Sand Mandala Lecture | Blanton Museum of Art 

On Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, the Blanton invited monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery to talk about the meaning of a sand mandala in a lecture titled "Symbolism of the Sand Mandala."
Sand mandalas are unique to Tibetan Buddhism and are created for the healing of living beings and the environment. Jan. 9 - 13 the visiting monks created a sand mandala in the Blanton's Rapoport Atrium as a special public program affiliated with the museum's "Into the Sacred City" exhibition of rare Tibetan works from the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive collection.
