Thank you all so much for your lovely comments! I love Alexander and Charlotte so much -- they feel like a distillation of all of the Jane Austen couples I've loved since I started reading her books as a young girl, and they've grabbed hold of me and won't let go. Having you all here in this Heybourne community means everything to me -- how engaged you all are, your brilliant and funny comments, your insightful analysis, and the way we share this long wait for S3. I have worried that using the same clips over and over will get monotonous, but since you're telling me it's not, I'll keep making them. Thank you again for taking the time to comment. It means so much. ❤

Yes please continue making your beautiful videos. I’m always so impressed by your song selection and “mad editing skills” as @Patti Godfrey said. Thank you for taking the time - I really appreciate it so much. I love discussing - commenting - watching and rewatching and rewatching 😂 everything #Heybourne. 🥰

I totally agree! There is something about Heybourne that has enraptured me. I can’t fully explain the fascination, but I’ve found S2 to hold deep meaning and a compelling story. Thank you for highlighting the moments and adding apropos music that help to convey the feelings on display. I’m eager for the rest of the story to unfold!

Please please keep making these! I do have a question, though. Where did you find the clip that looks like it could be from S3--where AC approaches CH on the cliffs and her hair is different. He's wearing a grey long coat and she's carrying a book. I don't remember seeing that or her hair that way (more straightened) in S2.

Those scenes are from one of the "making of" featurettes that the show released. I believe I have it on here if you look under the Extras playlist, but you can also find it on PBS.org. Those scenes are VERY fast, and I've stretched them out for my videos in slo-mo 🥰

Thanks Susan for your reply! I’ll look on pbs for the clip. I wonder if you’d consider a sing video that goes in a slightly different direction? I’ve been listening to The Chicks’ Gaslighter album and thought of this song as pretty apt for Charlotte’s situation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TGxPeJto3U4.html If you’re open to it, it might be a fun “for now” sort of way to look at her situation. Thanks again!

2:13 just kills me. The labored swallow and the lips pursed in resignation...trying to hold in his emotions. 😭 I find new favorite parts every time I watch. Like when he walks purposefully out of Lennox’s tent (so manly) to “come what may” and then it fades to him riding along the beach. So powerful.

Love how your sensitive music selections and mad editing skills bring out the most incredible moments from these actors, giving their hearts the words and voice that we are desperate to hear them say: A's Thank you/I love you was beautifully meshed, and was a perfect example of what he actually says vs what he really wants to say. Those dance scene clips,💕🥰💞: "Suddenly"-fingers touch, "world is such a perfect place"- side dip, "perfect grace"/"revolve around you"- ideally matched movements, "suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste"-A's eyes pouring his soul into C's upturned face with jaw-dropping comprehension! ... and there are so many other telling moments synced so beautifully! Thank you for freeing their hearts, and feeding ours for another day!

I wrote this over on @Misstweet’s page and wanted your thoughts …”Isn’t it stunning how #Heybourne has captured JA fans’ imaginations? After watching seasons 1 and 2 over again I realized some things: 1) Sidney could be really mean; 2) Captain Fraser is certainly a keeper; 3) any story line that ends with Alexander and Charlotte blissfully happy together makes me giddy; and, 4) Alexander Colbourne is the Finest of the Austen men. Period (at least, in my book☺️) More handsome (and trustworthy!) than Willoughby; has more integrity than Edward Ferrers; more dependable than Col. Brandon; has more wit than Mr. Knightley; has deeper feelings than Mr. Darcy (apologies to Colin Firth and Matthew MacFayden (although, in my opinion, that Pride & Prejudice doesn’t really count); more lovable than Frank Churchill; more genuine than Mr. Tilney. With Justin Young et al.‘s written character and Ben Lloyd-Hughes acting, Alexander Heybourne is the epitome of the JA man. And Charlotte Heywood becomes the woman we all wish we could be, being loved by such a man as he. I still think we should be gifted with #Sanditon3forChristmas!”

@Nancy Lynn Morgan Salute! I too have seen your comment at another time in another place-and I could not agree with you more. In the final analysis, Sidney Parker was deeply flawed and therefore unworthy of this Jane Austen heroine. Given what we know (or think we know) about the real-life circumstances that occurred after S1 ended and thus led to the creation of Ben Lloyd-Hughes' character, it would seem that fate intervened at just the right moment in time. Having watched S1 and S2 more than once, as well as quite a few YT Sanditon videos, it is difficult to believe it is a mere coincidence that Alexander Colbourne is indeed "the Finest of the Austen men." Colbourne appears to be an amalgamation of all that is fine in the author's male protagonists. If so, that is indeed quite a tribute to Jane Austen's powers of observation and her ability to craft the right male character for each of her heroines. Needless to say, Charlotte Heywood and her circumstances repeatedly put Colbourne through his paces and to the test.
@centava99
@centava99 2 года назад
I agree with most of this except for Col. Brandon. I still think he's the finest of JA men, but Alexander Colbourne runs a very close second. I say this because Brandon was constant in his friendship and then love, not flip flopping the way Colbourne has, despite both having such past demons. And Alan Rickman was the ultimate Brandon. But everything else you said is spot on!
@nancylynnmorgan4964
@nancylynnmorgan4964 2 года назад
@@centava99 Of course. You are right. Col. Brandon was true in his affection. Alan Rickman played him with such a delicate touch. I think Colbourne has demons that stem from abuse and neglect, as well as hurt from failed love. Brandon did not have to fight himself-his sense of not being worthy of love, at all-as Colbourne does. In that sense, Brandon feels unworthy of Marianne’s love, but it doesn’t feel like he feels unworthy of anyone’s affection. I should have made that distinction between them more clear.
@Jean-wk7on
@Jean-wk7on 2 года назад
@@centava99 Hello! Interesting comment. Thank you for explaining your point of view. That helped a lot. On a few other Sanditon tribute videos, one of my comments has been that the scriptwriting for Sanditon is actually quite complex and sophisticated-so, it's easy to become confused. That happens to be particularly true when it comes to the three male protagonists in S2, especially Alexander Colbourne. In an interview that first aired on YT in April, Justin Young-the lead scriptwriter for S2-talked about their goal of creating three strong male protagonists (Alexander Colbourne, Colonel Francis Lennox, and Charles Lockhart) who are complex as well as interesting-to counterbalance Charlotte Heywood and Georgiana Lambe-and that is precisely what the scriptwriters did. Because I could see when reading comments on YT that many viewers were getting confused and not really able to follow the script and put all of the pieces together in S2, I posted a guide for S2 (for Alexander and Charlotte's relationship) on several videos. To help you out, I will post it here also. In reality, Colbourne is "not flip flopping" at all. He is actually quite consistent, from the moment when we first meet him until the bitter end-when he turns around, hesitates momentarily at the Parker home front door, and then walks out. What we are seeing is a mature and compassionate man who sense of integrity is so strong and who is so aware of who he is as a person that he is not willing to compromise his integrity or his unconfessed love for Charlotte-even if that means losing her. Here is the complete guide: My guess is that by now most of us know that Alexander Colbourne is the perfect man for Charlotte Heywood. Alexander and Charlotte compliment and complete each other beautifully. Fate has a strange and surprising way of guiding us along on our journey. Who would have guessed that S1 would have ended as it did or that the scriptwriters and casting crew would have been forced to take an entirely different and unfamiliar path-which, in my opinion, has led to a far more interesting and rewarding destination? As fate would have it, Charlotte's romance with Sidney Parker and his betrayal in order to marry the wealthy Eliza Campion (who had done the same thing to him a few years earlier) better prepared Charlotte for the slightly older, more experienced, and wiser Alexander Colbourne who would be attracted to and fall in love with her. Not long into S2, it becomes clear that both Charlotte and Colbourne are surprised and thrown off kilter by their romantic attraction to each other. She and he had both sworn off love and marriage after falling in love and then being betrayed. At the end of S2, we're left wondering why exactly did Colbourne force Charlotte to leave her governess position, and why did Charlotte not allow Colbourne to finish whatever he started to say to her in the Parker home. All we do know is that she and he made a choice, and now they are both unhappy with their lives. We know what Charlotte wants, but what does Colbourne want? He's confusing us. Ah! The look on Alexander Colbourne's face when he sees Charlotte again in S3 makes it quite clear that Colbourne now knows exactly what he wants. The looming questions for S3 are-Can he still get her? If so, how? So, I am definitely looking forward to Season 3. For anyone who hasn't been able to put enough of the pieces together and is still trying to make sense of Charlotte and Colbourne's love story, here is a guide. Like Charlotte Heywood, Alexander Colbourne is a compelling character. Obviously, Colbourne is not pining for his dead wife who married him for his money, and then continued her love affair with Lennox after she married Colbourne. Marrying solely for financial security was the norm, even during the time in which Jane Austen lived. Apparently, Lucy and Lennox were genuinely in love with each other-but, unlike Colbourne, Lennox was not a wealthy man. So, she chose to marry Alexander Colbourne-which explains why Lennox told Charlotte that Colbourne stole Lucy from him. Nevertheless, Colbourne does deeply regret having spoken so harshly to Lucy when he discovered her infidelity and that she was pregnant with Lennox's child. He believes that what he said to Lucy was so damaging that it destroyed her will to live. So, he feels responsible for her death and for Leo not having a mother. Colbourne's compassionate heart and strong conscience have not allowed him to forgive himself-even after all these years. In S2 we see how compassionately Colbourne treats his horse and his dog, and how he tries to shield his daughter and his niece-and now Charlotte-from himself. Colbourne is apparently afraid of ever destroying anyone again, so he puts up barriers between himself and anyone that he loves. Charlotte helped Colbourne to begin tearing down those barriers that separate him from the people that he loves. But now Charlotte is one of those people-so we see Colbourne as he struggles with his internal conflict between his desire to have Charlotte and his desire to protect her from himself. Interestingly, it is not until Colonel Lennox tells Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him that he realizes that she is indeed in love with him, and therefore she needs to be protected from him. Because Charlotte is so unique-she is neither meek nor submissive-Colbourne hadn't noticed the outward signs of her feelings about him. During the time that Jane Austen wrote, men who did not intend to marry often wore a signet ring (engraved with their initials) on the pinky of their left hand-just as Alexander Colbourne does. Colbourne often twists the signet ring that he wears on his left hand and appears to be thinking. My guess is that is yet another reason why he chose to dismiss Charlotte. Colbourne knows that he is in love with Charlotte, and it is obvious that he desires her. The way he kisses her makes that quite clear. After Colonel Lennox told Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him, Colbourne realized that, as her employer she might submit to his desires because he is in a position of authority over her. Now that he knows how he feels about her and how she feels about him, allowing Charlotte to remain his subordinate would have been highly unethical. Since Colbourne-unlike Lennox-is a man of integrity, he could not bring himself to allow her to continue to be his subordinate, and therefore subject to his will. That's why he forces Charlotte to leave, even after she acknowledges that she was a willing participant during their romantic moments. Because Alexander Colbourne is a man with a strong sense of integrity, he knew he had to let Charlotte go-even though he clearly wants her. Colbourne went to the Parkers' home to ask her to return because Augusta begged him to do so, not because he believed that was the right thing to do. (Colbourne told Augusta that she doesn't understand-which, of course, is true. Augusta doesn't know that her uncle is in love with Charlotte and that Charlotte is in love with him.) Colbourne did not object to what Charlotte said because he knew that she made the right decision, even though she made that decision because she believes that she means nothing to him. Of course, that is not true. This is a man who clearly is deeply in love with Charlotte. When Colbourne goes to see Charlotte with the intention of asking her to return, Charlotte also makes the right decision. Sadly, at the end of Season 2, we were left with two people who are deeply in love with each other-and absolutely miserable because of the choice they had to make.

First, I love your video and this song. Absolutely perfect!!! Now, I´m shock in love in Season 2, in all the new characters. Especially Lockhart and Alexander, of course! I watched Season 1 a few years ago and it was nice. When Theo James left I thought I would never watch the show because there was no replacement. 2 weeks ago I watched Season 2 anyway and was hooked. I never thought they would be so good. Now I can't wait to see the episodes in germany. Some people say Heybourne has no chemistry. But I say it's just the opposite. #Heybourne 4 Ever!!! So, I hope with many spoilers or Videos with Heybourne of Season 3! Please!!! 🙂

Such a beautiful story. I find myself screaming "kiss her" at the tv. I love the scenery shots, the buildings, interior grandure, clothing, manners. All of it. Almost like a mini Dowton Abby. Thanks so much for a great series. Whars next? I can't wait.....

First comment! 😂 Love it! Love it! You had me at “Never knew I could feel like this” with Xander at the desk. Also loved “It all revolves around you” and “sing out this song and I’ll be there by your side!” So so good! And did I notice an entire sequence of his little delayed looks to Charlotte at the ends of sentences?? 😍

Susan thank you for your brilliant video compilations. This particular video edited to the beautiful song from Moulin Rouge lifts me up and makes me feel so hopeful for Alexander and Charlotte more than any other I have seen. Keep making these beautiful videos as they are what is helping me survive the long wait until season 3!

I'm surprised Charlotte didn't ask Colbourne the question: " Why did you kiss me?" after the dismissal. That would have been the writers' jobs. Then the plot changes, of course. Back in those days, there was no plain speaking as I call it. That's why there's a Season 3. The path of true love never runs smoothly. Always some bumps ahead.

Hello Susan! I’ve just finished reading your “fan fiction” continuation of the story ! You have done an AMAZING job! Ch 11 & I’m thrilled that not only Charlotte & Alexander have finally come together by working through so much pain & misunderstanding ….. but Charlotte’s dearest friend Georgiana is now welcomed to the Colbourne family. Totally plausible but also beautifully written. You will certainly get us all through the long hiatus till S3, but may I add that your version is so satisfying that I don’t really care to much if it’s not screened ! ( LOL) Thank you Susan & look forward to reading more……. Kx

Had a crazy thought recently. Heyrick Park... Heywood. Are the writers trying to tell us something? Or is it just coincidence?

Oh. And yes, courtship was an art in those days. People actually got to know each other over a period of time. The touching of hands was exciting, almost erotic. The anticipation of just seeing the other person was a true thrill. We have lost all of that. Too bad

P. S. I would like to see the situation after The Kiss (against which all others will be heretofore measured). How in the world does one just put one in a coach to be driven home after that?

I would love to see that scene too! That is the one I have thought the most about and wished we could see. Go to the Fan Fiction community post and check out Susan’s wonderful story - she writes a beautiful scene for what happens after THE kiss and continues their story. You won’t be disappointed. 🥰

@@susanfirth9883 I just read it. Oh, Susan, you should be in the writers’ room!! Has JY seen this? Such a wonderful story! I will be imagining this until we see Sanditon 3! I loved how you corrected the engagement of Charlotte and Ralph. How could it be any better?? Brava, Susan! (Is ‘Lady Susan’ too grand a moniker for you? I think not!) This is so lovingly done; I really have no words. I’ve been here in the bath water-once hot;now cold-reading through tears of happiness. It has brought me so much satisfaction.
