Korean movies like i saw the devil or oldboy are 1000 times darker and violent than animal but you won't see the leads portrayed heroic for their bad actions or having happy ending that's the difference. To those who say that "Film ko film ki tarah dekho" and "It's just pure entertainment". I agree, we have had much more violent and misogynistic films in the recent years like Gangs of Wasseypur, KGF, Pushpa and Jailer. Nobody created this big of a controversy as compared to when Animal was released. Because the team was not busy glorifying the wrongdoings of their main characters and making them as ideal persons. They just showed a film as a film. Also on one hand whenever films like PK and Shamshera release then the junta shouts from the rooftop saying "Oh our cinema should promote Indian culture!" and "Oh because of Bollywood movies, gullible young people hate our culture" but when films like Animal release then people are okay with it?

Problem is not showing grey characters, like in you , joe is a psychopath, so the justification given is portrayed by his point of view and him defending his actions, but at the same time series show that he is unfit for society and a narcissist. Watching a movie like a MOVIE, enjoying it and then moving on should be the thing. But when such directors pass out such statements in the interviews, obviously not with the intention of influencing people, but he is somewhere or the other trying to justify the wrongdoings done by his film’s characters which infact end up influencing young minds because they view these same characters as their “hero” or idol. So in such cases the directors as well as story writers should be held responsible.

I would want to know if Vanga follows the same behavior with his wife and kids coz if it is then god save his family. This thinking of him is toxic. The makers of Animal were very clever when it came to promoting the film, they generated controversy from the very first scene of the teaser. Animal generated hype through its subtle misogynistic baits. Even though I liked the film still I believe the reason behind the film's huge collection is not its unconventional storytelling (not completely) but majorly it's because of the online discourse about how the film is glorifying misogyny which is just what the makers wanted. Sandeep Reddy is a brilliant director when it comes to understanding the film business.
@@daveraj2854 no the father son relationship is very superficially touched in the film, the father son arc is not well explored. It worked just because of gruesome violence, misogyny as I mentioned and Vanga himself because of his previous statements in various interviews. If you still think the major reason behind animals success is "father-son relationship" or good screenplay which it is but just barely" then you really have no idea about the power of negative word of mouth. Indian audience specifically the male audience has always been drawn towards violent hyper masculine alpha male lead characters, and in animal they just got what they wanted but on steroids ( so coming back to my previous point that Vanga really understands what Indian audience wants to see and that's what makes him stand out and a great business mind). I'm also not denying the fact that Vangas' way of presenting the story was very unconventional, it's nothing new, it's not that i haven't seen anything like this before but telling the same story in a different light, making the screenplay of a mass film non-linear, adding great action set pieces, great soundtrack and background score these are all there of course but it's just not the whole reason behind it's success because I have seen films way better than this which had every single one of these qualities - unique storytelling, great action set pieces , brilliant visuals, great acting , great soundtrack you name it, everything but it still flopped. A very recent example is An Action Hero starring Ayushman Khurrana , for me it's one of the best action films ever made in bollywood but hardly anybody noticed , because it didn't had that one thing that animal have negative publicity, problematic way of portraying female characters because that's what creates instant online discourse, in comparison to writing an actual good screenplay which doesn't really need to forcefully add problematic dialogues or themes just too generate that negative hype among masses.
We do read dark romance, and to be honest this movie is nothing compares to what that genre holds. So the people saying "it's a fiction so take it as a fiction". We know it already but the problem here is we never justify those acts in real life but these young minds are doing it. And even in books we don't support abuse and cheating in both genders.

With all this Animal movie discussion, the only things comes to mind is Mulshi Pattern(Marathi film). The main lead of this movie turns from a normal person to a gangster. Every character in this movie is morally grey including the child who is fond of gangster. This movie did not once glorified the villain as a hero. Every gangster referred as gangster but not as boss. Even when the main leads dies, his father does not show any pain as he already accepted his son's fate.

I remember when 'DELHI BELLY' was released in 2011, there was a lot of discussion over its A-rated content, and in every interview, its producer Amir Khan requested people that this movie is not for everyone to watch and may not be suitable for everyone's liking. The problem with the 'ANIMAL' movie is not the story or its dark characters but its director Sandeep Vanga Reddy's thought process...he shouldn't have gone around justifying the character's toxic masculinity. Instead, it should be left to the audience to decide what they want to make out of the story, the characters and their actions.
Sandeep Reddy vanga himself a Psychopath and he makes films based on his vision,,u can't expect morality or moral talks with him. In the film companion interview,he was unbelievable and he said these things and he abused the film critics and everyone is praising him like he did some great things by abusing them with words. Vanga's thinking, attitude in interviews, his (alfa) male ego and his definition of "love" is so freaking problematic..it does sound like he is Kabir /Ranvijay in real life..in India movies (specially of that humangaus scale) does impact the audience so as a creator he should be mindful of that and not just look for the next shock value/click bait moments in his films

Films have been a big influence in our lives. Be it idolising someone or copying someone. For good or bad the influence has been prominent. Till a few decades ago films patronised stalking the female and forcing them to accept a love proposal. Which automatically got copied in real life scenarios, where the girl was burnt, attacked because she said no. So saying that it's just a film is not a justification. Specially when glorified... It's a rarity thank men would accept being slapped by a woman. For them it ego damage, which they "do not" tolerate. To say that couples should have the freedom to express their love/emotions through violence no matter how mild, is toxic and irresponsible. Movies like these add weightage to the kind of toxicity already being promoted by certain chauvinists...
Just bycott these artists whether they are Actors, directors or writers then only they will realise about right and wrong. These people think that they run the society and live in their own world
I m seriously happy u got this point out ...cuz the day from when I have seen Animal I am just saying exactly the same thing ....HE IS MAD in a way man ...ek to movie was sooo soo much I left after interval...Ranbir is my fav and I always believed whatever he would play will be the best and I would never hate him ...BUT ..that day O god from the very starting...those unwanted lines in the film ,his behaviour being a pyscho kind of character...till interval I was like I hate this man .... knowing its a character but I still didn't wanted to see his face😂😂😂....and I got out with a very pathetic mood ...and after sometime came to knew that the movie had lot more after the interval which was also more garbage I would say....This Wanga is just ....I dont have words for his mentality...just unacceptable...film h film h bolke kuch bhi bna do ....and the idiot boys who are really getting inspired with this should really think once about it.
Thanks for talking about this Spill bee. If a particular person thinks that without using cuss words, physically abusing the partner their is no emotion then it's his personal problematic thinking. But it feels strange that the thinking of such a huge number of people including females is so problematic that they are happy and promoting such people. They absolutely feel no problem by the glorification of a brainless killing spree for no solid cause by using songs like arjan velle or glorification of the problematic relationship between the main characters by playing romantic songs like mai jogi aur ganga hai ye ishq re..as if its such a pure and beautiful love story. People are still justifying by saying that no the bad consequences were also shown and nothing was justified. But then why everyone perceived the characters of ranvijay or kabir as alpha males and not psychopaths? The main problem with this man is he feels the characters he creates are ideal and are just normal. Even try to romanticize their problematic behaviour. If people are supporting such characters then they are just justifying his thoughts and encouraging him to create more such gross characters.
Because Shahid is nowhere like Kabir Singh in his real life,he doesn't drink or smoke in real life . But Ranbir is a drug addict,chain smoker , alcoholic and had been a Casanova and has cheated in the past. But Shahid always said that Kabir Singh wasn't a hero, he's the example to establish that why people should not be like Kabir Singh.
We can't stop them But the only reason they making such content because people like such voilance in films so they are wrong but we choose the film to watch so We are also problematic
What really is more problematic than Sandeep is the chapris that are still watching Animal and boycotting good movies like Dunki. People will stop making good movies really. Although Sandeep showed that a negligent father could be responsible for a horrible child, which was absolutely right and I agree with it. But, people will absorb the movie in a completely different way. This movie promoted toxicity in general.
I would like to disagree. You don't like a movie don't watch it. There's something called freedom of expression which btw you just used right now bt calling everyone who liked the movie "chapri." The same freedom of expression gives right to the director to make whatever he wants and the general public to watch whatever they want. How people want to absorb the movie it's their choice. Did they promote toxicity in the movie? Maybe yes but again it's their choice. Mature people will always understand that it's just for the sake of entertainment. Btw I didn't watch animal yet but I did see Dunki in theatre. I loved Dunki but we shouldn't question why was this movie made and all. Again it's their choice.

Sandeep and Ranbir both have daughters, they will understand when those will be in a relationship. And also he made ranbir an animal so he behaves in a certain way but the way he portrays his female leads is way problematic. Like girls will take that much abuse and still be with you.

The hypocrisy and irony is that deepika just got heavy critisism in pathaan for wearing a particular coloured cloth,even the politicians got involved but no one criticed on camera for this whole damn film "animal" which is normalising violence, discrimination,etc etc
