I don't even speak his language and I can tell he's a good teacher, I understood from his body how to complete each move. Love seeing this style, only just discovered it and really like what I see, will consider training in this just from loving what I see. Hope I get on well with it :)

Many styles use the same techniques because they are effective. It's that simple.

lol 1:14 never works for me during sparring and I think I see why now. I always try to sweep the shin instead of the back of the leg.

Great demonstrations. I'm currently being taught to, when catching a kick, bring the forearm of my free arm across my body to make contact with my opponents shin/instep. This is to demonstrate that the kick was properly blocked. Once I've done this I'm free to do whatever I want with the leg. Apparently this is due to recent rule changes. It does make it tricky to counter with a straight punch immediately though.

@StirpeRomana you're right, similar does not mean "the same" and having done both I concur they are in fact similar. main difference is in close range fighting, in sanda you'd be looking for the throw as opposed to mt using the clinch elbows and knees

how are you suppose to catch the leg then if you reckon its not aloud to come in contact with you. they only get the points if the kick lands really hard and affects the person your fighting or makes a big slap sound and looks like it hurt. thats why they use take downs all the time cause thats where the points are!!!

Is it pure coincidence that muay thai uses these takedowns as well, or is muay thai simply sanda which became muay thai after the tai-kadai people, originally from china immigrated to Siam?

@bryanfong1023
@bryanfong1023 5 лет назад
En muay thai no hay agarres y las patadas no son rectas. Ademas el muay thai se usa rodillas y codos en el clinch, mientras el sanda prefiere derumbar en el clinch.

this is not self defence, this is a martial sport. yes they can break the leg but u do not want to break legs in competitions....
@Krypteian

Sanda is much younger and has been immensely influenced by Muay Thai. The Chinese had a history of being defeated by the Thai's which they believed were inferior to their Kung Fu. As prideful as they were, they imitated a large portion of MT as well as incorporated Judo, Shootfighting and other arts into Sanda/Sanshou. It is complete ludicrous to believe that it was based on "ancient Chinese Kung Fu" like they try to assert. It's nothing but Chinese nationalism.
@evertondossantos5202
@evertondossantos5202 6 лет назад
Five years later, you are wrong. Modern Wushu is a compilation of usefull techniques of traditional wushu, Jigoro kano did the same with the old japanese koryu, using BTW western wrestling techniques. Its a diferent view and principles as a ring sport too for Muay Thai and Sanda - I mean the real MT professional from Thailand. You can consider Sanshou/Sanda as a "eficient or realistic kung fu" as MA .Otherwise, did you know Muay Thai apperars in Thailand after the came of monks of China?
@bryanfong1023
@bryanfong1023 5 лет назад
About sanda being ludicrous, we could say the same about muay thai being an ancient thai martial. Muay thai was first developed in 1800s and took multiple concepts of western boxing and mixed it with some concept of muay baron to create to what we know as muay thai. Without a doubt muay thai has influenced sanda, specially in the punching department, but you must be smoking something really crappy if you think that chinese were doing shoot fighting and judo during the cultural revolution. Most of sanda throws and kicks can be found in shuai jiao and northen kung fu styles in China. Thats why sanda focuses un multiple types of linear kicks while muay thai kicks come from the sides. Another difference is that muay thai focuses on fighting on the clinch while sanda prefers to go for take downs. Also as muay thai has influenced sanda, sanda has influenced muay thai due to the competition between both. Thanks to sanda muay thai has incorporated takedown defense and sweeps were started to be use. So instead of being a butthurt about sanda, you should be glad since the competition makes muay thai become a better martial art. I am chinese but i consider muay thai fighters better just due to the sheer passion and love their thai people feel about the sport. In china, most sanda fighters see it as a job and people dont really that passionate for sanda as thai feel for muay thai.
