, so much on her mind. I know we had to learn how to put in a feeding tube when my daughter was born. I am sure the two of you will do wonderful with Voodoo once he is home. I can not wait for the ultrasound on Storm. I have a hoodie, I hope to buy a Voodoo T-shirt, the shipping to Canada kills us
Jamie, show Lester a video of one of katies horses having an ultrasound. That will expain everything to him and prepare him for whats to come during storms ultrasound if he wants to know before.
Jami, I keep thinking of a big A-Frame wooden set of shelves with plants and flowers filling in all the shelves. It might look like a big florist truck. I don’t know if I am explaining it so that it sounds cute.
Thoughts and prayers for Voo, and Jami, you will do just fine. Listen to the vet about everything. You’ll get through this. Much love, respect and support from this old lady in Portland, Oregon. ✝️🛐🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🛐✝️
Lester an ultrasound for a horse is WAY different then human!! Hope Voo heals quickly!! The beautiful boy!! Lester your like me CLUMSY or ACCIDENT PRONE!! And I get what you mean about the dog thing but I still love them I’ll just clumsy!!
Lester that horse limement work GREAT USED IT FOR YEARS!!!! .... AND agree Lester couldn't not stand all them dogs in the house either and cats hair UGH.... would have put them outside or IN the shop!!! J/S... UGH hubby has big dogs they all have big kennels and we use 😊
You aloud the dogs on the couches in the first place, so who's to blame...😂😂😂😂😂 Look forward to an intresting week, with Voodoo coming home, and the ultrasound on Stormy. It's gonna be OK Jami, the vets won't let him home if he's not well enough.❤❤❤
Jamie, a few years ago my husband got an infection in a incision from a recent surgery. He was back in the hospital for a week and then came home. I had to pack the wound daily. It went down to his spine. I packed it with my gauze soak in betadine and water. I felt all the things you described. But it was easy to do. They assured me I would know instantly if the infection came back. If I can do it, you can.
Lester ignore the crazy lady, where what ever hat you want to, the red hat looks good. Jamie you're his date😊❤. You 2 are so funny you make my night enjoyable. You need to work together taking care of voodoo wound, it will take both as A tag team. Jamie you can do this, stop second guessing yourself, it will take time. Could you keep him in the shop space off the bathroom, it would be sterile and close, you could check on him. Bri could help if needed. Storm is waiting for Voodoo to come home. Good the ultrasound is soon. She loves the pond to cool down, and it may teke the pressure off her belly. Take care, get some rest along week ahead. God bless all. You got this guys. ,
My gauze packing strips sterile and you will also need sterile gloves and probably be best to have a stainless steel bowl to use only for Voo but also I would look under amazon pet medical supplies
It will all work out, I had to do that before but on a human, the Vets can hook you up with what you need. I know it’s scary knowing he’s going to be in the pasture. You’ll do great.🙏🏻🙏🏻
I agree with you Lester!!! I LOVE animals but sometimes they are anoying like children. Which parent can say that they were not annoyed by their vhildren once in a while.
I was watching last night and i went to sleep so finishing up today! Ultra sound is the best way to determine size. Length. Why they doing a rectal exam it can be done on her belly, especially with the ultrasound. Ive never heardof doing it that way
I do agree with you, but it's who I go to my sister's house. Her dog jumps on me and knocks me down by jumping on me. The dog is a Corgi and she is stout and runs and jumps at me. Lol
The vet will tell you exactly what you need, and will probably give you enough supplies to get you through the first couple of days I'm sure. They also know what your home is, and if they don't feel that he's stable enough, or that it's safe enough, they wouldn't send him home. Also, remember, vet schools are, or should be, teaching their students how to be a vet in all areas, all of those students aren't going out into the world to be a "fancy vet". Also, the cleaning of the wound and the packing needs to be sterile, but his stall and the facility is not a sterile environment, it's a clean environment. No one is able to have a sterile environment at home, not even people. And yes, I am an oncology nurse so I have hands on experience in the medical field. It will be ok, you will be fine, you have plenty of people around you that will help you, you've got this! Deep breath, it will all work out!
I say that my cat is trying to off me every day! It was bad enough with one bad knee, now that my good knee is bad too, I'm trying to not trip over him every day. And I'm just a few yrs older than you Lester, so I get it! Loved watching like always!;💜💜
Another great live. Love you both so much. I am going to again say that your plates are so full with everything. Wow I am not sure how you both keep going. Jami I totally understand your apprehensions about having Voodoo home and taking care of him. It IS a huge responsibility but you are amazing and I know you can do it. I am going to continue to pray for total healing for Voodoo and you. 🥰
